Future avenues to develop the CHARM R&I Dimension
(through European calls)
This action follows Council Conclusions on the European strategy empowering higher
education institutions for the future of Europe.
The objectives are to:
1. Raise excellence in science and in value creation through deeper and geographically
inclusive cooperation in alliances of higher education institutions, with a particular
focus on Widening countries
2. Improve global competitiveness and visibility of Europe's higher education institutions,
creating critical mass in key areas such as the green transition and Horizon Europe
mission areas
9. TORCH| TRANSFORMINGOPENRESPONSIBLERESEARCH ANDINNOVATIONTHROUGHCHARM
1. Triple (Green, Digital, Social) Transition. Engagement with cities for the development of
impactful research and innovation: City-Environment-Citizens
2. Concrete solutions, methods and practices in a transdisciplinary cooperation involving
the quadruple helix stakeholders with a focus on UN SDGs.
3. Connecting knowledge, policies and citizens. Mutual knowledge-sharing processes with
widening countries and their non-Widening partners, balancing diverse ecosystems.
Supports the partner HEIs’ host cities – Budapest, Barcelona, Dublin, Utrecht and Turku -
in achieving their sustainability goals using a co-creation process

WP9 Pilot: Citizen science training
Championing Open Science; Fostering equality diversity and Inclusivity; Promoting inter- trans disciplinary
research driven by societal challenges
Citizen science: a way to foster inclusivity of undeserved or marginalized groups scientific research. To better
address to societal challenges beyond disciplines. Strong emphasis on people’s concerns and their first-hand
knowledge
• Professional scientists in European universities
• Civil society organisations or public administration (public agencies, schools, public libraries…). To offer
them specific training and approach them to academic world
• Transversal skills and competences, from codesign techniques to development of digital tools, from
crowdsourcing strategies to communication skills or ethical aspects
• Certified training program and create new resources
