Welcome to the 2016 QELi prospectus and program guide.
At the heart of all QELi’s endeavours is a commitment to supporting and elevating school
leaders’ leadership skills and ability. You can feel confident that when you work with QELi, you

This year, QELi celebrates its fifth year of operation - a significant milestone in the remarkable journey
of this unique and cutting-edge organisation. The QELi story, to date, is a very impressive one.
During the past five years, QELi has developed an exceptional reputation for quality. We have
been proud to support almost 7,500 education leaders, in more than 250 programs, across
all sectors. More importantly, QELi program participants are impressed and have given our
programs an outstanding rating of 4.5 on a five-point scale.
This year, we are excited to be able to offer you QELi’s signature programs, scheduled
throughout the year, including our Middle Leadership program, Emerging Principals program,
Executive Leadership for School Principals program, and our Practical Resilience program. We
have listened to your feedback and developed several exciting new offerings. Each of these
programs builds on your experience as an education leader, and elevates your capability, skills
and confidence.
Our scheduled programs sit alongside our on-demand and customised programs. Our team

Recent examples of our customised work for
clients include:
Assistant Regional
Directors
For the second year, 20 Assistant Regional
Directors from Queensland’s Department
of Education and Training completed the
mixed-modality Leadership Development
Program for ARDs program. The first phase
was a four-day workshop which focussed
on developing critical leadership capabilities
needed for high-level supervision of school
performance. For the second phase, QELi
assisted ARDs to establish a Community of
Practice, for an ongoing 12 months. Through
the program, participants have experienced
increased depth of discussion, sharing of
knowledge, support and peer mentoring, and
collaborative work projects.
Executive Development for
Education Leaders
Catholic Education Leaders
Twenty-three Catholic education leaders from seven dioceses across Queensland and New
South Wales, participated in the customised Executive Development for Education Leaders
program. This exceptional new program has been customised to suit the Catholic sector,
and exposed participants to current research, policy and benchmarking tools in education.
A highlight of the program was a 10-day educational benchmarking tour of schools and
colleges in Los Angeles, USA and Ontario, Canada. Participants channelled their learnings and
experiences into independently researched position papers, which have been presented to their
respective dioceses.
As a result of the exceptional outcomes and feedback, QELi are delighted to offer a second
program for Catholic leaders in 2016.
Northern Territory Leaders
Executive Development for Educational Leaders is about developing a strong, positive vision
for the Northern Territory schools and system, and improving the framework for improved
student outcomes. Together with Charles Darwin University, QELi provided 11 participants, from
schools and educational institutes around the region, with heightened knowledge and skillset to
contribute to policy and educational reform. This included a 10-day educational benchmarking
tour of Hong Kong and China. Participants developed and presented position papers on
systemic and localised issues effecting their contexts.

COACHINGSKILLS
Coaching skills are essential for
education leaders at any stage
of their career. A professional
learning strategy, coaching
recognises and responds to the
unique context and issues of each
leader’s work.
QELi partners with a number of high-quality,
nationally and internationally accredited
coaches and strategic consultants who can
support you if you are new to coaching,
need follow-up or advanced training, team
coaching for particular projects, or would like
to create a coaching culture in your school.
Coaching
Accreditation Program
This program is designed for leaders and
managers in the education sector who want
to build their leadership skills to manage
themselves and others toward greater
performance. It develops a higher level of
coaching knowledge and skill, leading to an
industry-recognised credential in coaching.
The program runs over three to five months
and includes a mixture of workshop contact
days and flexible external learning modules.
Peer Coaching:
Conversations about
Teaching Practices
This program is designed for pairs of teachers
who are already working collaboratively and
want to extend themselves and each other.
It will help you support each other in your
learning, enabling rigour and establishing
classroom success. It provides a balance of
theory and practical tools to build trust and
enable professional teamwork and dialogue. If
you successfully complete the program, you
may be eligible for recognition of academic
credit at several Australian universities.
Performance Conversations
This program is for leaders who have
line management and/or performance
management responsibilities for others. It
uses an innovative way of building solutions
into performance management conversations.

In the Coach’s Box ™
In the Coach’s Box™ is executive coaching
for school leaders, and is unique to QELi.
It helps school leaders, who are facing a
range of pressures, step outside their day-
to-day responsibilities and focus on their
development. Through In the Coach’s Box™,
principals will connect with an experienced
executive coach, to assist in building your
confidence and enact your vision for your
school or system.
COACHINGSKILLS
Practical Resilience
The Practical Resilience program is offered in partnership with The
Resilience Institute and will give you insights into steps you can take
every day to develop a more resilient outlook, and help you bounce
back when things don’t go the way you planned.
You will gain:
æ Individual resilience strategies and skills to enhance personal
well-being and performance
æ Enhanced ability to contribute to team performance and
organisational outcomes.
Women in Leadership AllianceTM
High-achieving women at all levels of leadership in the education
sector will benefit from this unique women’s leadership program,
developed in collaboration with Women and Leadership Australia.
It combines a leadership development workshop with peer-group
networking, to create an unprecedented forum for professional
development and on-going support.

