A young man hired by a supermar-
ket reported for his first day of
work. The manager greeted him
with a warm handshake and a
smile, gave him a broom, and said,
"Your first job will be to sweep
out the store."
"But I'm a college graduate," the
young man replied indignantly.
"Oh, I'm sorry. I didn't know that,"
said the manager. "Here, give me
the broom -- I'll show you how."
An older, white haired man walked
into a jewellery store one Friday
evening with a beautiful young
woman at his side. He told the
jeweller he was looking for a spe-
cial ring for his girlfriend.
The jeweller looked through his
stock and brought out a €5,000
ring and showed it to him. The old
man said, "I don't think you under-
stand, I want something very spe-
cial."
At that statement, the jeweller
went to his special stock and
brought another ring over.
"Here's a stunning ring at only
€40,000," the jeweller said. The
young lady's eyes sparkled and her
whole body trembled with excite-
ment. The old man seeing this
said, "We'll take it."
The jeweller asked how payment
would be made and the old man
stated, by check. " I know you
need to make sure my check is
good, so I'll write it now and you
can call the bank Monday to verify
the funds and I'll pick the ring up
Monday afternoon," he said.
Monday morning, a very teed-off
jeweller phoned the old man.
"There's no money in that ac-
count."
"I know", said the old man, "but
can you just imagine the weekend
I had?"
A very drunk man turns up at his
house at 6 o'clock in the morning
with his hair and clothes dishev-
elled. His long suffering wife, who
has been waiting up all night,
shouts at him furiously, "I hope
you have a good reason for getting
home blind drunk at this time of
the morning!"
"Yes," replied the man, "I'd like
some breakfast!"
Two neighbours were talking
about work, when one asked, "Say,
why did the foreman fire you?"
Replied the second, "Well, you
know how a foreman is always
standing around and watching oth-
ers do the work. My foreman got
jealous. People started thinking I
was the foreman."
A DEA Agent stopped at a ranch
in Texas and talked to an old
rancher. He told the rancher, "I
need to inspect your ranch for ille-
gally grown drugs." The rancher
said, "okay, but don't go into that
field over there...", as he pointed
out the location. The DEA Agent
verbally exploded and said, "look
mister, I have the authority of the
federal government with me!"
Reaching into his rear back pocket,
the arrogant officer removed his
badge and proudly displayed it to
the rancher. "See this badge?! This
badge means I can go wherever I
want... On any land! No questions
asked, no answers given! Do you
understand old man?!"
The rancher kindly nodded, apolo-
gized, and went about his chores.
Moments later the rancher heard
loud screams, he looked up and
saw the DEA agent running for his
life, being chased by the ranchers
big Bull...... With every step the
bull was gaining ground on the
officer, and it was likely that he'd
sure enough get gored before he
reached safety. The officer was
clearly terrified. The old rancher
threw down his tools, ran as fast as
he could to the fence, and yelled at
the top of his lungs......
"YOUR BADGE! SHOW HIM
YOUR BADGE!"
A wealthy investor walked into a
bank and said to the bank manager,
"I would like to speak with Mr.
Reginald Jones, who I understand
is a tried and trusted employee of
yours."
The banker said, "Yes he certainly
was trusted. And he will be tried as
soon as we catch him."

