Causes of Epilepsy
• Developmental anomalies:
• Damage occurring to the brain as it develops
during the first three months of pregnancy.
• Head Injury
• Head injuries can cause seizures. If the injury
is severe the seizures may not begin until
years later. If the injury is mild the risk is
slight.

• Infarcts and hemorrhages:
• Blood clots (infarcts) and hemorrhages in the
brain , about 10 per cent of all brain infarcts
cause epilepsy.
• Genetic factors.

• Exposure to carbon monoxide and chemicals.
• Use of street drugs and alcohol.
• Lack of sleep, stress, or hormonal changes.
• Withdrawal from certain antidepressant and
anti-anxiety drugs.
