2. What is Surface Computing
•Surface computing is a form of computing
that offers a natural way of interacting with
information rather than traditional user
interface.
•Surface Computing is a new way of working
with the computers that move beyond the
mouse and keyboard experience.
•It is a natural user interface that allows
people to interact with digital content the
same way they have interacted with everyday
objects.
3. Features of Surface Computing
Direct Interaction:
The ability to ”grab” digital information with
hands-interacting with touch gestures not
with the mouse or keyboard
Multi-User :
The surface screen is vertical allowing many
people to come together and experience a
collaborative, face-to-face computing experience
Multi-Touch:
The ability to recognise multiple points of contact
at the same time not just one
(ex. one finger like, with most touch screens) but dozens.
Object Recognition:
Physical objects can be placed on surface’s
screen to trigger different types of
digital responses(ex. cell phone, camera, glass of wine).
5. INTRODUCTION-
Microsoft Surface Hub is surface-series interactive whiteboard
announced by Microsoft on 21 January 2015 at the Windows 10 Event in
Redmond. It is a wall- or roller stand-mounted device with a 84 inches
(210 cm) 120 Hz 4K or 55 inches (140 cm) 1080p multi-touch and multi-
pen touch screen, running the Windows 10 operating system. It is
targeted for businesses to use for collaboration and videoconferencing.
•Unlock the power of the group with Microsoft Surface Hub, a powerful
team collaboration device designed to advance the way people work
together naturally.
•Microsoft Surface Hub re-images the meeting experience so that you can
unlock the power of the group. You can walk up and join a Skype for
Business meeting with a single tap, and share content effortlessly, so that
you spend your time connecting to people rather than technology. And
since you can easily send meeting notes and content, you can
communicate outcomes and action points.
6. Feature of Microsoft Surface Hub
1) OneNote white board: The OneNote-based Whiteboard tool feels
as natural to write on as traditional whiteboard. But it also lets you
bring rich, multimedia data into the conversation, makes it easy to
share work and ideas when the meeting is over and lets you quickly
start where you left off in future conversations
2) Take your Ideas with you: Save your whiteboard as a rich
OneNote file and email it to others so your ideas don’t evaporate
when the meeting ends
3) Team work: Surface Hub provides a platform to build amazing
large-screen apps for group productivity. Microsoft productivity
apps like Office and Skype for Business are built in. And with native
support for touch, ink and sensors, the hardware will also enable
third party developers to develop beautiful, powerful, immersive
applications that light up on the big screen and enable groups to
be productive together
4) Fluid, natural ink: The ink on Microsoft Surface Hub is so fluid
and responsive that it feels just like a pen on paper—and it lets two
people ink at the same time.
5) Connected: Microsoft Surface Hub offers a variety of inputs
including wireless projection, HDMI, NFC, Bluetooth, and ports to
connect to peripheral devices.
7. Technologies used in Surface hub:
A. Pen computing:-A responsive and natural inking experience that feels
as fluid as a pen on paper.
B. Touch:-Advanced touch capabilities recognize up to 100 touch points
with precision, allowing multiple people to interact with the screen
simultaneously.
C. Windows 10:-A new experience for Windows 10 that is tailored for
group use, with ink and touch at its core. Many applications can be
used without authentication.
D.Cortana:-Cortana is an intelligent personal assistant developed by
Microsoft. Cortana features include being able to recognise the natural
voice without the user having to input a predefined series of commands
and answer questions using information from bing.
E. NUI:-NUI stands for Natural User Interface. A NUI relies on a user
being able to quickly transition from inexperienced to expert. The word
“natural” refers to a goal in the user experience – that the interaction
comes naturally, while interacting with the technology, rather than that
the interface itself is natural. This is contrasted with the idea of an
intuitive interface, referring to one that can be used without previous
learning.
