3. Research
• Overall my research went well, firstly the existing product
research went very well as I looked into different types of
products, including one which has the same topic as mine. As
well as showing me differences between different genres this
also gave me ideas for my own show.
• Despite these strengths there were a couple weaknesses of
the research, firstly the audience section of the research. This
was a weakness as most of the parts of it weren’t very
relevant, this is because you don’t have to be of a certain age,
gender or social status to enjoy football.
4. Planning
• Mostly my planning went well, especially the gathering of sound effects
and music to use in my final production. This was a strong part of my
planning as I gathered many different things and used most of them in my
final product, these also made my final product a lot better overall, as it
stopped it from being dull and boring. As well as this all the lists made
during planning, e.g. contingency planning, were done well, all that I
needed was included in the lists, and the lists also made me think of
certain things I wouldn’t have thought of otherwise.
• A weakness of my planning could be my schedule, this is a weakness as I
didn’t follow it at all, as I just went with what I felt was appropriate while
making my product.
5. Time Management
• I managed my time very well, I had finished my
product quite a bit before the deadline, therefore if I
did have additional time I think the product would
have still ended up the same as it is now.
• A weakness of my time management could be the
original schedule made in planning, as I didn’t follow
this when making my products, this was because I
just did what I felt was relevant at the time and
therefore didn’t need a schedule.
6. Technical Qualities
• There are many similarities between the two podcasts, one being the
subject, as both are based on football and therefore the discussions are of
a similar format. As well as this there are different voices and different
opinions on both shows, mine being with a guest, and the 5 Live show
being with guests who are experienced in football or football journalism.
As well as this the 5 Live is more professional, this will be obvious from the
equipment they have in the studio compared to what we used.
• Despite the similarities there are still a few differences between the two,
in my product I include background music and sound effects, yet in the 5
Live show there are no sound effects or background music apart from at
the introduction of the show and the end of the show.
7. Aural Qualities
• I believe my work was creative, obviously there isn’t usually much you can
do with football and sports news, but I feel like I made it as entertaining as
it could be through the style of the commentary, different sound effects,
and the background music. As well as this the pace and tone of voices in
the product were excitable, and they weren’t boring and slow, this was
because the product needed to be more fast paced and exciting to get
through footballing news in the best way.
• I think to improve the product I could’ve made a bit of a script, in my
product as it is now I made a script that just includes subjects, yet if I
made a script with some lines in, not fully scripted as this would take the
opinions and honesty out of the show, then it may have come across as a
more professional piece of work.
8. Audience Appeal
• The target audience was very wide for this product. The only thing that
really effects the target audience is the interest of football, as I did not
include a specific age, gender, or social status as I don’t believe that there is
any specific age, gender, or social status that enjoys football. Automatically
the product will appeal to these people as it is based on the sport that they
enjoy.
• As well as this the background music and the sound effects may make this
appeal more to a less serious and possibly a younger audience as it makes
the product seem less serious and therefore less boring for a younger age
group, as they may not have the patience to listen to a podcast that could
be considered slightly boring.
10. Feedback 1
• What did you like about the product?
– The music in the background and at the start and
end of the product was edited in well.
– The way each section was introduced was done
well and professionally.
• What improvements could have been made to
the product?
– Less topics maybe, as makes there be less to keep
up with as it may get slightly confusing.
11. Feedback 2
• What did you like about the product?
– The opinions were honest and you could tell you
weren’t making it up for the product.
– The intro and outro music was used very well.
• What improvements could have been made to
the product?
– A few less sound effects as too many can make it
sound unprofessional.
12. Feedback 3
• What did you like about the product?
– Background music and sound effects worked well.
– The commentary was good and could tell that it
was honest.
• What improvements could have been made to
the product?
– Some editing wasn’t great.
13. Peer Feedback Summary
• What do you agree with from your peer
feedback?
– The music and sound effects being used well.
– That talking about more subjects can make it become
confusing.
– Some of the editing could have been better.
• What do you disagree with from your peer
feedback?
– That too many sound effects can be unprofessional, in
some cases this is true but I don’t believe it is in my
product.
14. Peer Feedback Summary
• From the peer feedback I would make a few changes to my
product, mainly being talking about less subjects, this is
because at can become confusing and can make transitioning
to new subjects difficult to do. As well as this I would edit it a
little different, instead of cutting the sound effects quickly
make them fade out.
• Except for them two points I would keep the product the
same, as I believe the rest of the product was good, and the
peer feedback also suggests this.
