School Nickname
“Bronchos” was the nickname selected for Central Oklahoma
in 1922 by Mrs. C.W. Wantland, wife of long-time UCO football
coach C.W. Wantland. The name was chosen from a number of
suggestions for the name of UCO’s football team and became the
nickname for all athletic teams at the school.
Mrs.Wantland was made an honorary member of the Letterman’s
Clubasaresultofselectingthenickname,becomingthefirstwoman
admitted to that organization.
School Colors
BronzeandbluewerechosenasCentralOklahoma’sschoolcolors
early in the fall of 1895 by school president Edmund Dandridge
Murdaugh. The first public display of the bronze and blue was
in Guthrie when a student represented UCO in the first oratorical
contest ever held in Oklahoma.

Tom Hankins
Long-time Division I assis-
tant coach Tom Hankins is in
his first year at the helm of the
Central Oklahoma program.
Hankins took over the reigns
last May, coming to UCO
after spending the previous 18
seasons in the Division I ranks.
A native of Tulsa, Hankins
was an assistant coach for 15 years at Oral Roberts
before serving the last three seasons as associate head
coach at Southern Illinois-Carbondale.
ORU captured six Summit League championships
and made three NCAA Division I national tourna-
ment appearances during Hankins’ tenure there. He
also helped recruit forward Caleb Green, who scored
2,503 points and grabbed 1,189 rebounds during his
career while winning Summit League Player of the
Year honors three times.
Hankins went to SIU in 2012 as associate head coach
and recruiting coordinator, spending three seasons
there before coming to
UCO.
Tom was a prep stand-
out at Thomas Edison
High School in Tulsa,
finishing as the school’s
career assists leader and
earning Tulsa World All-
Metro honors as a senior.
He went on to play
two years at Northeast-
ern Oklahoma A&M and
two years at Northeastern
State, ranking among the national leaders in assists as
a senior with the RiverHawks.
Hankins started his coaching career as a graduate as-
sistant at NEO and he also had stops at Frank Phillips
College, Northwest Missouri and Tulsa East Central
High School before getting hired at ORU.
Tom is married (Annie) and has three children
(daughters Kamryn and Elizabeth and son Luke).

Cameron Henderson
In his first year as Central Oklahoma’s assistant men’s basketball coach is Cameron
Henderson, who came to the Bronchos in July 2015 after a highly-successful three-year
stint at Connors State College.
Henerson spent the last three years as assistant coach at Connors, helping the Cowboys
go 79-18 during that span while qualifying for the junior college national tournament
twice.
A three-time All-State performer at Hall High School in Little Rock, Ark., Hender-
son started his college career at Connors in 2007. He was a two-time All-Bi-State
Conference and All-Region II selection for the Cowboys before signing with Division
I Montana State.
Cameron was a two-year letterman for the Bobcats and then stayed on as a student assistant coach. He re-
turned to Connors as assistant coach in 2012.
The Cowboys went 24-9 in 2012-13, followed with a 23-7 campaign and conference championship in 2013-
14 and then had a 32-2 record last season while winning conference and regional titles. Connors made the
national tournament in 2013 and ’15, advancing to the Elite Eight last year.
Henderson recruited the 2014 and ’15 Region II MVP award winners and 11 players signed with Division I
schools during his tenure at Connors.
Cameron is married (Kiesha) and has two children (Jaylin and Mirasia).
Assistant Coach
Daniel Wheeler
Serving in his first season as Central Oklahoma’s graduate assistant coach is Daniel
Wheeler.
Wheeler came to the Bronchos after spending the past two years as student assistant
coach for operations at Mid-America Intercollegiate Athletics Association rival Mis-
souri Western.
Daniel worked the previous three years as a student manager/assistant coach at
Northern Oklahoma-Tonkawa, helping the Mavericks to a best-ever 27-4 record and
conference championship.
A native of Burden, Kan., Wheeler was a four-year standout in football, basketball
and baseball at Central High School.
Graduate Assistant Coach

Strassle netted 3.8 points and 1.6 rebounds a year ago and
is a key team leader with 3-point range who does a lot of the
little things that helps the Bronchos succeed.
The athletic Byford is capable of taking over a starting role
and becoming a big-time contributor this season after averag-
ing 3.4 points and 2.4 rebounds last season.
