A University library is a library, or system of libraries,
established, supported and administered by a university
to meet the information needs of its students and faculty
and support its instrumental, research, and service

sebsequently tested out in the laboratory.
 The library is the heart of all the university's work;
directly so as regards its research work and indirectly as
regards its work, which derives its life from research
work.
 Scientific research needs a library as well as its
laboratories, while for humanistic research the library is
both library and laboratory in one
 Loeb & Radhakrishnan commision
To facilitate and participate in the teaching, research, and
extension education programmes by providing literature
and information support.
To make educative, not merely store house of reading
material for preservation, that will enhance the intellectual
and research skill in the student.
Objectives of University Library
Development of a collection of wide variety of subjects
for learning, teaching, research, publication, etc.
Getting the stock of knowledge materials organize and
maintained for use.
Organize and provide variety of library documentation
and information services, both responsive and
anticipatory.
Objective and functions of UL
It build up a need-based, balanced and up-to-date
collection of reading material to serve as a reservoir of
information.
Library therefore perform a variety of functions, by way of
helping students with textbooks, parallel studies, reference
books and periodical.
To take responsibility of collecting and supplying the
right type of literature to the scholar at the appropriate
time, pin pointedly , exhaustively and expeditiously.
