Revelation 11
Dr. Tony Mariot
Hebrews 4:12
“For the word of God is quick, and powerful, and sharper than any twoedged sword, piercing even to the dividing asunder of
soul and spirit, and of the joints and marrow, and is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart.”
• The word of God is Jesus. John 1:1 “In the beginning was the word and the word was God and the word was with God”
• There was never a time when Jesus did not exist and was not with God (John 17:5, 24).
• The two edged sword - Jesus speaks unfiltered truth.
• “piercing even to the dividing asunder of soul and spirit” - Jesus can separate who you are as a spirit, and what you think as a man.
• “and the joints and marrow” - His ability to separate the things you do in the flesh instinctively from what you do that’s well thought out beforehand.
• “and is a discerner of the thoughts and intent of the heart” - (Proverbs 24:12) His ability to separate what you have thought about and what thoughts have
made it into your heart, what you intend to act on, whether you had the opportunity to act on those thoughts or not, good or bad.
Review - the Scope of Christ Judgment
Works tried by fire
1 Corinthians 3:13-15
13 Every man's work shall be made manifest: for the day shall declare it, because it shall be revealed by fire; and the fire shall try every man's work of what sort it is.
14 If any man's work abide which he hath built thereupon, he shall receive a reward.
15 If any man's work shall be burned, he shall suffer loss: but he himself shall be saved; yet so as by fire.
Judgment seat of Christ
2 Corinthians 5:10
“For we must all appear before the judgment seat of Christ; that every one may receive the things done in his body, according to that he hath done, whether it be good
bad.”
Degree of judgment Jesus uses
Hebrews 4:12
“For the word of God is quick, and powerful, and sharper than any twoedged sword, piercing even to the dividing asunder of soul and spirit, and of the joints and
marrow, and is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart.”
Seven Things God Hates
Proverbs 6:16-19
16 These six things doth the Lord hate: yea, seven are an abomination unto him:
17 A proud look, a lying tongue, and hands that shed innocent blood,
18 An heart that deviseth wicked imaginations, feet that be swift in running to mischief,
19 A false witness that speaketh lies, and he that soweth discord among brethren.
The natural end of the path, God takes his hand off you
Romans 1:20-32, 1 Corinthians 5:1-7
Examine your Judgment before the Lord
You must value your relationship with the Lord more than people
EXERCISE
1. Be brutally truthful which seven you’ve participated in regardless of your justification
2. What is the truth of WHY you do this, whats the source?
3. Accept what God has said about you, not what others have said about you
• You can do all things through Christ (Philippians 4:13)
• God will finish His work in you (Philippians 1:6)
• No condemnation in Christ if you walk after the spirit (Romans 8:1, Gal 5:22-23)
• Nothing can separate you from the love of God (Romans 8:38-39)
• All things will work for your good (Romans 8:28)
• God will not allow your circumstances to take you out (1 Corinthians 10:13)
• God has not given me a spirit of fear, but of power, love and a sound mind. (2 Timothy 1:7)
• Your life’s difficulties work to your glory with the Lord (2 Corinthians 4:17)
• God wants more for you than you want for yourself (1 Corinthians 2:9)
• God is for you, no one can be against you? (Romans 8:31)
4. Ask the Lord to forgive you for participating in the sin
5. Where possible, make it right with the people you have offended, ask for their forgiveness
6. Accept an accountability partner to get it done in 5 days
7. Note what the Holy Spirit says to you and how more frequently He speaks - evidence
2Peter 2:20-22, James 4:17 -To know the word and NOT do it
Revelation Eleven
Verse one: “And there was given me a reed like unto a rod: and the Angel stood, saying, Rise, and measure the temple of God,
and the altar, and them that worship therein”
“And there was given me a reed like unto a rod”
The Greek word for reed is “Kalamos” which is a plant or more specifically the stem of a
plant, It was used as a writing utensil, like a pen.
John measures the temple and altar, he is also instructed to measure or count those that worship inside the temple
on earth.
There are two temples, one in Heaven where the numbers of people in it no man could number, who stand before
the Throne of God (Rev. 7:9-11, 15:5-8).
Temple on Earth
Temple in Heaven
The other temple is on the earth (Rev. 11:1-2) its the only temple left on the earth to get saved.
Once the seven plagues begin, the temple on earth is closed, which means that salvation is done and over with.
Everyone on the planet from this point on has no more hope of salvation.
Verse two: “But the court which is without the temple leave out, and measure it not; for it is given unto the Gentiles: and the
holy city shall they tread under foot forty and two months”
The court outside the temple John is not to measure. It will be left for the Gentiles to walk around in for 31⁄2 years
or 42 months during the tribulation.
“and Jerusalem shall be trodden down of the Gentiles until the time of the Gentiles be fulfilled” (Luke 21:24)
The Holy city is Jerusalem which is the location of the court and the temple during these events.
The significance of measuring the temple is that the measured area outlines a boundary where God will maintain
the remnant of Israel. God’s presence will ONLY be within the boundary during the tribulation.