This program will introduce you to innovative leadership evidence and

Middle Leadership Program
Teachers considering moving, or have recently
moved, into middle leadership roles will gain
the leadership skills and confidence necessary
to effectively support and contribute to their
school’s success. The program will equip you
with the skills to demonstrate you have the
capacity and capability to be a competent
and effective middle leader.

Middle Leadership Program
This program supports experienced middle
leaders’ ongoing pursuit for excellence. The
program builds on the skills and knowledge
fostered during QELi’s Middle Leadership
program, to explore and develop skills around
the more challenging aspects of leadership,
relating to vision, strategy and school-wide
improvement.

Business Service Managers
Business service managers, school registrars,

resource management within schools and the

You can feel confident that when you work with QELi, you will receive the highest-quality professional learning experience: we partner with an exceptional community of experts, utilise up-to-the-minute evidence-based research, and connect with industry bodies and universities, to make sure you have access to first-class resources. This year, QELi celebrates its fifth year of operation - a significant milestone in the remarkable journey of this unique and cutting-edge organisation. The QELi story, to date, is a very impressive one. During the past five years, QELi has developed an exceptional reputation for quality. We have been proud to support almost 7,500 education leaders, in more than 250 programs, across all sectors. More importantly, QELi program participants are impressed and have given our programs an outstanding rating of 4.5 on a five-point scale. This year, we are excited to be able to offer you QELi’s signature programs, scheduled throughout the year, including our Middle Leadership program, Emerging Principals program, Executive Leadership for School Principals program, and our Practical Resilience program.   • 6. / 11 Recent examples of our customised work for clients include: Assistant Regional Directors For the second year, 20 Assistant Regional Directors from Queensland’s Department of Education and Training completed the mixed-modality Leadership Development Program for ARDs program. The first phase was a four-day workshop which focussed on developing critical leadership capabilities needed for high-level supervision of school performance. For the second phase, QELi assisted ARDs to establish a Community of Practice, for an ongoing 12 months. Through the program, participants have experienced increased depth of discussion, sharing of knowledge, support and peer mentoring, and collaborative work projects. Executive Development for Education Leaders Catholic Education Leaders Twenty-three Catholic education leaders from seven dioceses across Queensland and New South Wales, participated in the customised Executive Development for Education Leaders program. This exceptional new program has been customised to suit the Catholic sector, and exposed participants to current research, policy and benchmarking tools in education. A highlight of the program was a 10-day educational benchmarking tour of schools and colleges in Los Angeles, USA and Ontario, Canada. Participants channelled their learnings and experiences into independently researched position papers, which have been presented to their respective dioceses. As a result of the exceptional outcomes and feedback, QELi are delighted to offer a second program for Catholic leaders in 2016. Northern Territory Leaders Executive Development for Educational Leaders is about developing a strong, positive vision for the Northern Territory schools and system, and improving the framework for improved student outcomes. Together with Charles Darwin University, QELi provided 11 participants, from schools and educational institutes around the region, with heightened knowledge and skillset to contribute to policy and educational reform. This included a 10-day educational benchmarking tour of Hong Kong and China. Participants developed and presented position papers on systemic and localised issues effecting their contexts. Enjoy a high- quality presenter or thought leader who will deliver specialised content to your team, to help them build critical skills. Short-format and special event programs include: æ Student-free days æ Thought-leaders speakers and MC responsibilities æ Student and staff health and well-being (in partnership with the Resilience Institute) æ Mentoring programs æ Boardroom lunches. SHORTPROGRAMS COACHINGSKILLS Coaching skills are essential for education leaders at any stage of their career. A professional learning strategy, coaching recognises and responds to the unique context and issues of each leader’s work. QELi partners with a number of high-quality, nationally and internationally accredited coaches and strategic consultants who can support you if you are new to coaching, need follow-up or advanced training, team coaching for particular projects, or would like to create a coaching culture in your school. Coaching Accreditation Program This program is designed for leaders and managers in the education sector who want to build their leadership skills to manage themselves and others toward greater performance. It develops a higher level of coaching knowledge and skill, leading to an industry-recognised credential in coaching. The program runs over three to five months and includes a mixture of workshop contact days and flexible external learning modules. Peer Coaching: Conversations about Teaching Practices This program is designed for pairs of teachers who are already working collaboratively and want to extend themselves and each other. It will help you support each other in your learning, enabling rigour and establishing classroom success. It provides a balance of theory and practical tools to build trust and enable professional teamwork and dialogue. If you successfully complete the program, you may be eligible for recognition of academic credit at several Australian universities. Performance Conversations This program is for leaders who have line management and/or performance management responsibilities for others. It uses an innovative way of building solutions into performance management conversations.
  • 9. / 17 In the Coach’s Box ™ In the Coach’s Box™ is executive coaching for school leaders, and is unique to QELi. It helps school leaders, who are facing a range of pressures, step outside their day- to-day responsibilities and focus on their development. Through In the Coach’s Box™, principals will connect with an experienced executive coach, to assist in building your confidence and enact your vision for your school or system. COACHINGSKILLS Practical Resilience The Practical Resilience program is offered in partnership with The Resilience Institute and will give you insights into steps you can take every day to develop a more resilient outlook, and help you bounce back when things don’t go the way you planned. You will gain: æ Individual resilience strategies and skills to enhance personal well-being and performance æ Enhanced ability to contribute to team performance and organisational outcomes. Women in Leadership AllianceTM High-achieving women at all levels of leadership in the education sector will benefit from this unique women’s leadership program, developed in collaboration with Women and Leadership Australia. It combines a leadership development workshop with peer-group networking, to create an unprecedented forum for professional development and on-going support. You will gain: æ Key knowledge, skills and capabilities required to lead schools and your communities æ Confidence to move into high-level leadership roles æ A network of colleagues dedicated to leadership growth. ALLSCHOOL&EDUCATIONLEADERS

