2. QS WORLD RANKING
QS World University Rankings is an annual publication of university
rankings by Quacquarelli Symonds (QS)
QS ranking - one of the three most-widely read university rankings in the
world.
QS system comprises the global overall and subject rankings along side five
independent regional tables
(Asia, Latin America, Emerging Europe and Central Asia, the Arab Region,
and BRICS)
3. Methodology of QS World University Rankings
Indicator Weighting Elaboration
Academic peer review 40%
Based on an internal
global academic survey
Faculty/Student ratio 20%
Measurement of teaching
commitment
Citations per faculty 20%
Measurement of
research impact
Employer reputation 10%
Based on a survey on
graduate employers
International student ratio 5%
Measurement of the
diversity of the student
community
International staff ratio 5%
Measurement of the
diversity of the academic
staff
7. Citation per faculty
Research plays a major role in QS world ranking
Measure of research impact - Indicator aims to assess universities research
output
Citation- piece of research publications being cited (referred to)
More often a piece of research is cited by others, more influential it is.
More highly cited research papers a university publishes, stronger its
research output is considered.
QS collects all this info by Scopus
Total citation count is assessed in relation to the numbers of academic
faculty members at the university.

9. BENEFITS OF ACCREDITATION
Helps the Institution to know its strengths, weaknesses and
opportunities.
Initiates Institutions into innovative and modern methods of
pedagogy
Gives Institutions a new sense of direction and identity
Provides society with reliable information on quality of education
offered.
Promotes intra and inter-Institutional interactions.
12. Identification of Referred journal
Indexing
Impact factor
Publisher
The term academic journal applies to scholarly publications in all fields; this article
discusses the aspects common to all academic field journals.
Articles in scientific journals are mostly written by active scientists such as students,
researchers and professors instead of professional journalists.
13. Indexed journal means those journals indexed by secondary services, for
different subjects there are different abstracting and indexing services.
For example Pubmed is one for biomedical journals.
Why is indexing essential?
Indexing will help your journal achieve its main purpose of being accessible to
a wide audience.
Being accessible in turn will improve your journal’s reputation as a reliable
source of high-quality information in your field.
Database research is the first activity researchers undertake as part of their
study, and they naturally look to established, well-known databases. Thus,
being indexed in a known database in your field will help increase your
journal’s readership.
Indexing
14. Once a journal is indexed by a database, it is immediately made available to all
users of that database.
Some databases index titles, some index full articles while some others index only
the abstract and/or references.
Main index to be considered for a referred Science and Engineering journal:
Given by Clarivate analytics
SCI(Science citation index) / SCIE (Science citation index Expanded)
Given by Elsevier
Scopus
How does indexing work?

17. The Impact Factor is calculated by dividing the number of citations in the JCR
year by the total number of articles published in the two previous years.
The impact factor (IF) or journal impact factor (JIF) of an academic journal is a
measure reflecting the yearly average number of citations to recent articles
published in that journal.

19. Journal Paper - Classification
Original Research Article
This is the most common type of journal manuscript used to publish full
reports of data from research. It may be called an Original Article, Research
Article, Research, or just Article, depending on the journal.
The Original Research format is suitable for many different fields and
different types of studies.
It includes full Introduction, Methods, Results, and Discussion sections.
any new findings and new work carried out by one.
Word Limitations - should around 3000-5000 words
Paper evaluated by 2 or 3 reviewers
20. These papers communicate brief reports of data from original research that
editors believe will be interesting to many researchers, and that will likely
stimulate further research in the field.
As they are relatively short the format is useful for scientists with results that are
time sensitive (for example, those in highly competitive or quickly-changing
disciplines).
This format often has strict length limits, so some experimental details may not
be published until the authors write a full Original Researchm anuscript. These
papers are also sometimes called Brief communications. any new work done on
the new area
Paper will be evaluated mostly by one Potential reviewer –
Word Limitations mostly - 1500 words
Short communication
21. Review Articles provide a comprehensive summary of research on a certain
topic, and a perspective on the state of the field and where it is heading.
They are often written by leaders in a particular discipline after invitation from
the editors of a journal.
Reviews are often widely read (for example, by researchers looking for a full
introduction to a field) and highly cited.
Reviews commonly cite approximately 100 primary research articles.
It contains all consolidated form of information in one particular area
Word Limitations - 7500 words, It may have more citation in future
Review Article
22. Review article
A review article is an article that summarizes the current state of
understanding on a topic.
A review article surveys and summarizes previously published studies,
rather than reporting new facts or analysis.
Review articles are sometimes also called survey articles or, in news
publishing, overview articles.
Review articles teach about:
the main people working in a field
recent major advances and discoveries
significant gaps in the research
current debates and ideas of where research might go next
23. Case study
These articles report specific instances of interesting phenomena.
A goal of Case Studies is to make other researchers aware of the possibility
that a specific phenomenon might occur.
This type of study is often used in medicine to report the occurrence of
previously unknown or emerging pathologies.
Methodologies or Methods
These articles present a new experimental method, test or procedure.
The method described may either be completely new, or may offer a better
version of an existing method.
The article should describe a demonstrable advance on what is currently
available.
