6. ORIGINS OF SAFESTART
• Originally developed following a third party CCTV solution causing over
£30,000 in overage charges in a single month
• Designed to work in conjunction with our Quickstart range and allow for a
complete site set up at short notice and low cost
• Advent of new data tariffs allowed for a more adaptable network set up
• Internal image storage designed to minimise the data expenditure per month
• Client access developed to allow for easy access to incident footage either live
or after the event
• Remote power developed to allow for more adaptable deployment
• Resiliency of image storage ensures no loss of recording even in the event of
connectivity failure
7. KEY FEATURES
• The key benefits of Safestart include:
• Rapid deployment
• Instant access to any camera
• In-camera image storage – increased resiliency and reduced data use
• Full management included
• Fully scalable; priced on a per camera basis
• Low-cost fixed rental rates
• Audio alerts for simulated guarding
• One solution for all site needs
• Out of hours monitoring for guaranteed incident detection

9. BAM NUTTALL COW LANE
• Network Rail job as part of Reading Station development
works
• Allow 2 lanes of mixed traffic including high sided
vehicles + pedestrian walk way
• Widen and increase the head height by lowering the road
10. BAM NUTTALL COW LANE – SITE
REQUIREMENTS
• A medium project site near Reading train station, consisting of up to 25+ workers
over two compound areas
• The first trial site for Safestart with BAM Nuttall
• Required a comprehensive, low cost CCTV solution on both main compound and
remote work site
• Lack of power at work site necessitated resilient remote power option
• Full out of hours monitoring required
• Site needed an adaptable solution to cope with a changing layout
• Proximity to main road, rail over-passes and a nearby traveller site made a robust
solution a priority to the project
• Long-term deployment needed - 24 months+
11. BAM NUTTALL COW LANE – SOLUTION
DETAILS
• Installed November 2017 as a proof of concept trial
• Trial period finished March 2018
• Initial 8-camera deployment, eventually increased to 10 devices
• Two resilient remote power sources established at work site consisting of both
solar and wind devices
• Programmable audio alert system integrated into network
• Wireless radio link connecting the work area cameras to the main compound
• Entire camera network run from a single 4G device, which also supplied the site
connectivity
• Out of hours management established for set time periods
• Coverage confirmed by on-site walk test
14. COW LANE PROJECT STAFF COMMENTS
‘Inconspicuous’ ( Good? Bad?)
‘Good Range Of Cameras to suit site conditions’
‘Trellisworks overcame power issues by using batteries storing solar/wind power’
‘Good that cameras can be used to view activity from personal devices’
Constructive Feedback
‘Personal device interface a little clunky’ – TW Comment: POC development)
‘Good range of cameras located to suit site conditions……..however cameras are
not of great quality – a few incidents off site did not allow number plates to be
recognised by the cameras’ – TW Comment: Wide-angle cameras used primarily to
cover compound rather than road as agreed with project
‘Motion sensing needed a lot of adjustment to prevent false alarms’ – TW
Comment: POC development of filter system on a complex, active site area
15. BENEFITS TO PROJECT
• A low cost solution, with low data consumption (average 5GB for all 10 cameras
per month)
• Rapidly deployed, adaptable network providing full site coverage
• One 4G router solution provided data connectivity for CCTV and the Project
• In-camera recording and image storage provides resiliency
• Camera alerts fine tuned for site events – 95% of false alerts eliminated
• System proven to capture key incidents (including nearby traffic collision)
• Keyholder access to images provides real time or post-event view of incidents
• Out of hours monitoring and management for peace of mind on site and rapid
response
