Editor's Notes CTX has more absences overall Everyone has a hard time interpreting this at first, so we need to script it very clearly. I think it goes something like this, but play with different takes: We know that absences jump in HS, and we know that many 9th graders – more so than in any other grade – are retained because they don’t pass enough credits to go on with their class. So we wanted to look at the correlation between absences and whether students were retained or not. What we found was that of 9th graders in 2006-07, those who were retained in 9th grade for the following year had FOUR TIMES as many absences as those 9th graders who went on to 10th grade on schedule!