It is Jewish custom to measure an area that belongs to you, the courtyard is not measured because the Gentiles
inhabit it and the Gentiles are not the chosen people.
The Gentiles belong to Christ and the Jews to God as with Gods covenant with Abraham.
John 17:20
“Neither pray I for these alone, but for them also which shall believe on me through their word;”
• A covenant defined or created a relationship.
• Some covenants are conditional (if one party does A, then the other party will do B),
Generally, ancient covenants are unconditional (each party commits to a certain action, regardless of whether the other party
keeps the covenant).
• Covenants often included the slaughter of animals as a symbol of their significance, with the implication that the party who
breaks the covenant will suffer a similar fate as the animal.
• Covenants often carried no expiration date. The parties were understood to be bound by the covenant until death (or forever,
in the case of covenants with God, for generations…your family is bound too).
• A contract is enforced by the civil government; a covenant is regulated by God.
• A contract involves the exchange of property or actions; a covenant binds two parties together personally.
Rules of a Covenant
The Old Covenants
The covenants in Genesis 12-17 is known in Hebrew as the Brit bein HaBetarim, the "Covenant Between the Parts" and is the
basis for brit milah (covenant of circumcision) in Judaism. The covenant was for Abraham and his seed, or offspring, both of
natural birth and adoption, which covers servants etc.
• God sets up two types of covenants with Abraham, In Genesis 12 and 15, God grants Abraham land and a multitude of
descendants but does not place any stipulations (unconditional) on Abraham for the covenant's fulfillment.
Decretive will of God (Genesis 12:1-3, 15:18-21 - later called the promise land)
• Genesis 17 the covenant of circumcision (conditional). Genesis 17:2-9 brit milah
Covenants in biblical times were often sealed by severing an animal,. In Hebrew, to seal a covenant translates literally as "to
cut".
New Covenant through Jesus
• God Promises the Holy Spirit - Jeremiah 31:31-34 - Hebrews 8:6-12
• The New Testament is through Jesus because of His sacrifice Jesus - 1 Corinthians 11:25, Luke 22:18-22
20 “Likewise also the cup after supper, saying, This cup is the new testament in my blood, which is shed for you.”
• God sending His Son, supersedes original covenant
Romans 8:1-8
3. “For what the law could not do, in that it was weak through the flesh, God sending his own Son in the likeness of sinful flesh, and for sin,
condemned sin in the flesh:”
• The impending arrival of the Holy Spirit - John 14:16, 26, 15:26, 16:7
• Ask in Jesus Name - John 16:23-28
• Power given to Jesus and passed on to us - Matthew 28:18 - All power is given to Jesus, Luke 10:19-20 - “I give you power”
Acts 1:7-9
7 And he said unto them, It is not for you to know the times or the seasons, which the Father hath put in his own power.
8 But ye shall receive power, after that the Holy Ghost is come upon you: and ye shall be witnesses unto me both in Jerusalem, and in all
Judaea, and in Samaria, and unto the uttermost part of the earth.
9 And when he had spoken these things, while they beheld, he was taken up; and a cloud received him out of their sight.
• 1 Corinthians 12:1- 11, Evidence of the power of the Holy Spirit -Gifts, James 4:7 Resist the Devil and he will flee -Power
Verse three: “And I will give power unto my two witnesses, and they shall prophesy a thousand two hundred and threescore
days, clothed in sackcloth”
These two witnesses will be dressed in sackcloth, which is mohair. The Greek word for Mohair is “Sakkos”.
Sackcloth was once used to strain liquids through or as a bag to carry grain in.
It was later used as mourning or grief clothing to suggest humility.
Mohair
Sackcloth and Ashes
“and they shall prophesie a thousand two hundred and threescore days” (3 1⁄2 years).
Who are the Two Witnesses?
Matthew 17:1-9 Transfiguration
Moses & Elijah
“And it is appointed unto men once to die, but after this the judgment” (Hebrews 9:27)
Elijah and Enoch are the only people to have never died, according to scripture.
“And Enoch walked with God and he was not, for God took him” (Genesis 5:24)
“By faith, Enoch was translated that he should not see death and was not found, because God had translated him”
(Hebrews 11:5)
The word translated in Greek is “Metatithemi” meaning transport, change sides, remove, change.
Enoch
“Behold there appeared a chariot of fire and horses of fire and parted them both asunder and Elijah went up in a whirlwind
into Heaven” (2 Kings 2:11)
Elijha’s Mantle
Elijah
Two Witnesses
Elijah and Enoch,
not Elijah and Moses
Elijah
Enoch
Moses
Verse four: “These are the two olive trees, and the two candlesticks standing before the God of the earth”
Candlesticks in Greek is “Lutroies” meaning, redeemer, and deliverer. - The work of these two witnesses during
the tribulation will cause the conversion of many after their deaths.
The olive tree reference comes from the use of olive oil as an anointing oil during the biblical period
(Zechariah 4:11-14).
