2. Presenting Instructional Content:
This TAP indicator deals with the method in which content is taught
within a lesson. The use of visuals and a teacher’s ability to clearly
communicate performance expectations in a concise and logically
sequenced manner are addressed by this indicator’s descriptors. The
use of visuals with examples, illustrations, analogies, and/or labels are
important tools to use when introducing new concepts and can lead
students to mastery of specific skills in a more efficient manner.
However, it may be that all of these are not included in one lesson. It
is important that they are used effectively and appropriately for the
content and students taught.
4. 1. Review the Descriptors.
2. Unpack the Descriptors.
-Ask yourself,
“Do you remember a teacher who used
examples, illustrations, or labels in her/his
lessons?” “How were the visuals helpful to
you during your learning of new information?”
Presentation of content most of the time includes:
● visuals that establish the purpose of the lesson,
preview the organization of the lesson, and
include internal summaries of the lesson.
● examples, illustrations, analogies, and labels for
new concepts and ideas.
● modeling by the teacher to demonstrate his or
her performance expectations.
● concise communication.
● logical sequencing and segmenting.
● all essential information.
● no irrelevant, confusing, or non-essential
information.
On the NIET Rubric, Find the Indicator “Presenting
Instructional Content”.

After viewing the video, Turn and Talk to discuss how the research cited in
one of the two paragraphs either supports the teaching observed in the
lesson or does not support the teaching observed.)

6. Alignment
What approach does the Indicator “Facilitating” suggest in order to reach all
students?
How do visuals impact student learning? Are they important?
Is it essential for teachers to model? What effect do
examples, illustrations and labels for new ideas have on the
lesson?
