A Dedicated GIS Specialist with Project Management Experience
___________________________________________________________________
GIS Specialist – Hanover Engineering Associates, Inc. – (11/2010 – Present)
Mr. Abbott has over 6 years of experience as a Geographic Information Systems (GIS) Specialist working in the
Energy Industry. At Hanover Engineering, current responsibilities require direct daily communication with clients to
assess needs and obtain results. Mr. Abbott’s experience includes the integration of Global Navigation Satellite
Systems (GNSS) and geospatial data management in all phases of pipeline construction projects, including route
development, environmental assessment, permitting, construction, and post-construction monitoring.
Examples of Specific Experience
• Project Management. Management of energy industry projects requires constant communication with
client representatives, contractors and company personnel to ensure that all parties are understand
scheduled tasks and are equipped to complete them within deadlines. All field and office tasks are
scheduled, prioritized and documented so permits, drafting and field work can be performed within
estimated time and cost budgets. As Hanover’s Towanda office manager, Mr. Abbott collaborates with
engineering and billing departments to monitor project budgets, subcontractor and vendor activities and
invoicing and scheduling of field work and housing for company personnel.
• Geographic Information Systems. As an experienced GIS Specialist knowledge of ESRI software,
AutoCAD 2016, Trimble GPS Pathfinder/TerraSync, Google Earth, and the Microsoft Office suites are
integrated into daily operations to create a broad ability to collect, manipulate, analyze, and display multiple
formats of spatial and non-spatially based data to produce precise and accurate results in a timely manner.
He manages detailed geodatabases for exploration and mapping of linear energy industry projects
throughout all phases of the project, aiding Right-of-Way (ROW) acquisition, pipeline route development,
wetland delineation, as-built, valve site design, and access road design. Mr. Abbott is equally capable with
operation of mapping and survey grade GNSS equipment and survey total stations to collect existing field
features, topographic, and as-built of construction projects using real-time and post-process differential
corrections while creating and using application specific data dictionaries. He is experienced with pipeline
as-built data collection and storage using survey equipment for the production of detailed weld maps, field
notes with sketches, AutoCAD drawings, and pipeline construction phase tracking of clearing, string-out,
bending, and welding of linear projects. This experience and attention to detail allows proactive measures
to be taken when adjusting to on-site situations and educating other field technicians on the use of
equipment and the correct procedures, using multiple software suites in several different formats to ensure
client needs and deadlines are met.
• Construction Oversight/Inspection. Oversight and inspection experience includes the construction of
permanent access roads, stream restorations, slope restorations, permanent storm water management
systems, planning and direction of geotechnical drilling, and post-construction ROW restoration operations.
He is often required to make real-time assessments and observations on-site of erosion and sedimentation
problems on construction projects and work closely with project engineers and client representatives to
achieve resolutions that meet agency, land owner, contractor, and economic needs.
2. Abbott 2
GIS Technician – Beran Environmental Services LLC, Boyers, PA – (01/2010 - 10/2010)
During an internship and subsequent employment as a GIS Technician with Beran Environmental, Mr.
Abbott’s daily responsibilities included using Microsoft Office, ESRI, Autodesk and Trimble desktop
software packages to generate field materials, collect primary field data and create plans depicting
findings of environmental reviews and writing field delineation reports for state and federal permit
packages. Data management responsibilities included organizing, storing and retrieving field data so
information could be analyzed for trends and displayed in client deliverables. Additional responsibilities
included preparation of sampling materials, effluent collection and reporting of quarterly monitoring of
regional landfill monitoring wells in western Pennsylvania.
Project Manager – Weather and Air Quality Observatory- Slippery Rock, PA – (08/2009 – 05/2010)
While completing an undergraduate degree, Mr. Abbott was tasked with designing, constructing and daily
operation of a weather and ambient air quality observatory. Grants for this project, written by Dr. Julie
Snow, for Slippery Rock University allowed for operation in conjunction with the Pennsylvania Department
of Environmental Protection to conduct continuous monitoring of EPA criteria pollutants using: API,
TECO, MetOne, ATEC, Agileaire, Sierra Wireless and ESC data controllers. Educational training
seminars were held for SRU students, explaining proper replacement and maintenance of the facility and
findings were presented at the 2010 Association of American Geographers national convention.