Verse five: “And if any man will hurt them, fire proceedeth out of their mouth, and devoureth their enemies: and if any man
will hurt them, he must in this manner be killed”
This is literal fire that comes out of their mouths. If anyone tries to mess with them they are
burned alive.
Verse six: “These have power to shut heaven, that it rain not in the days of their prophecy: and have power over waters to
turn them to blood, and to smite the earth with all plagues, as often as they will”
No rain for 3/12 years during their ministry.
Famines, blood in waters, earthquakes, hail with fire, blotting out the sun, moon and stars, hail with fire and
blood, burning mountains, poisoning of the waters, locusts, frogs etc.
Verse seven: “And when they shall have finished their testimony, the beast that ascendeth out of the bottomless pit shall make
war against them, and shall overcome them, and kill them”
The beast from the bottomless pit that kills them is the Destroyer, Apollyon, a Demon.
Rev. 9:11
“And they had a king over them, which is the angel of the bottomless pit, whose name in the Hebrew tongue is Abaddon, but
in the Greek tongue hath his name Apollyon.”
Verse eight: “And their dead bodies shall lie in the street of the great city, which spiritually is called Sodom and Egypt, where
also our Lord was crucified”
“Which spiritually is called Sodom and Egypt”
Sodom was full of pride, they were glutens, selfish, egotistic and committed to abominations, their sins went
beyond the seven things God hates.
(Ezekiel 16:49-50; Proverbs 6:16-19).
Genesis 19:24-25
24 “Then the Lord rained upon Sodom and upon Gomorrah brimstone and fire from the Lord out of heaven;
25 And he overthrew those cities, and all the plain, and all the inhabitants of the cities, and that which grew upon the
ground.”
(Deut. 29:22-23; Jeremiah 49:18, 50:40; Isaiah 13:1; Amos 4:11; Luke 17:29; Jude 7).
Brimstone/Sulfer
• Brimstone means, "burning stone" or, "the stone that burns."
• When a plain brimstone is exposed to the air, nothing happens- when lit, it will burn like a liquid fire, and it emits noxious
fumes.
• The stone melts like wax with a peculiar thick fire.
• As it burns, it has a rich, fluorescent-deep cobalt bluish color.
• It becomes a sticky, "acidy"- burning fire.
Characteristics of Fire and Brimstone
Significance of the judgment of Sodom
Sodom and Gomorrah is the physical location of the modern Dead Sea, which is 1369 feet below sea level, the
lowest point on dry earth. The deepest part of the sea is 2300 feet below sea level, it spans 3700 miles between
Turkey and Africa.
During the time of Abraham, there were five cities called the cities of the plain (Genesis 13:11-13). They were
Sodom, Gomorrah, Admah, Zeboiim, and Zoar. God destroyed four of the five cities by fire and brimstone but spared
the land where Abraham lived, Zoar (Genesis 13:10-12)
Contains 21 minerals, 12 of which can only be found at the Dead Sea , 31 percent of the land is salt. The wilderness
of Judea, whose mountains run parallel to the Dead Sea on the Israeli side, is the site of the 40-day temptation of
Christ by Satan. (Matthew 4:1-11)
Dead Sea
The reference to Egypt refers to the idolatry and persecution of Egypt on the children of Israel.
Jesus was crucified at Golgothah (Calvery) a knoll near Jerusalem, which is not too far from the Dead Sea
(Matthew 27:33; John 19:17-18; Mark 15:22).
Verse eight: “And their dead bodies shall lie in the street of the great city, which spiritually is called Sodom and Egypt, where
also our Lord was crucified”
Back to verse 8
Verse nine: “And they of the people and kindreds and tongues and nations shall see their dead bodies three days and an half, and shall not
suffer their dead bodies to be put in graves”
The people left the bodies of the two witnesses in the street for 31⁄2 days, which is symbolic of the 31⁄2 years the witnesses
plagued the people.
Verse ten: “And they that dwell upon the earth shall rejoice over them, and make merry, and shall send gifts one to another; because these
two prophets tormented them that dwelt on the earth”
Verse eleven: “And after three days and an half, the Spirit of life from God entered into them, and they stood upon their feet; and great fear
fell upon them which saw them”
After 31⁄2 days God resurrects the two witnesses and they get up on their feet. They are also changed into glorified bodies, as
those in the rapture.
Verse twelve: “And they heard a great voice from heaven saying unto them, Come up hither. And they ascended up to heaven in a cloud;
and their enemies beheld them”
They go up in a cloud, as all the believers before the tribulation were caught up in the clouds (1 Thessalonians 4:17).
Verse thirteen: “And the same hour was there a great earthquake, and the tenth part of the city fell, and in the earthquake were slain of men
seven thousand: and the remnant were affrighted, and gave glory to the God of heaven”
This is type and shadow of what happen when Jesus was crucified (Matthew 27:50-51). The main difference being, the signs
with Christ took place when He died, with these two witnesses, it happens after they are ascended.
