Learning from Art at The Source Thurles
LEARNING FROM ART is an exhibition
illustrating the work of young people between the ages of 5 to 18 from 32 counties
in Ireland. The concept behind LEARNING FROM ART is the process that takes
place when art becomes the catalyst for
both learning and creativity. The aim of
the exhibition is to encourage young people to be curious and creative by using
their national collection as a source of inspiration – to learn something about art
while partaking in their own creative process.

The Donkey in the Well
One day a farmer's donkey fell down
into a well. The animal cried piteously for hours as the farmer tried to figure out what to do. Finally, he
decided the animal was old, and the
well needed to be covered up anyway; it just wasn't worth it to retrieve
the donkey. He invited all his neighbours to come over and help him.
They all grabbed a shovel and began
to shovel dirt into the well. At first,
the donkey realized what was happening and cried horribly. Then, to
everyone's amazement he quieted
down. A few shovel loads later, the
farmer finally looked down the well.
He was astonished at what he saw.
With each shovel of dirt that hit his
back, the donkey was doing something amazing. He would shake it off
and take a step up. As the farmer's

Bruckana Consultation on Community Benefits
Bord na Móna is constructing a new wind farm at Bruckana and has decided to
set up a project-benefit-scheme aimed at the communities around this new
development. This project-benefit-scheme will complement the existing
consequential benefits
of the development such as employment and rates to local authorities and it is
envisaged that the scheme will be funded by an annual contribution from the
wind farm over its operational life.
In order to establish a benefit structure that meets community needs, Bord na

an alarming problem in our country.
Services are there to help but are they
good enough?

The SPEAK UP CAFÉ initiative is
being organised to involve individuals
who have been affected by domestic
abuse and/or sexual violence to come
and tell organisations as to how services can be improved.
The SPEAK UP CAFÉ events are part
of a wide range of initiatives undertaken by the Mid West Regional Advisory Committee on Violence
Against Women and local agencies
during the 16 Days of Action Campaign. The 16 Days of Action Campaign is an international campaign to
raise awareness of the reality of domestic abuse and violence and to push
for positive
change to increase women's
safety.
The SPEAK
UP CAFÉ is
open to individuals who
have experienced domestic
abuse and/or
sexual violence
either currently
or in the past.
It is open to
family members and close
friends who
may be living
with or supporting survivors. It is also
aimed at those

who may not have accessed a service
but could have potentially benefited
from doing so.
The SPEAK UP CAFÉ model is built
on the assumption that people already
have within them the wisdom and expertise to advise organisations as to
what’s important when dealing with a
crisis or on-going problems related to
domestic abuse and /or sexual violence. The organisers believe that by
listening to what the public and service users say is essential if organisations genuinely wish to improve
services. The changes will make services more relevant, of a higher quality
and which staff are proud to provide.
If you who would like to voice your
opinion at one of these events, just
drop in to a SPEAK UP CAFÉ in either Limerick, Ennis or Nenagh and
you can meet informally with a representative of an organisation and chat
with others with similar experiences.

Correct Inflation Pressure
Inflation pressure is important, as the
pressurised air inside your tyre has to support the weight of your vehicle and its
load. Tyre pressures may vary depending
on the vehicle model and the load being
carried.
We recommend that you check your tyre
pressures regularly against the manufacturer’s specifications for your vehicle (refer to your owners handbook) at your
local service station.
Wheel Alignment & Balancing
You may hear the terms ‘wheel alignment’ and ‘wheel balancing’ used interchangeably, but they are separate issues,
both important in the upkeep of your tyres
and vehicle.
Wheel alignment consists of adjusting the
angles of the wheels so that they are perpendicular to the ground and parallel to
each other. Aligning your wheels can help
maximise tyre life and ensure that your
vehicle drives straight and true when on
level surfaces.
The symptoms of a misaligned wheel
include:
uneven or rapid tyre wear
pulling or drifting away from a straight
line
drifting on a straight, level road
spokes of the steering wheel tending toward one side while driving on a straight,
level road
Wheel balancing allows the tyres and
wheels to spin without causing any vibrations. Your wheels’ balance is gauged by
checking for any heavy spots on the
wheel-tyre combination and compensating for such flaws by placing a measured
balancing weight on the opposite side of
the wheel from where the heavy spot is
located.
The symptoms of a wheel that is out of
balance include:

