During the 2016 women’s lacrosse season, the Fresno State Bulldogs broke numerous records, which led them to having
the best season in program history. Along with having the most wins in a single season (5), the Bulldogs earned record moments
such as most points in a game (33), fewest points allowed in game (4), and much more. The team of 26 talented players battled
injury, weather, field conditions and other obstacles throughout the season to come out victorious.
Beginning preseason training in early January, the ‘Dogs got off to a phenomenal start to the season. Shortly after
handling two preseason exhibitions, the Bulldogs came out on fire against their first non-conference opponent, Steston
University. Following the conquest of the Hatters, there was some struggle in their first two conference games against Denver
and Colorado. The ‘Dogs rebounded quickly in their first road competition in the Carolinas by capturing a thrilling come-from-
behind win over the Presbyterian Blue Hose and falling just short of victory against the Campbell Camels. Maintaining the
energy throughout the season was a challenge for all but the Bulldogs were able to come away with the most wins in a season (5)
and a tie record for the most conference wins in a single season (2) as well.
While the statistics only show numbers, the performances tell great stories. The Bulldogs had their best showings ever
against conference opponents, San Diego State and Oregon, keeping each team within 5 points. For the first time in program
history, the ‘Dogs went to overtime with the Aztecs after completing a full 60 minute match. Unfortunately Fresno State fell
to San Diego, 8-7, but nonetheless it was the best game Fresno State has played against San Diego State in program history.
Similarly, the Bulldogs were able to fight back from a 12-point deficit in Oregon against the Ducks to pull the game within 5
goals, another stellar performance showing the program’s growth since past seasons. ...Continues on page 4.

As the season comes to an end, so does an era. The 2016 class
of seniors on the Fresno State Lacrosse team have completed
exceptional careers and leave behind a legacy of all the hard
work they have put into this program.
While all the seniors have made huge impacts on the
program, three specifically have led the charge. Sophia Aragon,
Meganne Weissenfels and Anjelica Fuccillo all hold program
records that they hope to be broken in the next few years.
The Fresno State Lacrosse all-time record book will include
these senior leaders in points (101, Fuccillo), assists (31
Fuccillo), ground balls (97, Aragon), caused turnovers (56,
Aragon), goalkeeper wins (7, Weissenfels), goalkeeper save
percentage (.417, Weissenfels) and goalkeeper goals-against
average (12.03, Weissenfels).
Macaulay, Frew, Ross, and Hill have also contributed to
a significant amount of program growth in their four years
and will surely leave in impression on current and former
teammates.

The first ever Lacrosse Legacy Awards Dinner
is set for May 18 at the Sunnyside Country
Club. Tickets for the event are $65 a person and
sponsored tables of 10 are available for $1000.
The event will begin at 6 p.m. with a cocktail hour
and silent auction, followed by dinner and a live
auction at 7 p.m.

Mountain West Network Interns host
Night of Champions Pre-Show
It’s football season. The game is close and getting intense. Viewers of the
Mountain West Network (MWN) see a highlight shot of the winning touch
down and the crowd going wild. However, the eyes behind the camera are
more focused on getting the shot instead of cheering on their team.
During the fall and spring semesters, Fresno State Lacrosse juniors, Alex
White and Chelsea Hall have interned with the MWN. With what began as
a class assignment, the two have become seasoned veterans in the athletic
communications and broadcast departments. From running cameras at
sporting events, like volleyball, football, soccer, and basketball, to live tweeting
score updates and stats, they’ve done it all! White is a mass communication
and journalism major, with an emphasis in broadcast journalism. Hall is also
a mass communication and journalism major, with an emphasis in public
relations. The duo has worked side-by-side for the last eight months and has
produced some pretty great work. Their productions have been so phenomenal
that they were asked to handle a bigger task. Night of Champions.
The 9th annual Night of Champions athletics award banquet was held on
May 9, 2016 at 7p.m. in the Savemart Center. The event is held to honor all
student-athletes for all their athletic and academic achievements throughout
the year. Both White and Hall were asked to host the red carpet pre-show
interviews at the event.
“It was so much fun and Chelsea is a great partner,” White said with a smile.
“We’ve known each other for so long, we just work so well together.”
The interviews included award nominees, stand out coaches, and main show
hosts as well. Hall and White plan to continue working with the MWN in the
future and pursue careers in sports broadcasting and communications.

Off the Draw: Q&A with Caroline Dineen-Carlson
As the season concludes, we took a minute to ask Caroline Dineen-Carlson, the Fresno State all-time record holder in
draw controls, a few questions about what people don’t know about her.
Q: Describe how you felt when you started your first game as a Bulldog in 2014?
DINEEN-CARLSON: It was against Monmouth and we won, so that was really exciting. I remember being anxious, but in a
good way. I didn’t really know what to expect.
Q: Why did you start playing lacrosse?
DINEEN-CARLSON: I started playing in seventh grade because my friend’s mom told me I should try it out because I really liked to run. I
tried it and I fell in love with it.
Q: What have you learned over the past three seasons on the field?
DINEEN-CARLSON: It’s definitely a different pace of play in college than it is in high school. I had to learn how to adapt to that change and
learn how to excel through it. Recently, I’ve been really working on being a leader on the field.
Q: What’s your favorite memory so far as a Bulldog?
DINEEN-CARLSON: I think it would be seeing how much we’ve grown over the last few years as a
program. When I came here, this was a completely different program than it is now. That’s definitely
something I will remember when I graduate.
Q: What is something that people don’t know about Caroline Dineen-Carlson?
DINEEN-CARLSON: When I was a senior in high school, I went on a missionary trip to Africa for three
weeks.
Q: Which athletes did you look up to while you were growing up?
DINEEN-CARLSON: When I was playing lacrosse in high school, I looked up to Taylor Thornton. I
wanted to play like her. She always hustled and was always doing something while she was on the field. It
was raw athletic talent. I always wanted to be like her on the field, even when she didn’t have the ball she
was always going as hard as she could.
Q: What do you miss about your hometown in Southern California?
DINEEN-CARLSON: I miss my family and the beach.
Q: Did you play any other sports growing up?
DINEEN-CARLSON: I played softball and soccer and I was a cheerleader.
Q: What is your favorite class that you’ve taken at Fresno State so far?
DINEEN-CARLSON: Biological psychology with Dr. Shapiro; that was a really cool class. I love learning
about the brain and how it works.

As the season wrapped up, many lessons were learned and
improvements were made. Senior captain Sophia Aragon led the
bulldogs in most caused turnovers (25) and was third in ground balls
(28). Aragon was also among only 9 players to have 8 turnovers or less
in the entire season. Another major contributor to the Bulldogs success
was junior captain, Caroline Dineen-Carlson. The junior led the team
in draw controls (45) and ground balls (30), while ranking second in
caused turnovers (18), free-position goals (5), assists (6), goals (26) and
points (32). The two were joined by the third captain, red-shirt junior
Chyna Hill, who was sidelined this season due to knee injury, but
maintained a postive spirit and constant motivating energy throughout
the season.
The Bulldogs will return 18 players to next year’s squad and be
joined by 11 incoming freshmen players. With the tremendous success
of this season, the Fresno State Women’s Lacrosse is expected to repeat
and improve next years performances.