Kilborn and Thelen will be looking to play increased roles
after seeing limited time in 2014-15.
Redshirt freshmen Taylor Hicks (5-11, 170) and Jace Kerr
(6-6, 200) are also back from last year, while
senior CalAndrews (6-
7, 200) will sit out the
season with injury after
averaging 8.5 points
and 3.2 rebounds in
2014-15.
The Bronchos added
six newcomers in ju-
nior transfers Corey
Alpough (6-6, 187),
Kendahl Amerson (6-
3, 200) and Cornell Neal
(5-11, 187) and freshmen
Cooper Clark (6-1, 165), Josh
Holliday (5-9, 165) and Jordan
London (6-0, 180).
Neal is expected to vie for
a starting berth, while Al-
pough, Amerson, Holliday
and London should all see
extensive action. Clark is
expected to redshirt.
Alpough and Neal played together in
junior college, with Alpough averaging
12.9 points and 8.9 rebounds a game last
year while Neal netted 11.5 points and 5.7
assists. Amerson redshirted at Division I
Bradley last year, but is a deadly 3-point shooter
who made 81 treys in averaging 17.5 points a game
in the juco ranks in 2013-14.
“We have good depth and a lot of guys who can shoot
the ball,” Hankins said. “We’re not as worried about what we
can do offensively as we are how well we can defend and
rebound. Those are areas we really need to improve on.
“Our main objective is to get better each and every day.
Making the effort to improve every time we step on the court
is key for us and I think our guys understand that.”
Another rugged MIAA schedule awaits, but Hankins feels
his team is ready.
“Obviously I haven’t been through it yet, but I know this
is a tough league and there are no off nights,” Hankins said.
“You have to come out ready to play from the opening tip in
every game and I expect us to do that.”
new coach and a new system may require an early
adjustment period, but Central Oklahoma appears
more than capable of challenging for Mid-America
Intercollegiate Athletics Association supremacy
in 2015-16.
First-year head coach Tom Hankins came to the Bronchos
last May with 18 years of Division I assistant coaching expe-
rience and inherited a UCO team with eight lettermen back
from a 20-10 team that tied for third in the league, including
six who started at least four games.
Several newcomers will also look to have an immediate
impact and Hankins is excited about what his team can ac-
complish this season.
“We’re very pleased with how hard the team has been work-
ing,” said Hankins, who spent 15 years at Oral Roberts and
three at Southern Illinois-Carbondale prior to taking over the
UCO helm. “They’ve done a great job of buying into a new
coaching staff and a new way of doing things.
“This is a fun group to get in the gym with every day and
I’m looking forward to seeing how we continue to grow
as the season progresses.”
Set to lead the Bronchos are a trio of players who
made 17-plus starts last year -- seniors Seth Heckart
(6-0, 175) and Trai Jordan (6-6, 225) and sopho-
more Garen Wright (6-4, 210).
Heckart is the team’s undisputed leader and
one of the top long-range shooting threats in
the conference, with the scrappy, do-every-
thing veteran intent on finishing his career
in style. He averaged 10.6
points, 3.9 rebounds, 3.5
assists and 1.6 steals a
game last year while
making 73 treys.
Jordan is a rugged
inside force who should be the team’s
top rebounder and shot-blocker. He aver-
aged 6.6 points and a team-high 5.1 rebounds
a contest last season to go with 27 blocks and is
looking to be more of an offensive threat this
winter.
The explosive Wright has the ability to
score inside or out and is poised to take
on an even bigger role after averaging 9.7
points and 3.7 rebounds a game last year.
UCO’s other returning lettermen are seniors
Jarred Bairstow (6-7, 230) and Jacob Strassle (6-3, 220),
juniors Corbin Byford (6-7, 220) and Logan Thelen (7-0,
220) and sophomore Garrett Kilborn (6-5, 210).
Bairstow averaged 4.9 points and 3.1 rebounds a contest
last season, has started a handful of games the past two years
and is capable of really helping the Bronchos inside with his
size and strength.

TAHLEQUAH, Okla. (Nov. 14) -- Reggie Sloan scored six points during a
15-2 first-half run that put Central Oklahoma in the lead and the Bronchos beat
Southeastern Oklahoma 80-68 on the first day of the MIAA/GAC Challenge.
