You can’t ignore your outfit in sales
The style of your dress reflects the mode of your action -
sales people are primarily judged on their appearance.
The dress code belongs to a business’ brand - in banking client’s
expect suits, in marketing prospects expect “sneakers”.
Some bigger companies have dress codes for front office
personnel - smaller businesses should think about it.
All in all it’s not just about being the best sales person, sales
people have to be perceived as being good - the dress code is
one major add-on!
Five Tips for a successful business outfit
1. Avoid extremes - too bright colors, the latest fashion etc. are
pretty often “scary” for “normal people”, they do not trust
“fashion icons”.That’s how you lose business.
2. Polished shoes - sounds quite basic and it is basic. You look
“scruffy / dirty”, perhaps you even soil your client’s office, an
absolute no go.
3. Respect cultural requirements - in most cultures it’s not
appropriate for women to wear too short skirts. Sometimes it’s
even not appropriate to wear skirts and trousers are the only
alternative.
4. Nice and professional writing equipment - it looks “cheap”
when you sign a million dollar deal with a wallmart-pen.
Better buy a solid and neutral pen which starts at USD 10.
5. All in all it’s much better to be overdressed than to be under-
dressed, you can still get rid of your tie!