Tipperary’s newest sporting
facility named
The new climbing and bouldering
gym in Upperchurch was recently
named after a school competition
held throughout October. Primary
and secondary schools across the
county Tipperary were invited to
come up with an exciting name for
the new facility and the centre was
inundated with hundreds of entries.
The team behind the wall were
amazed at the quality of names submitted and it took considerable time
to choose the best name. The new
facility has now been named ‘Upper
Limits’ – as it reflects Upperchurch
(being a bit on the Upper side!) and
the climbing as well as showcasing
the experience that can be had by all
at the climbing wall. The team in
Upperchurch are delighted with the
new name and want to say a big
thank you to the hundreds of children who submitted brilliant names.

Series 4, no. 15. Anxiety. Visualisation of your inner wisdom (continued). Transcendental Meditation.
Now look back toward the entrance
to your sanctuary, and imagine that
you begin to see or sense or feel the
presence of a very wise being who is
about to enter. This wise being could
be a man or a woman, a child or an
animal. Or it might be a colour or a
spiritual presence..
Begin to feel or picture or sense this
wise being as it steps through the
entrance to your sanctuary and begin
to move toward you..See or feel how
old or how young, how big or how
small.. How this wise being moves,
how he or she is dressed if it’s a
person... most importantly, feel the
energy of this wise being as it moves
toward you...
As it comes closer, greet the wise
being in any way that feels appropriate to you...trust your own feelings.
Allow the wise being to greet you and
make contact. You can make contact
through words or energetically, mentally, through touch, or in any way
that feels right for you. Know that
this wise being is here to serve you,
to help you in whatever way you
need...
The wise being may have a message
for you, so ask now if it has something to tell you, in words or in any
other way, something to remind you
of, or to let you know. And then be
open to hearing or sensing or feeling
what the message is...if there is something you especially need or want,
ask for it, whether it be some words
of wisdom or some loving support –
whatever it may be, go ahead and ask
... let yourself receive the response
that this wise being gives to you...
Now continue to be together in whatever way feels good to you... you may
wish to be together without words, or
you may want to talk ...allow yourself
to receive and fully enjoy this experience. And when you feel ready, complete your contact in whatever way
you desire for right now...
If you want to keep the wise being
with you in the sanctuary, you can do
that. If it feels right for the wise being
to leave the sanctuary, if you feel
complete with your experience for
now, then say good-bye and imagine
this being moving back up the path
and out of the sanctuary.. But, know
that any time you want to, you can
come to this sanctuary, you can ask
for your wise being to come and be
with you here, and you can ask whatever questions you have or ask for

whatever support, guidance, love, or
contact you need...
Now once again, look around your
sanctuary..Remember that this is a
place that you can visit any time you
want by closing your eyes, taking a
few deep breaths, and desiring to be
there...
Now say goodbye to your sanctuary
for now and begin to move back up
the path. Feel yourself more and
more alive, energised, and balanced...
Become aware of your body and how
it is feeling now, and become aware
of the room around you...when you
feel ready, very gradually open your
eyes and come back into the room...
You might also consider Transcendental Meditation, which is the one
most commonly practised, and you
will have to pay a ‘teacher’ to learn it.
You will find teachers’ contacts on
the website. TM is a type of mantra
meditation, and was introduced in
India in the 1950s by Maharishi Mahesh Yogi. It is based on the Indian
philosophy and the teachings of
Krishna (Supreme Being of Hinduism), Buddha and other Indian deities. Its main contribution is
relaxation. It is a form of mantra
meditation. A mantra is a word or
sound repeated to aid concentration
in the meditation. Generally, the
mantra has no meaning, but some
teachers select a mantra for each individual ‘student’. One common sound
used is ‘Om’, ‘Aum’ or ‘Hum’.
Learning TM is usually in seven stages – two introductory lectures, an
interview, and four two-hour long
instruction sessions. This short
course can be quite expensive.