The Savage Storm led 11-7 in the early going before Sloan hit a 3-pointer
and three free throws in the spurt that put UCO in front 23-13 with 11:11 left in
the first half. The Bronchos pulled away from there and led by as many as 31
before coasting in with the season-opening victory.
Four players finished in double figures for the Bronchos, led by Mahlon Jones’
16 points. Sloan ended up with 14, while Cal Andrews added 13 and Jarred
Bairstow 12 points and a game-high nine rebounds.
UCO 104, Northwestern Oklahoma 68
TAHLEQUAH, Okla. (Nov. 15) -- Three different players scored in a game-
opening 7-0 scoring spurt that gave Central Oklahoma early command and the
Bronchos went on to a 104-68 drubbing of Northwestern Oklahoma on the final
day of the MIAA/GAC Challenge.
The Bronchos shot 53.7 percent (36-of-67) from the field, including a sizzling
54.5 percent (18-of-33) from 3-point range. UCO outrebounded the Rangers
45-36 and limited NWOSU to 35.4-percent shooting from the field (23-of-65).
Reggie Sloan led five players in double figures with 20 points and added 11
rebounds, hitting 7-of-10 shots with four 3-pointers. Seth Heckart was 6-of-8
from long range in an 18-point outing.
UCO 86, Oklahoma Christian 60
EDMOND (Nov. 18) -- Seth Heckart sparked a first-half run that put Central
Oklahoma in control and the unbeaten Bronchos went on to pound near-by rival
Oklahoma Christian 86-60.
Heckart made 5-of-10 long-range shots and all three free throw attempts in
a 20-point outing while adding a career-high eight rebounds, four assists and
two steals.
Cal Andrews made four treys in scoring 16 points off the bench, Garen
Wright had 14 points and Trai Jordan added 10 rebounds and eight points.
The Eagles were within 11 at 49-38 five minutes into the second half, but
Andrews nailed a pair of 3-pointers and Jordan had an explosive two-handed
dunk after a steal during a 15-1 run that pushed the lead to 25 (64-39) with
10:19 remaining.

EDMOND (Nov. 22) -- A late-game cold spell resulted in a 20-point turn-
around and ended up in Central Oklahoma’s first loss of the season.
The Bronchos had an eight-point lead (89-81) over Oklahoma City with
7:35 left to play, but the Stars used a 20-1 run to surge in front and went on to
a 108-97 victory.
UCO missed three of four free throws and all three field goal tries while also
committing three turnovers during the game-changing spurt that gave OCU a
101-90 lead with 3:15 remaining and the Bronchos never got closer than eight
the rest of the way.
Seven players scored in double figures for UCO, with Garen Wright’s 21
leading the way. Trai Jordan had 12 points, six steals and two blocked shots.
UCO 113, Southwestern Christian 74
EDMOND (Nov. 23) -- Seven players scored in double figures as Central
Oklahoma throttled Southwestern Christian 113-74.
UCO overpowered the Eagles inside with a variety of layups and dunks, riding
a big 46-8 scoring advantage in the paint to register its highest-scoring game
since the 2009 season opener (a 116-114 win over Emporia State).
The Bronchos shot a sizzling 59.4 percent (38-of-64) from the field while
hitting 12-of-25 3-pointers (48.0 percent) and also came up with 16 steals in
scoring 44 points off turnovers.
Corbin Byford led another balanced attack with 18 points on 6-of-9 shoot-
ing with three 3-pointers, while Philip Brown made 6-of-8 shots in a 17-point
outing. Garen Wright, Mahlon Jones and Jacob Richardson ended up with
15 points apiece, Cal Andrews added 13 and Trai Jordan had 10.
Southwestern Oklahoma 70, UCO 68
WEATHERFORD, Okla. (Nov. 25) -- Southwestern Oklahoma scored the
final five points of the game and handed Central Oklahoma a stunning 70-68
setback.
The Bronchos -- who led by as many as 12 in the first half -- went ahead 68-
65 on Mahlon Jones’ 25-foot 3-pointer from the wing with 59 seconds left, but
SWOSU tied it with a corner trey 17 seconds later.
