2. Introduction
Community Education Partners is headquartered in
Nashville, Tennessee, but its operation isn’t limited to
one state. Community Education Partners (CEP) has
contracts in Georgia, Florida, Ohio, and Texas.
Students in the Houston area, in particular, have
seen a good deal of improvement from the work that
CEP is doing. An example of this is in the Beechnut
and Ferndale schools, where CEP runs Disciplinary
Alternative Education Programs (DAEPs). These
programs help students who have lost their way by
giving them the opportunity to get their studies and
social skills back on track.

One of the ways that CEP endeavors to help
students is by having smaller class sizes than typical
schools. In some CEP programs, there is a 1:12 ratio
of teachers to students. Smaller class sizes help
teachers focus on the individual needs of students.
Many students in CEP programs are at low levels in
reading and math, so personalized academic plans
are created to help them develop the skills they need
to graduate high school. CEP programs give many
students a second chance to succeed in school and
in life.
