 Learned standard operating procedures

 Occupational Safety and Health Administration Report
 Safety guarding in POLO, FEL, Maintenance
 POLO E-Stop
 Guard or grind down rotating shafts with keyways,
setscrews plant wide
 Labeling (pipes, hoist lift)
 Exit & directional signs
 Painted eyewash stations
Rotating Shafts
 The Problem:
 Unsafe rotating shafts with keyways/setscrews plant wide (152 locations)
 Eliminate exposure to trapping clothing, fingers, hair
 The Solution:
 Identify all shafts that do not meet code
 Address which shafts need grinding or capping
 Order shaft caps from Dodge, IPTCI, AMI
Safety Guarding
 The Problem:
 Inadequate guarding around all FEL pick and place robots
 Inadequate guarding on FEL paddle arm pneumatic assemblies
 Eliminate shear points & large gaps that don’t meet OSHA code
 The Solution:
 Worked with C&T to construct/design appropriate safe guards
POLO Emergency Stop Cables
 Installed E-stop cables along pack off area
 Worked with Windemuller to complete
X5 Auger Chute
 The Problem
 On big tote days, egg spills off auger chute & conveyer belt
in X5 - builds up on mezzanine
 Due to high velocity and poor design on original chute
 Creates loss of product
 Causes micro issue
 The Solution
 Worked with C&T to design larger chute with higher side
walls, less angle
 Goal - Curb loss of product, improve sanitation, higher yields
Maintenance Action Week
 Constructed shelving/racks
 Organized/labeled bins
 Sorted equipment
 Took inventory
Small Projects
 Replaced safety data sheets
 Active shooter presentations
 Measured light intensity of plant
 3.5% of plant did not meet OSHA regulations
 POLO temperature study
 Assisted taking temperatures in POLO robot room & cooler
 Track temperature change
 On average, temperatures increased 3-5 degrees from Evergreen
machine to cooler

Editor's Notes

  1. I majored in ethnic studies and geography, completely unrelated fields, wanted to expand my horizons and gain an understanding in an unfamiliar field. I wanted to become familiar with Cargill first hand. Learn about workflow of plant operations, operational & capital effectiveness, and reliability excellence Ultimately, I wanted to add value to the plant and leave some sort of mark no matter how big or small.
  2. -NYAGI (Now You Are the Group’s Interest) stands for man, woman child living in impoverished area desperately in need of medical care -Dedicated to increasing diagnostic ultrasound use around the world -Vision to proactively save lives with ultrasound
  3. SOP’s -Purpose to achieve efficiency, quality output and uniformity of performance, while reducing miscommunication & failure to comply to industry regulations.