Jones missed on a drive to the basket with 16.7 ticks left and the ball went out
of bounds off a UCO player to give the Bulldogs possession. SWOSU made a
tough shot with 1.9 seconds left to take the lead and Jones’off-balance 50-footer
went over the backboard at the buzzer as the Bronchos dropped to 4-2.
Jones led UCO with 20 points, while Trai Jordan added 12 points and two
blocked shots. Garen Wright chipped in 11 points and Seth Heckart 10.
UCO 93, Southwestern Christian 77
OKLAHOMACITY(Nov. 28) -- CalAndrews and Mahlon Jones combined
for 25 second-half points to spark Central Oklahoma past pesky Southwestern
Christian 93-77 on the first day of the Oklahoma Christian Classic.
It was second game of the week between the two teams, but this meeting
didn’t resemble UCO’s 113-74 home rout four days earlier.
The Bronchos got out to a slow start and made just four of their first 14 shots in
falling into a surprising 21-10 hole before Reggie Sloan swished three 3-pointers
in a three-minute span to ignite a 19-0 run that put UCO in the lead for good.
Andrews and Jones both went 6-of-10 from the field in 18-point outings, with
Jones scoring 13 points in the final half and Andrews 12.
Jarred Bairstow made 7-of-8 shots in adding 15 points, while Sloan finished
with 13 and Garen Wright chipped in 12.
UCO 74, Southern Nazarene 70
OKLAHOMA CITY (Nov. 29) -- Mahlon Jones and Seth Heckart made
two pressure-packed free throws apiece in the final 24 seconds to cap a late-game
rally that vaulted Central Oklahoma past Southern Nazarene 74-70.
The Bronchos overcame a 16-point first-half deficit and ended the game
with an 8-1 run to pull out the tense victory in improving to 6-2 on the season.
Garen Wright hit 7-of-13 shots in scoring a game-high 17 points to lead
another balanced attack, while Jones added 15 points and Heckart 13.
The Bronchos shot 56.8 percent (25-of-44) from the field in overcoming 16
turnovers.
UCO 103, Mid-America Christian 96
EDMOND (Dec. 4) -- Philip Brown scored seven of his season-high 18 points
during a crucial late-game stretch that gave Central Oklahoma some breathing
room and the Bronchos went on to turn back Mid-America Christian 103-96.
It was the 250th career win for head coach Terry Evans, who moved to 250-
116 in his 13th year at the helm as UCO improved to 7-2 despite committing a
season-high 22 turnovers.
Mahlon Jones led UCO with 23 points, four assists and three steals, while
Seth Heckart had 16 points, a career-high eight assists and three steals. The
Bronchos also got 14 points from Garen Wright and 11 points and eight re-
bounds from Trai Jordan.
UCO 93, Lindenwood 70
EDMOND (Dec. 4) -- Philip Brown and Garen Wright scored 20 points
apiece while missing just two combined shots and Central Oklahoma opened
Mid-America Intercollegiate Athletics Association play with a 93-70 drubbing
of Lindenwood.
The Bronchos blistered the nets all night in shooting a season-high 68.0 percent
(34-of-50) and held a 46-22 scoring advantage in the paint en route to picking
up their fourth straight win.
UCO had two other players in double figures as Mahlon Jones scored 17
points along with having game highs for rebounds (eight) and assists (six), while
Trai Jordan chipped in 10 points, six rebounds and four assists.
Central Oklahoma got off to a strong start and went on to win 20 games for the second straight season in 2014-15, finishing 20-10 overall and
tying for third in the rugged Mid-America Intercollegiate Athletics Association.
The Bronchos were 4-2 six games into the season before ripping off seven straight wins in getting to 11-2 overall and 4-0 in the league. UCO
dropped seven of its next 11 games to fall out of the conference race, but won its last four games of the regular season and then prevailed in the
first round of the MIAA Post-season Tournament before being eliminated in the quarterfinals.

UCO 93, Lincoln 70
EDMOND (Dec. 7) -- Central Oklahoma overcame a cold start with a red-
hot shooting exhibition that carried the Bronchos to a 93-70 trouncing of Mid-
America Intercollegiate Athletics Association rival Lincoln.
UCO made just four of its first 13 shots in falling behind 13-9, but responded
by hitting 14-of-16 field goals over the next 11 minutes in roaring to a 44-24
lead en route to its fifth straight win.
