2. Five Steps for Biblical Journaling
#1: Reading the Bible
Begin by reading a passage from the
Bible, following the “Follow the Bible”
book mark schedule.
You will complete reading and
journaling the entire bible in one year
at this pace.
3. #2: Responding to the Word
Select one or two verses from your
reading for the day that speaks to your
heart, and connects to what you’re
experiencing in your daily life in some
way.
Write down the actual verse or verses
at the top of a bank page in your
journal.
4. Write in your own words what the verse or the
verses are saying.
Remember that you are simply writing in your
own words what the Bible is saying. Try to
use some different words other than what is
written in your translation of the Bible.
Thoughtfully reflect on the words or phrases
used in the scripture, and find other words for
them that expand their meaning.
5. #4: Applying Biblical Truth to Your Life
Write down your thoughts about how this portion of
scripture applies to your life today.
Ask:
“What do I believe God is saying to me through
these verses?”
“How will I be different because of what God has
shown me?”
In what areas of my life do I desire to be challenged
and transformed because of the principles I’ve read
and reflected upon?”
6. #5: SPEAKING TO GOD ABOUT WHAT
I’VE LEARNED
Conclude by writing a prayer to
God about what you’ve learned in
this time of devotion, asking for
God’s help in living faithfully each
day.
Pray specifically to what you have
seen in the scripture passage for
today.
