Abstract
David Peters is an intelligent, quick learning, team player who is looking for an opportunity to
use his broad skill set and talents in a challenging position to help an excellent company excel
even more. At work he has a record of success when faced with new responsibilities, positions,
skills, and problems, whether working independently or as part of team. He is highly educated in
a number of different academic disciplines and skills including multiple research styles. He
communicates and teaches from his breadth of knowledge and experience well both verbally and
in writing. David is eager to put his breadth of skills, knowledge, and wide variety of experiences
to good use in a new challenging position where he hopes to continue to learn and grow.
Outline of Skills
Intelligence: His friends, peers, and managers describe him often as intelligent. He quickly learns and
understands new information and is able to place it in a larger context allowing him to see new connections,
produce new ideas, develop more effective and efficient methods, and quickly solve difficult problems
creatively.
Communicating: David is a thoughtful extrovert who naturally communicates verbally and in writing
clearly and eloquently. This skill has been fine tuned and expanded to include intercultural communication.1
David especially excels in tailoring explanations and information in terms and manners that are the most
conducive, respectful, and appropriate for the other participants in the discussion.
Teaching: David began teaching at an early age excelling at tailoring the information to different
audiences so that it is easy to understand as well as interesting.2
He continues to develop this skill through
work as a substitute teacher, a tutor, and in day to day conversations with friends and co-workers when
discussing a variety of topics.
Researching: Research is something that David comes by naturally due to his passion for learning and
curiosity. He is trained in statistical research using SPSS as well as the long hand calculations and has put
this skill to use in the creation, execution, and analysis of multiple experiments. He is also trained in
historical research including the analysis of 18th
century documents.3
Project Management: Whether managing an individual project such as his dissertation or the creation,
documentation, and installation of an off site data center, David has the skills and experience to accomplish
the goal in the time required through proper planning and an understanding of the people and resources he
1
David worked in a very diverse office filled with many foreign nationals and co-workers from a number of
different cultural backgrounds, where he was known as the interdepartmental liaison for the IT department.
He also has travelled extensively and lived abroad during his studies.
2
David began teaching a Monday night Karate class at age 11. He later ran a youth group in high school
and helped as a leader in several others. He later TA’ed briefly, substitute taught, and tutored.
3
A copy of one of his Essays on an 18th
century memorandum is on file in the special collections
department of the University of Edinburgh library for use in future research.

is working with.4
Sales and Marketing: According to David sales and marketing work there way through much of life,
whether presenting a project or course of action in front of a committee, his photography in a gallery, coffee
shop, or on-line, or himself in an application, the same sales and marketing skills are required.
Problem solving: Coming from a passion for learning and understanding new things and new people
David is an excellent problem solver. By understanding how something works and how it fits into the bigger
picture he can quickly determine the likely points of failure and progress out logically from them.5
Leadership: David leads by example with understanding and encouragement. He observes and discovers
the skills, strengths, and personalities of each team member and then delegates to their strengths to best
achieve the goal and support and encourage them in the process.6
Writing: David is an excellent writer whether presenting information clearly and concisely for an
academic or professional purpose or telling a story that‘s both interesting and informative.7
Creative: David has always been an artist whether drawing, painting, or these days in his photography.8
While he follows best standards and set practises well, there is always room for improvement and a new
way of looking at every task and the means to achieve every goal.
Adaptable: Flexibility is essential to stay current with changing trends and ideas and David has shown
this adaptability time again adapting to a new culture and academic tradition in Scotland or different work
environments and responsibilities.

Work
4
During his time in IT David saw many projects through, from planning, to change management approval,
and then to completion. He applied these skills to his dissertation allowing him to complete it a month
ahead of schedule. He also has experience with this in his personal travels, which have taught him to be
flexible and adapt quickly to unexpected difficulties beyond his control.
5
The complexity of the network that he helped manage and the lack of down time available made problem
solving quickly a necessity. He has used this skill travelling as well.
6
David has taken outdoor leadership classes and used his skills in emergency situations while hiking. He
has also used these skills in planning group trips as well as in the classroom and in running youth events.
7
He maintains this skill by writing a blog often relating personal stories to deeper lessons or current events.
