Project proposal title and date:
Decipher 12/01/21
Main area of activity:
The main area of activity I will be making my project in is film.
Rationale:
Throughout my years in college, I have created a range of products from video games to film.
Making a video game has helped me learn the different aspects of what I can do in photoshop, this
could help me when it comes to making my FMP as when I make my film poster, I could do one as
a moving image. I have also created a podcast in my first year which helped me experiment with
sound and how to change the pitch to make the voice deeper or higher, learning this will also help
me when it comes to recording sound for my FMP especially with the voices. At the end of my first
year at college I made a horror trailer for my FMP, when I made this it was during lockdown so I
had to find a way around making it with the limitations, this has prepared me for when I make my
final project this year and how I will go about production and what software I can use in case
College’s are unavailable. Knowing this now has helped me create a concept for my FMP that I
know is doable in case lockdown is put in place.
Project Concept:
I plan to make a mystery/thriller trailer, the plot is about a serial killer who is targeting specific
people and leaving their bodies for a certain detective to find. Every time a body is found the victim
is left with a puzzle box in one hand, a bag over their heads and a tape recorder in the other hand.
The puzzles are left by the killer for the detective to solve and if they solve one, they stop a murder
and are one step closer to finding out who the killer is. Along with the trailer I also plan to make a
poster, and experiment with trying to make a moving image poster as well. I also plan to make
DVD covers and if I have time some merchandise design as well. In order to make my project to
the best standard I will need to conduct some research, looking at movie trailers, posters and I will
also need to conduct some primary research making interviews and surveys. This will help me get
a better understanding about how I can go about making my project, looking at trailers will allow
me to see the different ways it’s edited and clips they use to convey the plot, looking at posters will
give me ideas about designs I can use to show the genre of the film and looking at primary
research will help me understand the audience and what they are looking for in the film genre I
have chosen. I will also be researching some major influences for my trailer, such as James Wan,
Christopher Nolan and Martin Scorsese. These directors have all been major influences towards
me wanting to work in film and looking at their works and what inspired them will give me a better
understanding towards how I can go about making my trailer by implying the techniques my
influencers have used on their own works.
How will the project be evaluated and reviewed:
When it comes to evaluating my final project I will be doing self-reflections on my work when I start
production looking at what went well that week and what I need to work on, then I will move onto
my final self-reflection looking at everything I have done to work towards my final outcome of the
project as well as the final piece itself, I will be evaluating what went well, how I managed my time
and how I could of improved it. Evaluating my work and criticising it will help me in the future as I
can look back at what went well and apply the same techniques in my future works, the same goes
for anything I find that goes wrong in my project I can find ways to either improve or avoid it in my
future projects. Overall doing this will help me improve on my works and learn where I go wrong
within my projects and improve on that.
