Horizon 2020 represents a major source of EU funding & oppurtunities
for Irish researchers (in Industry, Higher Education Institutions (HEIs) &
Non Governmental Organisations (NGOs). One of the main areas of
funding within Horizon 2020 is the "Societal Challenges" programme.
This EPA Small Scale Study project (2015-W-SSS 2.1) is focused on
opportunies for Irish researchers for participation in the climate action,
environment, resource efficiency & raw materials Societal Challenge 5
(SC5). Specifically the project is concerned with the topic "CIRC-02-
2016-2017: Water in the Context of the Circular Economy"which will be
issued in 2016/2017.
This study maps research excellence & capacity in Ireland & the EU
in the area of "Efficient Nutrient Recovery from Water". The outputs
of the study will support researchers who wish to participate in consortia
applying for funding under this topic in the forthcoming 2016/2017 calls.
Total of 87 projects identified across
the 12 databases searched.
Total of 7 Horizon 2020 projects identified.
Total of 27 FP7 projects identified.
A hub of activity for both Research Institutes
& Company involvement exists in 3 Countries
in particular: Germany, Belgium, & the Netherlands.
Taken together, the Research Institutes in each of
Germany, Belgium & the Netherlands participated in
14 or more projects per Country (see map).
In these Countries, companies are also involved in full
scale & pilot / demonstration Phosphorus recovery
plants.
The work programme 2016-2017 outline that proposals
should address one of the following issues:
A ) Demonstrating the potential of efficient nutrient
recovery from water (2016).
B ) Towards the next generation of water systems
& services large scale demonstration projects (2017).