The remnant that was afraid, refers to those who are saved because of the word of the 144K, who are already in Heaven at this
point. This remnant, must be slain themselves at some point.
“and the remnant were affrighted, and gave glory to the God of heaven”
Verse fourteen: “The second woe is past; and behold, the third woe cometh quickly”
The third Woe is the last of the seven vial judgments.
Verse fifteen: “And the seventh Angel sounded; and there were great voices in heaven, saying, The kingdoms of this world are become the
kingdoms of our Lord, and of his Christ; and he shall reign for ever and ever”
The seventh Angel brings the third woe.
“who shall reign forever and ever” is God Himself, after the thousand year reign and the final judgment. God reigns on Earth with
man forever and ever.
Revelation 21:22-23
22 “And I saw no temple therein: for the Lord God Almighty and the Lamb are the temple of it.
23 And the city had no need of the sun, neither of the moon, to shine in it: for the glory of God did lighten it, and the Lamb is the light
thereof.”
God always takes precedence in any place He is discussed, unless it expressly gives the distinction to Jesus.
In eternity, God and Jesus reign together.
“For the Lord God giveth them light, and they shall reign forever and ever” (Rev. 21:3-5)
Verse sixteen: “And the four and twenty elders, which sat before God on their seats, fell upon their faces, and worshipped God”
24 Elders are the heads of the Twelve tribes of Israel and the Twelve Apostles. (Acts 1:13, 21-22, 26)
Jacob had 12 sons and at least one daughter (Dinah) by two wives and two concubines. The twelve sons fathered the twelve
tribes of Israel. Genesis 35:23-26, Exodus 1:1-4, 1 Chronicles 2:1-2
Jacob elevated the descendants of Ephraim and Manasseh (the two sons of Joseph and his Egyptian wife Asenath) to full tribes in
their own right, replacing the tribe of Joseph. Genesis 48:1-22
Dan fell into idolatry and was removed Judges 18:30-31
Ephraim worshipped idols and lost his place Hosea 4:17

History of the Twelve Tribes
The Final Twelve Tribes
Twelve Apostles
Acts 1:13, 26,
13 “And when they were come in, they went up into an upper room, where abode both Peter, and James, and John, and Andrew, Philip, and
Thomas, Bartholomew, and Matthew, James the son of Alphaeus, and Simon Zelotes, and Judas the brother of James.”
26 “And they gave forth their lots; and the lot fell upon Matthias; and he was numbered with the eleven apostles.”
Peter,
James,
John,
Andrew,
Phillip,
Thomas,
Bartholomew,
Matthew,
James “son of Alpheus”,
Simon Zelotes,
Juda “brother of James son of Alpheus”
and Matthias.
Subtract Judas add Mathias for 12
Verse seventeen: “Saying, We give thee thanks, O Lord God Almighty, which art, and wast, and art to come; because thou hast taken to thee
thy great power, and hast reigned”
“Lord God Almighty” would mean “God Himself” but because of the designation that follows, “which art and wast and art to
come” it is a reference to Jesus.
“because thou hast taken to thee thy great power and hast reigned”
This refers to two aspects of Christ.
• The power He has, was given to Him by God after His resurrection, at some point before His final ascension to Heaven.
“All power is given unto me in Heaven and in Earth” (Matthew 28:18)
• Jesus reigns presently in Heaven and will reign on Earth during the thousand years after Satan is bound in the bottomless pit
(Rev. 20:4).
Verse eighteen: “And the nations were angry, and thy wrath is come, and the time of the dead, that they should be judged, and that thou
shouldest give reward unto thy servants the prophets, and to the saints, and them that fear thy name, small and great; and shouldest destroy
them which destroy the earth”
• The nations who are angry, are all those who remain in the tribulation.
• The wrath, is Jesus’ wrath in the battle of Armageddon (Rev. 19:21).
• “the time of the dead that they should be judged” Those presently in Hell, and await the GWT Judgment (Rev. 20:11-13).
• “and that shouldest give reward unto thy servants and the Prophets” The judgment seat of Christ (2 Corinthians 5:10)
• “and to the saints and them that fear thy name” All saints through all time.
• “and shouldest destroy them that destroy the earth” Those out of tribulation at the GWTJ (Rev. 20:14-15)
Verse nineteen: “And the temple of God was opened in heaven, and there was seen in his temple the ark of his testament: and there were
lightnings, and voices, and thunderings, and an earthquake, and great hail”
“And the Temple of God was opened in Heaven”
• This is an invitation to all the Host of Heaven to come into the temple.
“and there was seen in His temple the Ark of His testament”
• His testament is Gods word, His promises with respect to Him fulfilling what He has said that was written in the book,
containing the plagues of the tribulation.
• The ark is where the book rests, once the plagues of the book have been poured out.
• All the lightning, thunder, earthquakes and hail, are a great “finale” to the tribulation, now begins the time of the false prophet
and the Anti-Christ.