New Self Storage Facility in Nenagh
Arising from the recent merger of North
and South Tipperary and focussing on
the need to create job opportunities in
the county, the Local Enterprise Office
in Tipperary has commenced a review
of available workspace across the Coun-
ty. The review will determine work-
space availability in the unified
Tipperary and culminate in a register of
vacant industrial properties which will
become a valuable marketing resource
and property identification solution for
new and existing entrepreneurs both
within and outside of Tipperary. The
study will focus on all types of work-
space ranging from “Hot Desks” to
Technology Centres, Food Grade Work-
space, Light Industrial Units right up to
Advance factories.
The review / audit will identify work-
space in both public and private owner-
ship and analyse the type and scale of
facilities available for lease or purchase
across the County. The review is being
undertaken by Mr Anthony Fitzgerald
based in the Business Support Unit of
the Local Authority in Ballingarrane
House Clonmel in conjunction with the
newly established Local Enterprise Of-
fice. The review will involve contacting
Auctioneers, Chambers of Commerce,
the Local Authority, IDA, Airport Au-
thority, Institute of Technology, Com-
munity owned Enterprise Centres etc to
establish what space is vacant at this
time, the cost per sq. metre, length and
term of tenancy available, location and
quality of the site etc.
Property owners are asked to contact the
Local Enterprise Office (Nenagh or
Clonmel) leo@tipperarycoco.ie to ad-
vise if they have space available or un-
der construction for sale or lease. It is
expected that the review will take a
month to complete and the outcome of
the survey will be mapped across Tip-
perary. An expected benefit of the study
is that it will highlight deficit pockets in
the County which in turn might support
a business case for seeking investment
in workspace in Tipperary and where
demand for such space has been estab-
lished.
The findings or property listing will be
maintained and made available to entre-
preneurs both inside and outside Tipper-
ary by the Local Enterprise Office. If

Fund for Graduates from Enterprise
Ireland to support start up businesses
– Minister Bruton
The Minister for Jobs, Enterprise and
Innovation, Richard Bruton TD, has
launched a new €500,000 Enterprise
Ireland Competitive Start Fund tar-
geted at stimulating new start-up
business activity for graduates. This
fund will provide for up to €50,000 in
support for each successful applicant.
The fund will open for applications
on Wednesday 9th July and closes at
3pm on Wednesday 23rd July 2014.
Applicants must have graduated with
a FETAC level 8 qualification in the
last 3 years.
Young entrepreneurs and third level
students are a seed bed for future
business start-ups and as such they
should be part of Ireland getting back
on its feet, and the drive to stimulate
more micro and small business activi-
ty.
Today’s announcement forms part of
a broader strategy, laid out in the
Government’s Action Plan for Jobs,
aimed at encouraging a higher level
of entrepreneurship and start-ups. In
recent weeks the Government an-
nounced a new county-based compe-
tition to find Ireland’s Best Young
Entrepreneur, with a total of
€2million available to invest in win-
ning businesses.
This €500,000 Competitive Start
Fund for graduates will help start up
and early stage companies to get off
the ground and launch new products
and services in the international mar-
ketplace. The priority of the Fund is
to provide graduates with the critical
early stage funding for the key com-
mercial and technical milestones that
will ensure delivery of their product
or service, and help them get their
project to a key funding milestone.
Applications are welcome from Man-
ufacturing & Internationally Traded
Services sector to start up businesses
involved in activities such as Internet,
Games, Apps, Mobile, SaaS, Cloud
Computing, Enterprise Software,
Lifesciences, Food, Cleantech and
Industrial Products.
Announcing the fund, Minister Bru-
ton said: “In Ireland we have great
entrepreneurs and start-up businesses
- we just don’t have enough of them.
That is why we have specifically tar-
geted, as part of our Action Plan for
Jobs, an improved performance in
this area, by putting in measures like
the new county-based competition to
find Ireland’s Best Young Entrepre-
neur. The fund we are announcing
today will provide investment of up
to €50,000 for businesses run by
graduates, and is aimed at encourag-
ing more graduates to consider entre-
preneurship as a career choice. I urge
any graduate with a good business
idea to get involved”.

