Caltrans is opening a new certification site in Sacramento for contractor inertial profilers to be used in California projects. The site will be located on I-80 at the Watt Light Rail Station. Caltrans specifications now require that all paving projects use inertial profilers instead of profilographs to measure pavement smoothness, and certification will now take place at the California site instead of through Texas Transportation Institute. An informational webinar about the new certification procedures will be held on June 13, 2013.
1. Caltrans Inertial Profiler Certification
Attention
Caltrans would like to announce the opening of a
certification site for contractor/consultant inertial
profilers for use in California.
Location
The certification site is located in the median of I-80 at
the Watt Light Rail Station in the City of Sacramento.
Background
On February 22, 2013, Caltrans posted SSP 39-1.12
for HMA and SSP 40-1 for PCC. These specifications
require that all paving projects use the Inertial Profiler
for measuring pavement smoothness in lieu of the
California Profilograph.
The specifications currently require that certification be
performed by the Texas Transportation Institute for
both the device and operator. This will no longer be
required with the opening of the California site.
Tentative opening date is July 2013.
For further information regarding the new certification
procedures, please log into an informational webinar
scheduled for June 13, 2013.