Revelation 11 - Tony Mariot

  • 2. Hebrews 4:12 “For the word of God is quick, and powerful, and sharper than any twoedged sword, piercing even to the dividing asunder of soul and spirit, and of the joints and marrow, and is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart.” • The word of God is Jesus. John 1:1 “In the beginning was the word and the word was God and the word was with God” • There was never a time when Jesus did not exist and was not with God (John 17:5, 24). • “and is a discerner of the thoughts and intent of the heart” - (Proverbs 24:12) His ability to separate what you have thought about and what thoughts have made it into your heart, what you intend to act on, whether you had the opportunity to act on those thoughts or not, good or bad. Review - the Scope of Christ Judgment
  • 3. Works tried by fire 1 Corinthians 3:13-15 13 Every man's work shall be made manifest: for the day shall declare it, because it shall be revealed by fire; and the fire shall try every man's work of what sort it is. 14 If any man's work abide which he hath built thereupon, he shall receive a reward. 15 If any man's work shall be burned, he shall suffer loss: but he himself shall be saved; yet so as by fire. Judgment seat of Christ 2 Corinthians 5:10 “For we must all appear before the judgment seat of Christ; that every one may receive the things done in his body, according to that he hath done, whether it be good bad.” Degree of judgment Jesus uses Hebrews 4:12 “For the word of God is quick, and powerful, and sharper than any twoedged sword, piercing even to the dividing asunder of soul and spirit, and of the joints and marrow, and is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart.” Seven Things God Hates Proverbs 6:16-19 16 These six things doth the Lord hate: yea, seven are an abomination unto him: 17 A proud look, a lying tongue, and hands that shed innocent blood, 18 An heart that deviseth wicked imaginations, feet that be swift in running to mischief, 19 A false witness that speaketh lies, and he that soweth discord among brethren. The natural end of the path, God takes his hand off you Romans 1:20-32, 1 Corinthians 5:1-7 Examine your Judgment before the Lord
  • 4. You must value your relationship with the Lord more than people EXERCISE 1. Be brutally truthful which seven you’ve participated in regardless of your justification 2. What is the truth of WHY you do this, whats the source? 3. Accept what God has said about you, not what others have said about you • You can do all things through Christ (Philippians 4:13) • God will finish His work in you (Philippians 1:6) • No condemnation in Christ if you walk after the spirit (Romans 8:1, Gal 5:22-23) • Nothing can separate you from the love of God (Romans 8:38-39) • All things will work for your good (Romans 8:28) • God will not allow your circumstances to take you out (1 Corinthians 10:13) • God has not given me a spirit of fear, but of power, love and a sound mind. (2 Timothy 1:7) • Your life’s difficulties work to your glory with the Lord (2 Corinthians 4:17) • God wants more for you than you want for yourself (1 Corinthians 2:9) • God is for you, no one can be against you? (Romans 8:31) 4. Ask the Lord to forgive you for participating in the sin 5. Where possible, make it right with the people you have offended, ask for their forgiveness 6. Accept an accountability partner to get it done in 5 days 7. Note what the Holy Spirit says to you and how more frequently He speaks - evidence 2Peter 2:20-22, James 4:17 -To know the word and NOT do it
  • 6. Verse one: “And there was given me a reed like unto a rod: and the Angel stood, saying, Rise, and measure the temple of God, and the altar, and them that worship therein” “And there was given me a reed like unto a rod” The Greek word for reed is “Kalamos” which is a plant or more specifically the stem of a plant, It was used as a writing utensil, like a pen.
  • 7. John measures the temple and altar, he is also instructed to measure or count those that worship inside the temple on earth.
  • 8. There are two temples, one in Heaven where the numbers of people in it no man could number, who stand before the Throne of God (Rev. 7:9-11, 15:5-8). Temple on Earth Temple in Heaven The other temple is on the earth (Rev. 11:1-2) its the only temple left on the earth to get saved.
  • 9. Once the seven plagues begin, the temple on earth is closed, which means that salvation is done and over with. Everyone on the planet from this point on has no more hope of salvation.
  • 10. Verse two: “But the court which is without the temple leave out, and measure it not; for it is given unto the Gentiles: and the holy city shall they tread under foot forty and two months” The court outside the temple John is not to measure. It will be left for the Gentiles to walk around in for 31⁄2 years or 42 months during the tribulation. “and Jerusalem shall be trodden down of the Gentiles until the time of the Gentiles be fulfilled” (Luke 21:24) The Holy city is Jerusalem which is the location of the court and the temple during these events.
  • 11. The significance of measuring the temple is that the measured area outlines a boundary where God will maintain the remnant of Israel. God’s presence will ONLY be within the boundary during the tribulation.