What others say about ‘The Rub’
The Taoiseach and the Minister for Jobs,
Enterprise and Innovation launched a
new competition to find Ireland’s Best
Young Entrepreneur on Thursday last,
with a total fund of €2million available to
invest in winning businesses and entre-
preneurs in every county in the country.
The IBYE competition is a national com-
petition to find Ireland’s best young en-
trepreneur.
In Tipperary, the competition to find the
county’s Best Young Entrepreneur will
be run by the new Local Enterprise Of-
fice. Winners will be named in three
categories – best new idea, best start-up,
best new venture for established business
– as well as an overall winner who will be
awarded the title of “Tipperary’s Best
Young Entrepreneur”.
The Local Enterprise Office has been
provided with a fund of €50,000 to invest
in the three winning businesses, accord-
ing to competition criteria, business pros-
pects and investment needs of the
winning businesses. The overall winner
of Tipperary ’s Best Young Entrepreneur
may receive an investment of up to
€25,000. Mentoring, marketing and other
supports will also be available to partici-
pating businesses at various stages
throughout the competition.
The competition is open to individuals
aged 30 and under and will be judged
under three distinct categories:
best new idea
best start-up business
best established business with new add-on
The first stage will be a county-based
competition (run by the 31 LEOs) leading
to the naming of the Best Young Entre-
preneur in each county. This stage will
include boot camps and mentoring pro-
grammes. This will be followed by re-
gional finals and ultimately national
finals with one business-person being
crowned Ireland’s Best Young Entrepre-
neur before the end of the year.
There have been expressions of interest
from television production companies on
the possibility of covering the later stages
of the competition in a reality TV format.
This project is an integral part of the
Action Plan for Jobs 2014 and is support-
ed by the Department of Jobs, Enterprise
and Innovation through the Local Enter-

has been successfully using yoga in
the rehabilitation of injured players
and patients in both of Premier Coun-
ty's Clinics (Thurles & Templemore)
for many years. More recently, we
have non-injured players, athletes and
more sedentary individuals seeking
one to one Yoga for various different
personal reasons, and to date we are
successfully reaching our objectives
for each individual.
Many sports people are also imple-
menting Pilates exercises as an inte-
gral part of their
fitness programmes.
The benefits of Pi-
lates result in im-
proved performance,
more efficient techniques, correction
of abnormal strategies and reduced
injury rates.
How does Pilates do this? The Pilates
approach zones in on correct muscle
recruitment for functional movements.
Each sport has key patterns of move-
ments which must be integrated and
performed correctly to achieve opti-
mum performance. Pilates refocuses
on the correct recruitment, negating
muscle imbalances that have been pre-
viously created. This results in im-
proved alignment, correct firing of
muscles at the right time in the move-
ment pattern and therefore the pre-
formance is directly affected while
also reducing unnecessary on the ath-
lete or players body.
Pilates is now being used extensively
and successfully by many amateur and
professional sports people.

The photo above shows Ballagh NS children enjoying a recent county col-
ours day. A number of children from Ballagh NS qualified for the Munster
Final of Mathletes. Since February the children from Ballagh have been
competing in a national competition to find Ireland's top mathletes. Mat-
thew Cullen and Christian Cullen were crowned Munster Champions for
5th and 6th Class. Tommy Ryan qualified for the All Ireland Final to repre-
sent Ballagh and Tipperary. Since Matheletes was launched over 3000 stu-
dents have competed in this competition which uses the Khan Acedemy
learning and teaching maths.

Templemore College – Expanding Horizons
Templemore College has, for many
years now, successfully prepared large
numbers of students to undertake work
experience placements abroad. This
year 15 of our graduate students are
traveling to Spain and France for
three-weeks in June to gain valuable
work experience in their chosen ca-
reers.
Conscious of increasing globalisation
of all industry sectors, the college has
for many years been an accredited
centre for the EU Leonardo Da Vinci
Programme. This EU-funded pro-
gramme aims to increase the employa-
bility and language skills of European
students by exchanging good practices
regarding the vocational training and
learning needs across all industry sec-
tors.
And the good news for the future is
that Templemore College is hopeful of
receiving continued funding under the
new Erasmus Plus programme, to send
more of its students to work overseas
in the coming year.

