16. Putaway
Task Driven Putaway – Rapid process for putaway with the system directing teams to the most
efficient tasks.
Automated putaway – these streamline your processes to fit with your business needs and
maintain an accurate sequence of material storage inside the warehouse. Local operator
knowledge is no longer essential, minimising the training overhead.
Walk sequences optimise all travel routes around your warehouse ensuring that your team makes
the most efficient use of time.
Operator control functions – features on operator handheld devices provide you with maximum
flexibility and utilise operator knowledge where appropriate. Operators feel more in control and
work with greater efficiency and throughput.
Supervisor management – All supervisors gain real-time visibility of warehouse work activity. The
feature distinguishes work waiting to be started from work-in-progress, allowing team leaders to
prioritise appropriately, based on business need.

be highly costly and unnecessarily complex.

via the Cloud, allowing them to efficiently manage

28. New Handheld Technology
With some of Waer ‘s customers already using Nexus tablets, a member of (their
customer) WBC’s office staff suggested replacing the terminals in the outbound team
with Moto G phones – a mobile with a decent, 4 ½ inch (11.4cm) screen.
In addition, matchbox-sized Motorola CS3070 scanners were introduced which connect to
the devices via Bluetooth, at a fraction of the cost of the original terminals. More
importantly, they work. Really well. Wi-Fi connection is consistent, and they are easy to
use, super-fast and very, very neat.
This frankly brilliant suggestion from WBC’s Matt Wallis could have fallen flat on its face if
WAERlinx hadn’t been the flexible solution it is. It is testament to the team at Waer and
their ‘can-do’ attitude that they were able to make some changes to enable the phones
and scanners to work with the WMS, freeing up time and resources, not to mention
significantly improving frustration levels at the warehouse.