  • 12. It is Jewish custom to measure an area that belongs to you, the courtyard is not measured because the Gentiles inhabit it and the Gentiles are not the chosen people. The Gentiles belong to Christ and the Jews to God as with Gods covenant with Abraham. John 17:20 “Neither pray I for these alone, but for them also which shall believe on me through their word;”
  • 13. • A covenant defined or created a relationship. • Some covenants are conditional (if one party does A, then the other party will do B), Generally, ancient covenants are unconditional (each party commits to a certain action, regardless of whether the other party keeps the covenant). • Covenants often included the slaughter of animals as a symbol of their significance, with the implication that the party who breaks the covenant will suffer a similar fate as the animal. • Covenants often carried no expiration date. The parties were understood to be bound by the covenant until death (or forever, in the case of covenants with God, for generations…your family is bound too). • A contract is enforced by the civil government; a covenant is regulated by God. • A contract involves the exchange of property or actions; a covenant binds two parties together personally. Rules of a Covenant
  • 14. The Old Covenants The covenants in Genesis 12-17 is known in Hebrew as the Brit bein HaBetarim, the "Covenant Between the Parts" and is the basis for brit milah (covenant of circumcision) in Judaism. The covenant was for Abraham and his seed, or offspring, both of natural birth and adoption, which covers servants etc. • God sets up two types of covenants with Abraham, In Genesis 12 and 15, God grants Abraham land and a multitude of descendants but does not place any stipulations (unconditional) on Abraham for the covenant's fulfillment. Decretive will of God (Genesis 12:1-3, 15:18-21 - later called the promise land) • Genesis 17 the covenant of circumcision (conditional). Genesis 17:2-9 brit milah Covenants in biblical times were often sealed by severing an animal,. In Hebrew, to seal a covenant translates literally as "to cut".
  • 15. New Covenant through Jesus • God Promises the Holy Spirit - Jeremiah 31:31-34 - Hebrews 8:6-12 • The New Testament is through Jesus because of His sacrifice Jesus - 1 Corinthians 11:25, Luke 22:18-22 20 “Likewise also the cup after supper, saying, This cup is the new testament in my blood, which is shed for you.” • God sending His Son, supersedes original covenant Romans 8:1-8  3. “For what the law could not do, in that it was weak through the flesh, God sending his own Son in the likeness of sinful flesh, and for sin, condemned sin in the flesh:” • The impending arrival of the Holy Spirit - John 14:16, 26, 15:26, 16:7 • Ask in Jesus Name - John 16:23-28 • Power given to Jesus and passed on to us - Matthew 28:18 - All power is given to Jesus, Luke 10:19-20 - “I give you power” Acts 1:7-9 7 And he said unto them, It is not for you to know the times or the seasons, which the Father hath put in his own power. 8 But ye shall receive power, after that the Holy Ghost is come upon you: and ye shall be witnesses unto me both in Jerusalem, and in all Judaea, and in Samaria, and unto the uttermost part of the earth. 9 And when he had spoken these things, while they beheld, he was taken up; and a cloud received him out of their sight. • 1 Corinthians 12:1- 11, Evidence of the power of the Holy Spirit -Gifts, James 4:7 Resist the Devil and he will flee -Power
  • 16. Verse three: “And I will give power unto my two witnesses, and they shall prophesy a thousand two hundred and threescore days, clothed in sackcloth” These two witnesses will be dressed in sackcloth, which is mohair. The Greek word for Mohair is “Sakkos”. Sackcloth was once used to strain liquids through or as a bag to carry grain in. It was later used as mourning or grief clothing to suggest humility. Mohair Sackcloth and Ashes
  • 17. “and they shall prophesie a thousand two hundred and threescore days” (3 1⁄2 years). Who are the Two Witnesses? Matthew 17:1-9 Transfiguration Moses & Elijah
  • 18. “And it is appointed unto men once to die, but after this the judgment” (Hebrews 9:27) Elijah and Enoch are the only people to have never died, according to scripture. “And Enoch walked with God and he was not, for God took him” (Genesis 5:24) “By faith, Enoch was translated that he should not see death and was not found, because God had translated him” (Hebrews 11:5) The word translated in Greek is “Metatithemi” meaning transport, change sides, remove, change. Enoch
  • 19. “Behold there appeared a chariot of fire and horses of fire and parted them both asunder and Elijah went up in a whirlwind into Heaven” (2 Kings 2:11) Elijha’s Mantle Elijah
  • 20. Two Witnesses Elijah and Enoch, not Elijah and Moses Elijah Enoch Moses
  • 21. Verse four: “These are the two olive trees, and the two candlesticks standing before the God of the earth” Candlesticks in Greek is “Lutroies” meaning, redeemer, and deliverer. - The work of these two witnesses during the tribulation will cause the conversion of many after their deaths. The olive tree reference comes from the use of olive oil as an anointing oil during the biblical period (Zechariah 4:11-14).
  • 22. Verse five: “And if any man will hurt them, fire proceedeth out of their mouth, and devoureth their enemies: and if any man will hurt them, he must in this manner be killed” This is literal fire that comes out of their mouths. If anyone tries to mess with them they are burned alive.