perchurch on Thursday 1st May (along with the
new Visitor Information Point and the Bog Walk).
The new indoor climbing and bouldering wall is
the only indoor climbing and bouldering wall in
Tipperary and was the brainchild of the Upper-
church Drombane Development Association. Vol-
unteers supervisors photographed outside Upper
Limits Climbing Wall in Upperchurch. The centre
is open every Wednesday and Thursday evening
from 7pm to 9.30 pm and on Saturday mornings
from 10am to 12.30. The centre also caters for
birthday parties and celebrations outside these
times. All equipment is provided and it only cost
€7 per person for the 2.5hr session. No experience
is necessary. Bookings are required so please call

Anxiety. How to touch your inner child
(contd.). Sleeplessness as a contributor
to anxiety.
There are several techniques for touching
the inner child. One useful book to help
you understand this concept is Recovery
of Your Inner Child by Lucia Capachione.
Lucia is an art therapist and explains very
well what the inner child means. There are
many exercises in the book. These are
mainly written dialogues between the
adult and the child. They are very simple,
and I use them on myself sometimes. The
adult writes in his or her dominant hand
and the child replies in his or her non-
dominant hand, resulting in childish scrib-
ble. These can be very powerful. If the
adult (inner parent) is loving, the child,
perhaps for the first time, hears words
such as ‘I love you. I will take care of
you’. It is best to do this exercise in a
counselling session, because we do not
know what will arise.
Another technique is to write a letter to
the inner child, and the child replies. I
always ask people to draw the child’s face
as they see it. If the angry child emerges,
allow it to express its anger, empathise
with it, love it, and find out the object of
the child’s anger.
Edmund Bourne has a nice visualisation
as a technique for touching your inner
child (pages 282-283). Getting to know
your inner child, talking to him or her as
often as possible is very healing, especial-
ly for adults who have been abused as
children. When doing these exercises it is
always important to note how your body
is reacting. If your stomach begins to turn,
your head begins to ache, or your chest
tightens, it is a sign that the exercises are
not safe. In such circumstances, a coun-
sellor’s room would be preferable to do-
ing it on your own. One of the roles of the
counsellor is to keep his client safe.
Sleeplessness as a contributor to anxie-
ty.
Sleep is the time we give our bodies to
rest, and during that time we go through
different stages – drowsiness, light sleep,
deep sleep, dreaming (rapid eye move-
ment REM sleep). Deep sleep comes ear-
lier in the night and is crucial to feeling
refreshed next day and to our sense of
well-being. REM sleep allows us to proc-
ess stuff that has not been adequately
dealt with the previous day.
If sleeping soundly is so vital to our sense
of well being, it is no wonder that sleep-
lessness can cause of anxiety. It is a vi-
cious cycle, too, because anxiety itself can
cause sleeplessness. Of all the wide-rang-
ing causes of anxiety insomnia is a very
widespread problem. It is reckoned that
from 30% to 50% of people may suffer
from it at one time or another, and about
10% of people suffer chronic (ongoing)
insomnia.
Insomnia is defined by the English NHS
as ‘difficulty getting to sleep or staying
asleep for long enough to feel refreshed
the next morning, even though you have
had enough opportunity to sleep’. Suffer-
ers wake up periodically during the night,
or wake up early in the morning and are
unable to go back to sleep. They feel tired
and irritable throughout the day. This can
be damaging to relationships at home and
outside.
Sleep experts tell us that there are three
types of insomnia – learned, chronic and
primary. Learned insomnia (Psycho Phys-
iological Insomnia –PPI) is simply insom-
nia that arouses our anxiety. In other
words, if we sleep badly we may begin to
worry about not being able to function
during the day, and we may try harder to
sleep at night thus making our insomnia
worse. if we continue worrying about
sleeping we may become over aroused
about sleeping, and, for example, normal
bedroom activities such as making the
bed, changing the bedclothes, putting on
our pyjamas, turning off the light, and so
on, can trigger insomnia. In short, learned
insomnia associates the bedroom with
sleeplessness rather than sleep. This is
real anxiety-arousing insomnia, and is a
vicious circle. Chronic insomnia is ongo-
ing insomnia, and primary insomnia is
insomnia that is not caused by any physi-
cal or mental condition.
