This presentation provides an update on the latest features and tools offered by IdeaStream, Dub's market-leading online community platform for insight, innovation and co-creation

look and feel. This document explains what
they are and the benefits they bring.
Please note that these upgrades are only
available on projects/communities ordered
from March 18th, 2013 onwards.

3. Mobile
What: IdeaStream™ Mobile
Benefit: Rich media data capture for ‘in-the-moment’ experiences
Description:
• Mobile web app accessed on iPhone and Android devices
• Removal of recall bias by being where the action is taking place, when it’s taking place
• Greater convenience for consumers
• Includes blogs, discussions and all community engagements, not just picture and video sharing

4. Sequencing
What: Activity sequencing
Benefit: The ability to control the sequence in which participants engage with grouped tasks / activities.
Description:
• Moderators can create a sequence of activities, leading participants through an ordered journey
• An activity in a sequence can trigger one or more subsequent activities
• Members can leave and return to a sequence at any stage
• Signposting of sequenced tasks helps to manage members expectations.
• Once a sequence of activities is created, researchers can edit and reorder the sequence
• Allocation of sequenced activities can be ‘reductive’ - meaning you can start out with an activity allocated to multiple
segments and finish with an activity allocated to a single segment

5. Members’ area
What: The new members tab makes it easier to get to know other members of the community and enhances interaction
and connectivity
Benefit: Easier to engage other members of the community
Description:
•Links to participants’ full profile
•Ability to ‘follow’ member directly front the Member’s page
•Only available in ‘social’ communities. If you only run private-only activities, members will not see the members section!

6. Profile page/My Page
What: Each member now has their own profile page.
Benefit: More personalised space that participants can own and post on
Description:
• Enhances the social nature of IdeaStream communities
• Answers to extended and basic profile questions can be displayed on the profile page (optional on a per-question
level)
• Displays a members ‘updates’ and allows other members to comment on their updates.
• If a member is viewing their own profile (via the ‘My Page’ tab) they are able to post updates
• Lists all key activities for each member - including when they joined, what they have posted to and who they are
following, ensuring even members that aren’t that active have some activity!
• Larger profile picture helps bring each member to life
• Ability to follow members from their profile page
• List people each member is following, and who is following each member

7. Community Feed (optional)
What: Like Facebook’s news feed, IdeaStream’s new Community Feed lets participants start their own discussions and have
a part in shaping the community.
Benefit: Increases levels of interaction and community engagement
Description:
• Located on the community homepage for maximum visibility and ease-of-use
• Participants can comment on posts that appear in the Community Feed
• Posts appearing in the Community Feed include pictures, videos, files, MP3s and webcam recordings
• Participants are notified when another participant comments on their post from within the Community Feed
• Participants can filter the Community Feed to see content from people they follows as well as the entire community
• Participants can add new content via the homepage of their own personal page - My Page
• Switch on/off - The Community Feed can be switched on or off by the Administrators of the community

8. Log-in page widget
What: A new widget allows you to place text on the logon page
Benefit: Better management of the participants’ first experience
Description:
• Easy to set up
• Allows you to introduce your community right from the log-in page
• Scrolling allows you to add as much copy as you want, without affecting the design and layout of the login
page

9. Forums (optional)
What: Forums let researchers create one or more topics within which participants can start their own
discussions
Benefit: Greater sense of ownership by participants. Greater levels of engagement and interaction
Description:
•A great tool if you want to give members ‘ownership’, while ensuring conversations stay focused on your
project objectives
•Dedicated tab
•Default (but editable) introduction copy to help members understand the purpose of the forums feature
•Forum topics can be made available to specific segments (just like activities)
•Members can bring forum discussions, forum posts and forum comments to life with pictures, videos, files,
MP3s and web-cam recordings
•Filter tools allow members to view latest, most commented, most recently commented and most liked
discussions
•Switch on/off - Forums can be switched on or off by the Administrators of the community.

10. Following
What: Participants can now keep-track of other participants with the new ‘following’ feature. This promoting a
more intimate and personal experience.
Benefit: Heightened community interaction and stronger inter-community relationships
Description:
•Follow other participants using a pop-up feature, via the Members tab or when viewing a member’s profile page
•Lists of those your ‘following’ and that are ‘following you’ visible on profile pages

11. Notifications
What: In-platform Notifications system upgrades
Benefit: Improved notification management solution keeps participants in the community for longer
Description:
•Notifications is now located in a top navigation bar on all pages
•An animated ‘Flag’ ensures members are alerted to new notifications
•Members can move around notifications without needing to return to the homepage
•If a member is in an activity, notifications for that activity will be positioned at the top of the notification list

12. Pop-up profiles
What: Participants can now see other member’s profile information quickly and easily by simply clicking on
usernames
Benefit: Better visibility of member profiles and increased levels of community interaction
Description:
• Pop-up window lets participants ‘follow’ other participants, and provides a link to their their full profile
• This approach heightens the sense of community and allows participants to build micro-communities of the people
they want to connect to