Balance was once again the key for UCO, with eight players scoring at least
eight points and five in double figures. The Bronchos had a huge 36-10 edge
in bench scoring, outrebounded LU 37-24 and ended up shooting 55.6 percent
(35-of-63) from the field.
CalAndrews finished with four treys and 15 points to share team-high scoring
honors with Jacob Strassle, who went 4-of-5 from long range. Mahlon Jones
added 13 points, Seth Heckart 12 along with four assists and three steals and
Philip Brown had 10 points and five rebounds.
UCO 72, Central Missouri 57
WARRENSBURG, Mo. (Dec. 18) -- Suffocating defense down the stretch
paved the way for Central Oklahoma to pull off a monumental upset here Thurs-
day night as the Bronchos knocked off defending national champion and No.
3-ranked Central Missouri 72-57.
UCO forced the Mules into 10 straight missed shots during an eight-minute
span late in the game in turning a precarious three-point lead into an 18-point
cushion and the Bronchos cruised in with their sixth straight win to inprove to 10-2
on the season and 3-1 in Mid-America IntercollegiateAthleticsAssociation play.
Mahlon Jones led the Bronchos with 18 points, three assists and three steals,
while CalAndrews made 4-of-6 shots from long range in a 17-point, six-rebound
outing. Seth Heckart added nine points, seven rebounds and three assists, with
Philip Brown chipping in nine points, five rebounds and three blocked shots.
UCO 62, Missouri Western 57
ST. JOSEPH, Mo. (Dec. 20) -- Philip Brown and GarenWright pulled down
big rebounds and made clutch free throws in the final seconds to lead Central
Oklahoma past Missouri Western 62-57.
The Bronchos were ahead 58-57 with 15 seconds left when Brown was fouled
while hauling in a Griffon miss and the 6-foot-7 senior calmly swished both
charity tosses to bump the lead to 60-57.
Wright then rebounded MWSU’s tying 3-point try with four seconds remain-
ing and was quickly fouled. The redshirt freshman drained the two foul shots
to arrange the final margin and secure UCO’s seventh straight win, the longest
streak since a nine-game string in 2010-11.
Wright led the way, scoring all 15 of his points in the second half while add-
ing a game-high nine rebounds and three assists. Trai Jordan scored 11 points
with seven rebounds and three steals, while Brown had 10 points, eight boards
and four blocked shots.
Northwest Missouri 91, UCO 70
EDMOND (Jan. 3) -- Northwest Missouri put on a stunning long-range
shooting clinic en route to ending Central Oklahoma’s seven-game winning
streak in emphatic fashion.
The Bearcats made their first seven 3-point tries of the game, hit five straight
to start the second half and didn’t miss many in between in handing the Bronchos
a 91-70 MIAAloss. NWMSU ended up shooting a sensational 70.8 percent from
beyond the arc, draining 17-of-24 attempts.
Garen Wright led the Bronchos with 13 points, while Philip Brown made all
five field goal tries and both free throw attempts in a 12-point outing.
Missouri Southern 83, UCO 78
JOPLIN, Mo. (Jan. 8) -- A late-game scoring drought led to a second straight
Mid-America Intercollegiate Athletics loss for Central Oklahoma.
The Bronchos made only one shot in the final 7:30 – that coming at the final
buzzer – as the Lions scored 14 unanswered points to steal an 83-78 victory. UCO
fell to 11-4 on the season and 4-2 in the league.

UCO 73, Southwest Baptist 61
BOLIVAR, Mo. (Jan. 10) -- Seth Heckart’s long-range shooting stroke heated
up and Central Oklahoma ended a two-game Mid-America IntercollegiateAthletics
Association skid with a 73-61 victory over Southwest Baptist.
Heckart drilled his first five 3-point attempts, with four of those coming in the
second half as the Bronchos dominated the final 20 minutes to easily overcome a
four-point halftime deficit. The junior guard went 6-of-7 from the field with the five
treys and 6-of-6 from the line in finishing with a season-high 23 points while adding
three rebounds, three assists, two steals and a blocked shot.
Mahlon Jones was the only other player in double figures with 10 points, while
Philip Brown chipped in eight points, a game-high nine rebounds and two blocks.
