4. SPACE NEEDS
Result of study and discussions
Goal of 3 departments to be housed in the current police headquarters
Community Service, Fire Administration and Facility Maintenance
Met with each of the three department directors (or staff)
They presented their space needs and requests
Determination that only 2 departments would fit in the space based on their needs
Facility Maintenance could not be accommodated in the space without major renovation and costs exceeding the budget
Adequate space for equipment and material storage not available - additions to the building would be needed
Community Services and Fire Administration will move into the building
Space meets all of their needs
1207 Texas Ave – Tear down existing structure
Facility Maintenance will request the funding for a metal storage / shop building to facilitate the storage of equipment
and materials, and provide shop space for the maintenance team
Approximate cost estimate of $1.5-1.7M
Facility Maintenance will move into current Fire Administration
7. SPACE NEEDS AND BENEFITS
Allows Community Services to move out of lease space at 511 University Drive
Savings is over $10,000 / month
Allows for growth / additional staff
A City facility is more recognizable to community partners and visitors than a lease space
Relocation of Fire Administration allows:
Expanded room based on current call volume and projections and growth of city
Room for staff, supplies and equipment to effectively support operations
Community Risk Reduction
Currently this team works out of a 250 sq. ft office and a storage closet, with 3 people working in this space
Additional storage is a trailer in the parking lot
Logistics / Quarter Master
Centralized location and ability to accurately track physical property and consumable items
Space to allow fire department training division to provide new and refresher Fire and EMS training courses
Space for executive management team to have meetings – currently 1 conference room shared between all divisions
