Thank you for inviting us in today. I'd like to share with you a quick overview of the Oracle Database Appliance. It is purpose built to run Oracle Database and Oracle Applications.
I have to share our safe harbor statement as we'll be touching on futures
For most IT shops, the databases – and the applications that use them – are incredibly important, perhaps more so than other parts of IT.
Databases tend to hold the organization’s most important information. They power the applications that the business really cares about. For many, supporting databases represent a big chunk of the overall IT spend.
Logically speaking, database infrastructure represents an excellent opportunity for optimization
Customers will re-think how to manage their databases and applications asking for more simplicity, optimization and affordability
Trying to build your own system isn’t always the answer. Especially if you have lack of on-site database expertise. Managing, maintaining and supporting can be tedious, not to mention keeping up with multiple patches from multiple vendors. What’s more, as budgets get slashed, businesses are having to do more with less, and the move to the cloud is on, who will you navigate the path to cloud?
Simple put…..using generic hardware from many vendors equals generic results.

Is it the Oracle Database Appliance, which is a complete system of servers, OS, storage and networking. You gain speedy deployment, save on licensing with Capacity on Demand, all at an affordable entry level price. What’s more Oracle can help guide you from on-premise to Oracle’s public cloud, which is all supported by one company, Oracle.
The Oracle Database Appliance is simple, optimized and affordable for all organizations.
So, here’s how the Oracle Database Appliance fits in.
Oracle Database Appliance was designed to bring simplicity, optimization, and affordability to your Oracle Database environments. The first Oracle Database Appliance was shipped in 2011, and since then, it has been adopted by thousands of users, and put to work in all industries around the world.
Oracle Database Appliance is purpose-built, specifically to run your Oracle Database and applications. It's fully integrated, which means it saves you time, effort, and cost throughout its entire lifecycle. It was created by a single team of hardware and software developers with a mission—to create an appliance to ease the deployment and the operations of your Oracle Database and applications.
In fact, not only can Oracle Database Appliance be deployed in as little as 30-to-90 minutes, maintenance is dramatically simplified, with patching taken care of automatically every quarter. It's built by Oracle with industry-standard technology, and everything is supported by Oracle, so if you need help, you have to make only one phone call.
We introduced the new Oracle Database Appliance X6-2 portfolio in 2016. At this time, we launched an entire family of products, including a range of models suitable for organizations of all sizes with various database deployment needs—starting at only 18 thousand dollars. Now, the Oracle Database Appliance portfolio supports everything from single-instance Oracle databases in small organizations, to high-availability Oracle databases for business-critical workloads.
We’ve also added high-performance, all-flash storage, and support for all versions of Oracle Database—Standard Edition as well as Enterprise Edition.
Here’s another way of looking at it.
Instead of integrating multiple technologies from multiple vendors, you simply push the “install” button and get down to business

Instead of coordinating across multiple skills, a typical database administrator can do this by themselves.

Instead of trying to keep up with multiple patches and updates from multiple vendors, Oracle pushes an automated patch bundle every quarter.

And instead of investing many hundreds of hours over three years, you’ll only be spending about 12 hours a year on all the ongoing support tasks. That’s a big difference.
Additional speaker insight
Look at all the complexity of building a solution from multiple vendors.
Lots of pieces to qualify and ensure that they work together and then need to be tuned together. Compare that to the integrated ODA solution.
Need to also consider all the various skills and coordination of people required to build a system from scratch compared to the simplicity of ODA. Many ODA’s are managed by the DBA, some also involve a server administrator, but in any case it is much simpler than building it yourself.
Finally the customer needs to live with the resulting solution. Getting a highly available systems up and running is one level of effort. The customer then needs to keep it running and patched appropriately. Patch qualification of patches from multiple vendors is a big effort and takes time and expertise. With ODA the entire system is patched 4 times a year. Much simpler and results in a more available system at lower cost.

The Oracle Database Appliance offers customers a unique capacity-on-demand licensing model to quickly scale from 2 to 72 processor cores without any hardware upgrades. Customers can deploy the Oracle Database Appliance with as few as 2 processors cores to run their database servers, and incrementally scale up to the maximum of 40 processor cores within the same hardware envelope. This avoids the usual costs and scheduled downtime of a typical hardware upgrade, and enables customers to deliver the performance and high availability that business users demand as they align software spending with business growth.
ODA is a very successful, proven product with 1000’s of systems deployed worldwide across all market segments.
There are hundreds of ISV’s that have qualified their applications on ODA and are part of Oracle’s Exastack partner program, providing additional assurance to customers that their application perform on ODA.
