12. En el primer experimento, se requería aproximadamente 5 semanas de aireación continua
para lograr completa oxidación del efluente. Al final de este período el líquido claro oxidado
se removía por decantación y una nueva tanda de efluente crudo se aireaba en contacto con
el material original que había quedado sedimentado.
Este método de tratamiento se repitió un número de veces, siempre reteniendo los sólidos
sedimentados.
Se encontró que a medida que aumentaba la cantidad de material depositado, el tiempo
requerido para cada oxidación disminuía gradualmente, hasta que eventualmente era posible
oxidar una muestra fresca de efluente crudo en menos de 24 horas