Future Leaders Program This program will introduce you to innovative leadership evidence and research, and will provide you with practical learning about you as a leader, leading a team and leading a school. Consider this program if you are a teacher interested in extending your leadership effectiveness and influence, or you are moving into a formal or informal leadership position within your school. You will gain: æ More effective leaderships skills for your classroom, and with your peers and colleagues æ A collaborative network dedicated to your leadership growth æ Improved confidence gained through practical advice, skills and access to influential leaders æ Recognition for prior learning from a number of universities towards masters degrees and other courses. TEACHERLEADERS Leaders who benefit the most from these programs include, heads of department, heads of curriculum, heads of special education services, year level coordinators, and positions of added responsibility.   • 11. / 21 Introduction to Middle Leadership Program Teachers considering moving, or have recently moved, into middle leadership roles will gain the leadership skills and confidence necessary to effectively support and contribute to their school’s success. The program will equip you with the skills to demonstrate you have the capacity and capability to be a competent and effective middle leader. You will gain: æ Skills to assist in enhancing the quality of teaching and learning in your school æ An ability to understand and build emotional intelligence in relation to yourself and your team æ Confidence to contribute to your school mission and goals æ Flexibility to respond to and support change initiatives æ An understanding of the importance of effective communication and timely feedback. Middle Leadership Program The Middle Leadership program will give you exposure to, and help you learn from, high-quality teaching and learning practices. It supports school leaders with formal or informal middle leadership responsibilities to build their leadership skills and become highly effective leaders of teaching, learning and school improvement. You will gain: æ An improved ability to lead change and improve the quality of teaching and learning in your school æ Tools to motivate others to work cohesively to improve teaching and learning outcomes æ A greater understand of the relationship between personal effectiveness and leadership development æ Confidence having led a key initiative in your school æ Recognition for prior learning from a number of universities towards masters degrees and other courses. MIDDLELEADERS Advanced Middle Leadership Program This program supports experienced middle leaders’ ongoing pursuit for excellence. The program builds on the skills and knowledge fostered during QELi’s Middle Leadership program, to explore and develop skills around the more challenging aspects of leadership, relating to vision, strategy and school-wide improvement. You will gain: æ Tools to build a high-performance culture that dives employee productivity and engagement æ An improved ability to lead and manage change seamlessly and sustain improvement in schools æ A greater ability to build effective teams and trust within the organisation. MIDDLELEADERS Business Service Managers Business service managers, school registrars, and those with operations and finance managerial positions in schools will gain skills and confidence to lead diverse teams, adapt to change, and work collaboratively to achieve improved governance and business deliverables for your school. You will gain: æ An increased understanding of yourself and your impact on others æ Tools to harness and develop the skills and talents of a diverse team æ Improved skills in leading and influencing others æ An improved ability to effectively manage change to align to the improvement of school systems and processes æ Recognition for prior learning from a number of universities towards masters degrees and other courses.

Emerging Principals Program This program is designed to support high- performing deputy, assistant and associate principals, who may also be aspiring to the position of principal. It provides participants with practical and research-based tools and strategies. DEPUTY,ASSISTANT &ASSOCIATEPRINCIPALS&HEADSOFSCHOOL Resource Management for Educational Leaders The program will give individuals and multi-disciplined teams (including school principals, school business managers, assistant principals, middle leaders and those aspiring to educational leadership or governance positions) responsible for resource management within your school, insight into education leadership, business and governance matters, and holistic resource management within schools and the education sector. You will gain: æ Financial management skills for schools, including short and long-term budgeting, and asset and infrastructure management æ Skills in workforce planning and management æ Skills in outsourcing, pricing, purchasing and investment in school resources æ Knowledge of governance requirements.

It will increase principals and leadership team’s capability to work effectively together to achieve whole- school improvement. It will provide you with strategies to develop a shared vision, and establish group protocols. It will also help you shape team learning and build a coaching culture within your school. You will gain: æ A refocused and re-energised attitude æ A more cohesive and high-performing leadership team æ A collegial network of like-minded principals to share and exchange key challenges and learnings æ Recognition for prior learning from a number of universities towards masters degrees and other courses. Executive Leadership for School Principals Program This program supports experienced principals who have recently transitioned to complex and challenging contexts, or are about to undergo a significant transition in their leadership journeys. A key focus of the program is the development and implementation of a collaborative learning project with business, industry and the broader community.
