The Charlotte Regional Partnership’s November issue of By the Numbers reports that the unemployment rate for the Charlotte region continued its downward trend in October, falling to 10.6 percent from 11 percent in September, with all 16 counties posting a decline. However, with the national rates up for November and county unemployment statistics that the BLS reports typically lagging this data by about a month, we may see this figure rise again before the end of the year. Although economists generally are forecasting unemployment rates to remain above 9 percent next year, that’s not necessarily a bad sign. As unemployed workers see conditions improve and become more hopeful that they can find work, they could return to the labor market, boosting the unemployment rate.