  • 23. Verse six: “These have power to shut heaven, that it rain not in the days of their prophecy: and have power over waters to turn them to blood, and to smite the earth with all plagues, as often as they will” No rain for 3/12 years during their ministry. Famines, blood in waters, earthquakes, hail with fire, blotting out the sun, moon and stars, hail with fire and blood, burning mountains, poisoning of the waters, locusts, frogs etc.
  • 24. Verse seven: “And when they shall have finished their testimony, the beast that ascendeth out of the bottomless pit shall make war against them, and shall overcome them, and kill them” The beast from the bottomless pit that kills them is the Destroyer, Apollyon, a Demon. Rev. 9:11 “And they had a king over them, which is the angel of the bottomless pit, whose name in the Hebrew tongue is Abaddon, but in the Greek tongue hath his name Apollyon.”
  • 25. Verse eight: “And their dead bodies shall lie in the street of the great city, which spiritually is called Sodom and Egypt, where also our Lord was crucified” “Which spiritually is called Sodom and Egypt” Sodom was full of pride, they were glutens, selfish, egotistic and committed to abominations, their sins went beyond the seven things God hates. (Ezekiel 16:49-50; Proverbs 6:16-19). Genesis 19:24-25 24 “Then the Lord rained upon Sodom and upon Gomorrah brimstone and fire from the Lord out of heaven; 25 And he overthrew those cities, and all the plain, and all the inhabitants of the cities, and that which grew upon the ground.” (Deut. 29:22-23; Jeremiah 49:18, 50:40; Isaiah 13:1; Amos 4:11; Luke 17:29; Jude 7).
  • 26. Brimstone/Sulfer • Brimstone means, "burning stone" or, "the stone that burns." • When a plain brimstone is exposed to the air, nothing happens- when lit, it will burn like a liquid fire, and it emits noxious fumes. • The stone melts like wax with a peculiar thick fire. • As it burns, it has a rich, fluorescent-deep cobalt bluish color. • It becomes a sticky, "acidy"- burning fire. Characteristics of Fire and Brimstone
  • 27. Significance of the judgment of Sodom Sodom and Gomorrah is the physical location of the modern Dead Sea, which is 1369 feet below sea level, the lowest point on dry earth. The deepest part of the sea is 2300 feet below sea level, it spans 3700 miles between Turkey and Africa.
  • 28. During the time of Abraham, there were five cities called the cities of the plain (Genesis 13:11-13). They were Sodom, Gomorrah, Admah, Zeboiim, and Zoar. God destroyed four of the five cities by fire and brimstone but spared the land where Abraham lived, Zoar (Genesis 13:10-12)
  • 29. Contains 21 minerals, 12 of which can only be found at the Dead Sea , 31 percent of the land is salt. The wilderness of Judea, whose mountains run parallel to the Dead Sea on the Israeli side, is the site of the 40-day temptation of Christ by Satan. (Matthew 4:1-11) Dead Sea
  • 30. The reference to Egypt refers to the idolatry and persecution of Egypt on the children of Israel. Jesus was crucified at Golgothah (Calvery) a knoll near Jerusalem, which is not too far from the Dead Sea (Matthew 27:33; John 19:17-18; Mark 15:22). Verse eight: “And their dead bodies shall lie in the street of the great city, which spiritually is called Sodom and Egypt, where also our Lord was crucified” Back to verse 8
  • 31. Verse nine: “And they of the people and kindreds and tongues and nations shall see their dead bodies three days and an half, and shall not suffer their dead bodies to be put in graves” The people left the bodies of the two witnesses in the street for 31⁄2 days, which is symbolic of the 31⁄2 years the witnesses plagued the people.
  • 32. Verse ten: “And they that dwell upon the earth shall rejoice over them, and make merry, and shall send gifts one to another; because these two prophets tormented them that dwelt on the earth”
  • 33. Verse eleven: “And after three days and an half, the Spirit of life from God entered into them, and they stood upon their feet; and great fear fell upon them which saw them” After 31⁄2 days God resurrects the two witnesses and they get up on their feet. They are also changed into glorified bodies, as those in the rapture.
  • 34. Verse twelve: “And they heard a great voice from heaven saying unto them, Come up hither. And they ascended up to heaven in a cloud; and their enemies beheld them” They go up in a cloud, as all the believers before the tribulation were caught up in the clouds (1 Thessalonians 4:17).
  • 35. Verse thirteen: “And the same hour was there a great earthquake, and the tenth part of the city fell, and in the earthquake were slain of men seven thousand: and the remnant were affrighted, and gave glory to the God of heaven” This is type and shadow of what happen when Jesus was crucified (Matthew 27:50-51). The main difference being, the signs with Christ took place when He died, with these two witnesses, it happens after they are ascended.
