Design Council Cabe aims for diversity in its recruitment of 150
new Built Environment Experts
9 December 2015 ***FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE***
Design Council Cabe has announced the recruitment of a 150 additional Built Environment Experts
(BEEs), creating a network of 400 design experts the largest and most skilled group of its kind in
the country. The BEEs will work closely with Design Council Cabe to champion design in the built
environment.
Clare Devine, Director of Design Council Cabe, said:
“We have been laying the foundations for our future, building on what we do best, refining and
developing new services, expanding our skills set and building relationships to deliver our
programmes. To support this, we have expanded our BEE network both in its geographical spread
and range of disciplines and skills.”
Design Council Cabe’s BEEs come from a diverse range of professional backgrounds, and include
planners, landscape architects, architects, urban designers, engineers, public health professionals,
community engagement and data specialists.
Devine continued: “This network has an unprecedented breadth of expertise, with specialists in
public health, inclusion, SMART and culture, joining experts in planning and built environment. We
will harness our collective independent expert advice to instigate and foster innovative thinking,
providing advice and support to effect transformational change across all aspects of the built
environment.”
The new BEEs include: Angela Brady OBE, award-winning landscape architect Martha
Schwartz, and Chair of the RIBA Housing Advisory Group, Andy Von Bradsky.
Together, Design Council Cabe and its network of BEEs will provide independent expert advice
and support to promote and support well designed buildings, spaces and places that improve
everyone’s quality of life.

Andy Von Bradsky is an architect with more than 30 years’ experience in the design and delivery of residential development for all

Janet Askew
President of the Royal Town Planning Institute
Former Head of the School of Planning and Architecture University of the West of England, Bristol
Founding member of the International Garden Cities Institute
During her forty-year career in planning, Janet has worked in the public and private sectors, and in academia at the University of the
West of England, Bristol, where she was the Head of the School of Planning and Architecture for many years. She has advised the UK,
Welsh and Dutch governments on planning regulation and implementation of projects, and has recently been appointed to become a
founding member of the International Garden Cities Institute.
Finn Williams
Founder of public sector planning thinktank NOVUS
Founder of independent research practice Common Office
Director and trustee of the Planning Officers Society
Finn is an architect-planner and advocate for design within the public sector. He worked for the Office for Metropolitan Architecture,
General Public Agency, and Croydon Council’s Placemaking team before joining the Greater London Authority, where he is
Regeneration Area Manager for North West London. He currently teaches architecture at the Royal College of Art and urban design at
the Bartlett School of Architecture, and is a co-curator of the British Pavilion at the Venice Architecture Biennale 2016.
