3. Common challenges in (collaborative) barcoding projects
1- Collaborators have different areas of expertise and roles in the project.
2- Collaborators are often thousands of miles apart and interacting is not
as easy as when two researchers work in the same institution.

4. Common challenges in (collaborative) barcoding projects
1- Collaborators have different areas of expertise and roles in the project.
2- Collaborators are often thousands of miles apart and interacting is not
as easy as when two researchers work in the same institution.
The use of BOLD as a workbench to share data and interact can help
overcoming these challenges.
5. Barcoding the Birds of southern South America
Objective: to barcode the birds of the southern cone of South America
MACN - Argentina UMSA - Bolivia CCDB - Canada
6. Barcoding the Birds of southern South America
Field work in Tissue samples and
Argentina vouchers at MACN
and Bolivia UMSA and other
Institutions
Students Extraction and
trained at amplification
CCDB done at MACN
Analysis Barcodes obtained
performed together at CCDB
13. Collaboration and data sharing using BOLD: project users
- Users need to have a BOLD account for me to be able to give them
access to the project.
14. Collaboration and data sharing using BOLD: project users
- Users need to have a BOLD account for me to be able to give them
access to the project.
- There are different degrees of access for the users.
21. Collaboration and data sharing using BOLD
All unexpected results are checked for possible contamination or
misidentifications using BOLD
C. pyrrophia
P. torquata
Possible contamination
S. similis
S. coerulescens
Possible misidentification
25. Publication using BOLD: sending barcode sequences to GenBank
GenBank update channel: in BOLD v3.0 (beta) the curation of specimen and
sequence records is coordinated with GenBank. Changes and updates
made in BOLD are automatically sent to the GenBank staff so that the info
is also modified in GenBank.