Fort Hays State 82, UCO 72
HAYS, Kan. (Jan. 15) -- A cold spell down the stretch spoiled a spirited
Central Oklahoma rally as the Bronchos fell to Fort Hays State 82-72.
UCO overcame a 15-point second-half deficit to take a 67-66 lead with 5:35
remaining, but four straight misses and four turnovers over the next four minutes
resulted in a game-clinching 10-0 run for the Tigers.
It was the third loss in four outings for the Bronchos, who fell to 12-5 on
the season and 5-3 in the Mid-America Intercollegiate Athletics Association.
Mahlon Jones led UCO with 16 points, Corbin Byford had 14 points while
making 6-of-8 shots and Philip Brown had a double-double with 11 points and
10 rebounds.
Nebraska-Kearney 83, UCO 80
KEARNEY, Neb. (Jan. 17) -- Nebraska-Kearney scored six points in the final
27 seconds to hand Central Oklahoma a stunning 83-80 Mid-America Intercol-
legiate Athletics Association setback.
The Bronchos led 80-77 after Mahlon Jones’ layup with 43 seconds left, but
UNK converted a rare four-point play at 0:27 to take the lead and added two free
throws at 0:16 to make it 83-80. UCO missed two tying 3-point tries in the final
13 seconds as the Lopers held on.
It was the second straight loss and fourth in five outings for the Bronchos,
who fell to 12-6 on the season and 5-4 in the conference.
Jones led UCO with 23 points and four assists, making 10-of-13 shots with
a pair of 3-pointers. Reggie Sloan made three treys in a 15-point outing and
Philip Brown chipped in 13 points and seven rebounds
Washburn 68, UCO 60
EDMOND (Jan. 22) -- Opening- and closing-game shooting slumps were too
much for Central Oklahoma to overcome as the Bronchos fell to Mid-America
Intercollegiate Athletics Association rival Washburn 68-60.
UCO made just 2-of-14 shots to start the game in falling into a huge 24-7 hole
and then – after rallying to take a 54-51 lead -- hit only 2-of-9 field goals over
the final seven minutes in losing for the fifth time in six outings.
The Bronchos shot just 35.6 percent (21-of-59) for the game and made only
9-of-15 free throws (60.0 percent) in falling to 12-7 overall and 5-5 in the league.
Garen Wright was the lone player in double figures for UCO, scoring 12 of
his game-high 18 points in the second half. CalAndrews made three 3-pointers
in a nine-point outing, while Philip Brown had seven points and six rebounds.
UCO 68, Emporia State 50
EDMOND (Jan. 24) -- Seth Heckart’s 3-pointer sparked a 12-0 first-half run
that put Central Oklahoma in the lead and the Bronchos went on to dismantle
Emporia State 68-50.
UCO shot 52.8 percent (28-of-53) from the field and committed just 12 turn-
overs in improving to 13-7 on the season and 6-5 in Mid-America Intercollegiate
Athletics Association play.
Ten players scored and Philip Brown led the way with a game-high 15 points
on 6-of-9 shooting from the field and a 3-of-3 effort from the line.
Mahlon Jones added 13 points, Trai Jordan was big off the bench with 10
points and a team-high eight rebounds and Heckart finished with nine points,
six assists and four rebounds.
Pittsburg State 78, UCO 61
PITTSBURG, Kan. (Jan. 29) -- Twelve tough minutes to open the game put
Central Oklahoma in a deficit it couldn’t recover from and the Bronchos went
on to drop a 78-61 decision to Pittsburg State.
UCO made just two of its first 15 shots while also committing seven turnovers
in falling behind 24-8 and the Bronchos never really threatened after that in falling
to 13-8 on the season and 6-6 in Mid-America Athletics Association play with
their fourth loss in five outings.
Jacob Strassle was the only player in double figures for UCO, hitting 4-of-5
attempts from 3-point range in tying a career high with 14 points. Philip Brown
had eight points, while Trai Jordan and Seth Heckart added seven apiece.

EDMOND (Feb. 5) -- Reggie Sloan’s 3-point barrage to end the first half
put Central Oklahoma firmly in control and the Bronchos went on to clobber
intrastate rival Northeastern State 77-49.
