Care Groups are a community-based model for improving maternal and child health that has spread widely over the past 12 years. The model is now being used by over 20 organizations in over 16 countries. Some key lessons learned from project evaluations between 2009-2011 include: - Care Group projects have routinely achieved greater reductions in under-5 mortality than average Community Health and Social Marketing Group Projects, saving an estimated 49% more lives on average. - However, standard measurement tools like BLSC and LIST may underestimate the impact of Care Groups on health outcomes.