13. Avatar library
What: A library of avatars that participants can select if they don’t have a profile pic
Benefit: Removal of barriers to participation and pressure of sharing personal pictures
Description:
• Selection of 20 different default avatars for when you don’t have a profile picture to-hand
• If profile pictures are made optional, members can upload their own profile picture, or be assigned a default
avatar
• If profile picture are turned off, members will automatically be assigned on of the default avatars

14. Commenting
What: Updated ‘commenting’
Benefit: Easier to follow ‘conversations’
Description:
• Cleaner UX, makes reading through comments easier to follow
• Updated UX also make contributing a comment quicker and easier
• Enhancements mean when adding comments, members can now upload of pictures, videos, Word and Excel
documents, PDFs and webcam recordings

15. Drag&Drop multimedia uploading
What: Upgraded media sharing functionality
Benefit: Better user-experience removes need for customer support
Description:
• Improved user experience, ensures members can more easily focus on the task of sharing files
• Single interface for uploading all media-types (pictures, videos, word and excel documents, pdf files, mp3s)
• Updated Record Webcam interface (see next page)
• Drag-and drop interface for modern browsers (IE8+, Chrome, Firefox 3.5+) allows members to drag files directly into the
upload section
• Drag-and-drop ‘gracefully degrades’ for older systems, ensuring participant experience isn’t confused
• Ability to add multiple files at the same time
• Mouse-over file-type icons reveals supported file formats

16. PictureBook tool
What: Improved user-experience around the PictureBook tool
Benefit: Better organisation of media and ability to add captions
Description:
•Inspired by Pinterest
•Pictures are now organised in ‘galleries’
•Captions and titles can be easily added when pictures are uploaded
•Viewing pictures within galleries is improved. Mouse-over images to reveal captions and descriptions
•Participants can now ‘like’ and ‘comment’ on pictures
•Recent Activity widget places greater focus on participants’ pictures
•New viewing filters include my posts, everyone’s posts and people I’m following

17. Blog tool
What: Enhancements to the Blog tool
Benefit: Improved user-experience and custom filtering
Description:
• Participants can now toggle between viewing just their own posts or all posts (within social
activities)
• View all post by username feature - allows a member to go from viewing all posts by all members to
to viewing all posts by a single member.

18. Activities listing
What: Clearer list of activities on the homepage
Benefit: Better user-experience that’s easier to navigate and manages expectations
Description:
•Now just a single list of activities on the homepage
•Newest activities appear at the top, oldest at the bottom (with the exception of pinned tasks)
•Sequenced activities are communicated by way of layered list entries
•Inclusion of additional activity info, including time remaining to post, and whether or not an activity is private
•Tag denotes whether the participants has posted to the activity, or not

20. Upgraded Help Desk
What: Upgraded Help Desk support system
Benefit: Greater level of support for users, thus reducing time Administrators need to deliver support
Description:
• FAQs for all of IdeaStream’s participant tools and features new and old
• Native translation, so you can instantly access them in a range of languages rather than relying on Google
Translate
• Location based support, so you can get relevant help wherever you are in the IdeaStream
• Pop-up ‘help’ sections so you can return to your work where you left it, without having navigate somewhere
else
• A set of searchable FAQs so you can quickly find what you without having to look too hard

21. Upgraded Help Desk cont.
Each key page in the Admin centre has its own dedicated Help page that includes detailed inter-connected ‘how-to’
descriptions, training videos and videos (where appropriate)
• If the researcher can’t find the answer, they can search over 100 FAQs
• FAQs now cover all aspects of the researcher experience including setup, moderation, analysis and mobile
• If the researcher can’t resolve an issue, they can get raise a support case from the within integrated Help Desk
that Dub’s support team will pick-up and resolve

22. Training videos
What: Much-improved training videos covering all aspects of setup and moderation using IdeaStream
Benefit: Hands-off training reduces time for adoption
Description:
•An increased number of structured, shorter videos covering all aspects of the IdeasStream platform
•Videos are broken down into key sections - participant experience, setting up your community, moderating
your community, analysing your community and mobile
•Each video covers a specific aspect so you can watch a single section, or a entire topic
•Videos are also integrated into the Help Desk, allowing you to access relevant videos wherever you are in the

23. Additional upgrades
•Participants can now share Pictures, Videos, Word and Excel documents, PDF files
and MP3s to open-ended questions in Extended Profile and Survey questions. If you
set an Extended Profile question to display to other participants, and the question
includes the ability to add multimedia, the uploaded files will be displayed to in the
member’s profile page
•Background images used to customise the community’s look and feel are now
scaled to the size of your browser window.
•Members can now ‘like’ any post or comment by clicking on a heart-shaped icon.
(Research found that down-voting was having negative impact on attitudes)
•Managing widgets is now easier. Widgets are now organise within the Admin Ctr
around the page they appear on.
•A new look and feel to the Admin Centre which provides greater flexibility for future
upgrades
