  19. 19. Volunteerism ? WHAT IS In its conceptual form, includes the individual or collective efforts of willing individuals, known as volunteers, to act in ways which work toward the betterment of oneself, other individuals, communities, society and/or the world.
  20. 20.  Adults or teens who contribute time to the promotion, organization, assistance or leadership of an organization without receiving payment for services rendered (USDA, 1990).  Another definition provides four tenets of volunteering as: active involvement; uncoerced or given freely; not primarily for remuneration; and acting on the common good (Safrit & Merrill, 1996)