  • 36. The remnant that was afraid, refers to those who are saved because of the word of the 144K, who are already in Heaven at this point. This remnant, must be slain themselves at some point. “and the remnant were affrighted, and gave glory to the God of heaven”
  • 37. Verse fourteen: “The second woe is past; and behold, the third woe cometh quickly” The third Woe is the last of the seven vial judgments. Verse fifteen: “And the seventh Angel sounded; and there were great voices in heaven, saying, The kingdoms of this world are become the kingdoms of our Lord, and of his Christ; and he shall reign for ever and ever” The seventh Angel brings the third woe. “who shall reign forever and ever” is God Himself, after the thousand year reign and the final judgment. God reigns on Earth with man forever and ever. Revelation 21:22-23 22 “And I saw no temple therein: for the Lord God Almighty and the Lamb are the temple of it. 23 And the city had no need of the sun, neither of the moon, to shine in it: for the glory of God did lighten it, and the Lamb is the light thereof.” God always takes precedence in any place He is discussed, unless it expressly gives the distinction to Jesus. In eternity, God and Jesus reign together. “For the Lord God giveth them light, and they shall reign forever and ever” (Rev. 21:3-5)
  • 38. Verse sixteen: “And the four and twenty elders, which sat before God on their seats, fell upon their faces, and worshipped God” 24 Elders are the heads of the Twelve tribes of Israel and the Twelve Apostles. (Acts 1:13, 21-22, 26)
  • 39. Jacob had 12 sons and at least one daughter (Dinah) by two wives and two concubines. The twelve sons fathered the twelve tribes of Israel. Genesis 35:23-26, Exodus 1:1-4, 1 Chronicles 2:1-2 Jacob elevated the descendants of Ephraim and Manasseh (the two sons of Joseph and his Egyptian wife Asenath) to full tribes in their own right, replacing the tribe of Joseph. Genesis 48:1-22 Dan fell into idolatry and was removed Judges 18:30-31 Ephraim worshipped idols and lost his place Hosea 4:17 Final tribes - Revelation 7:5-8 Juda Reuben Gad Aser Nephthalim Manasses * Josephs son Simeon Levi * Moses reorganized their inheritance as priest, no tribe, Joshua 13:14, they get it back because of Dan and Ephraim Issachar Zabulon Joseph *Numbers 1:1-19 changes from Manasseh and Ephraim to Joseph again because of Ephraim and Dan’s removal Benjamin History of the Twelve Tribes
  • 41. Twelve Apostles Acts 1:13, 26, 13 “And when they were come in, they went up into an upper room, where abode both Peter, and James, and John, and Andrew, Philip, and Thomas, Bartholomew, and Matthew, James the son of Alphaeus, and Simon Zelotes, and Judas the brother of James.” 26 “And they gave forth their lots; and the lot fell upon Matthias; and he was numbered with the eleven apostles.” Peter, James, John, Andrew, Phillip, Thomas, Bartholomew, Matthew, James “son of Alpheus”, Simon Zelotes, Juda “brother of James son of Alpheus” and Matthias. Subtract Judas add Mathias for 12
  • 42. Verse seventeen: “Saying, We give thee thanks, O Lord God Almighty, which art, and wast, and art to come; because thou hast taken to thee thy great power, and hast reigned” “Lord God Almighty” would mean “God Himself” but because of the designation that follows, “which art and wast and art to come” it is a reference to Jesus. “because thou hast taken to thee thy great power and hast reigned” This refers to two aspects of Christ. • The power He has, was given to Him by God after His resurrection, at some point before His final ascension to Heaven. “All power is given unto me in Heaven and in Earth” (Matthew 28:18) • Jesus reigns presently in Heaven and will reign on Earth during the thousand years after Satan is bound in the bottomless pit (Rev. 20:4).
  • 43. Verse eighteen: “And the nations were angry, and thy wrath is come, and the time of the dead, that they should be judged, and that thou shouldest give reward unto thy servants the prophets, and to the saints, and them that fear thy name, small and great; and shouldest destroy them which destroy the earth” • The nations who are angry, are all those who remain in the tribulation. • The wrath, is Jesus’ wrath in the battle of Armageddon (Rev. 19:21). • “the time of the dead that they should be judged” Those presently in Hell, and await the GWT Judgment (Rev. 20:11-13). • “and that shouldest give reward unto thy servants and the Prophets” The judgment seat of Christ (2 Corinthians 5:10) • “and to the saints and them that fear thy name” All saints through all time. • “and shouldest destroy them that destroy the earth” Those out of tribulation at the GWTJ (Rev. 20:14-15)
  • 44. Verse nineteen: “And the temple of God was opened in heaven, and there was seen in his temple the ark of his testament: and there were lightnings, and voices, and thunderings, and an earthquake, and great hail” “And the Temple of God was opened in Heaven” • This is an invitation to all the Host of Heaven to come into the temple. “and there was seen in His temple the Ark of His testament” • His testament is Gods word, His promises with respect to Him fulfilling what He has said that was written in the book, containing the plagues of the tribulation. • The ark is where the book rests, once the plagues of the book have been poured out. • All the lightning, thunder, earthquakes and hail, are a great “finale” to the tribulation, now begins the time of the false prophet and the Anti-Christ.
