  1. Good morning Thank you for taking time to participate in the 2020 Fiberwood Industry Conference I am Mike Knoblauch – president of Keyland Polymer Material Sciences – located in Cleveland Ohio. I have been involved with UV cured powder coating since 2000 – starting with application of UV powder on MDF and evolving to manufacturing UV cured powder coatings and resins for UV cured powder coatings. My goal today is to introduce you to UV powder on MDF or broaden your knowledge of UV powder on MDF
  2. Our agenda is straight forward Background on Keyland History of UV powder An illustration on why UV powder is different, and the value of its deafferenting characteristics. Cost and benefit models An introducing UVDURAPRESS a horizonal flatline UV powder finishing process for panel products And at the end I hope to have time to answer some questions.

The history of UV powder begins in the late 1990’s and early 2000’s My involvement began in 2001 with the construction of the Decorative Veneer MDF system in Michigan This system was moved to Cleveland in 2005 and is now DVUV Keyland Polymer UV powder was started in 2006 In 2017 we began making resins in Spain Keyland is active in promoting and expanding the global market for UV cured powder on MDF and other heat sensitive substrates
  5. How is UV powder different from thermoset powder? Looking at a pound of UV and a pound of thermoset powder – there is no visual difference. And they are made on the same equipment. The difference is in how each is melted and cured. Thermoset powders are melted and cured on a time and temperature continuum – anywhere from 5 to 20 minutes, sometime longer With UV powder the melt or gel phase is separated from the cure phase. Melting is fast – 1 to 2 minutes or longer depending on the mass of the part and then instantly cured with UV light energy
  6. This chart is a good graphical representation of the process cycle advantage of UV powder compared to thermoset powders and some liquid coatings. The summary of benefits Faster Uses less energy Small plan footprint More productive All yielding higher profits per hour Time is money
  7. This is a summary of the benefits of UV cured powder.
  8. As I mentioned earlier, we are actively developing new applications and process for UV cured powder coatings. Today we are introducing UVDURAPRESS a flatline UV powder application system for finishing panel products, MDF, OSB, particle board and other panel materials.
  9. These are examples of an OSB and MDF panel finished the UVDURAPRESS system. UVDURAPRESS can be functional and a decorative finish for engineered wood-based panels
  10. UVDURAPRESS incorporates all benefits of traditional UV cured powder coating on MDF Fast Compact One coat finish Durable Energy efficient Environmentally friendly with a small carbon footprint