Sloan drilled three long-range bombs in the final 3:12 as UCO used a 13-0
run to turn a five-point lead into a commanding 18-point halftime cushion and
the RiverHawks had no answer in the final 20 minutes.
Sloan led a balanced attack with 16 points while hitting 4-of-7 long-distance
attempts. Seth Heckart was 5-of-9 from 3-point land in a 15-point, five-rebound,
four-assist outing and Philip Brown added 12 points.
UCO 82, Pittsburg State 65
EDMOND (Feb. 7) -- Seth Heckart scored 13 of his game-high 15 points
in the first half and Central Oklahoma took command early en route to an 82-65
drubbing of Pittsburg State.
UCO’s swarming defense played a key role in the big win as the Bronchos
limited PSU to 33.3-percent shooting from the field while forcing 20 turnovers
in improving to 15-8 on the season and 8-6 in the league.
Heckart was 9-of-9 from the free throw line and had two 3-pointers in his
15-point outing while adding five assists and two steals. Mahlon Jones added
14 points and Philip Brown 11.
Washburn 71, UCO 65
TOPEKA, Kan. (Feb. 12) -- Washburn used superior bench play to hand Cen-
tral Oklahoma a 71-65 Mid-America Intercollegiate Athletics Association loss.
The Bronchos had a brief two-game winning streak snapped after a 38-12
scoring advantage by WU’s reserves gave the Ichabods a home-and-home sweep
in dropping UCO to 15-9 on the season and 8-6 in the league.
Seth Heckart made four 3-pointers in scoring 16 points to lead a balanced
attack by the Bronchos. Philip Brown added 13 points and six rebounds, while
Mahlon Jones had 12 points.
UCO 74, Emporia State 69
EMPORIA, Kan. (Feb. 14) -- Philip Brown scored 15 of his season-high
23 points in the second half to spark Central Oklahoma to a 74-69 Mid-America
Intercollegiate Athletics Association victory over Emporia State.
The Bronchos led by 11 points with 3:59 left to play and then had to hold on
down the stretch, getting clutch free throws from Jarred Bairstow and Seth
Heckart in staving off the Hornets for the much-needed road win.
Cal Andrews was the only other player in double figures with 13 points,
while Trai Jordan had nine points and five rebounds.
UCO 63, Northeastern State 57
TAHLEQUAH, Okla. (Feb. 21) -- Jacob Strassle scored six points during
an early-game 14-2 run that put Central Oklahoma in front and the Bronchos
went on to topple Northeastern State 63-57.
The RiverHawks hit two 3-pointers in taking a quick 6-0 lead before Strassle
sparked the scoring spurt that put UCO on top 14-8 and the Bronchos never
trailed again in winning for the fifth straight time over their intrastate rivals.
Mahlon Jones led a balanced attack with 14 points, hitting 5-of-7 shots with
three 3-pointers. Philip Brown had his third double-double of the season with 13
points and 11 rebounds, while CalAndrews chipped in 13 points and eight boards.
UCO 76, Fort Hays State 69 (OT)
EDMOND (Feb. 26) -- Mahlon Jones scored six of his season-high 26 points
in overtime and Central Oklahoma survived Fort Hays State 76-69.
The Bronchos didn’t score the final 2:11 of regulation and had to sweat out
a buzzer-beating free throw situation that saw the Tigers make one of two foul
shots with .2 seconds remaining and a chance to win the game.
UCO improved to 18-9 on the season and 11-7 in the Mid-America Intercol-
legiate Athletics Association.
Seth Heckart played 40 minutes and had 14 points, a career-high nine as-
sists, five rebounds and two steals. Philip Brown chipped in nine points, five
rebounds and three blocked shots.
UCO 74, Nebraska-Kearney 69
EDMOND (Feb. 28) -- Trai Jordan and Garen Wright scored five points
each in a game-closing 13-2 run that lifted the Bronchos to a thrilling 74-69
Mid-America Intercollegiate Athletics Association triumph that made Terry
Evans the winningest coach in program history.
UCO overcame a 13-point second-half deficit in pulling out the win, the 262nd
of Evans’stellar 13-year career with the Bronchos. Evans surpassed Jim Seward
(261-165 from 1987-02) for the all-time lead.
Jordan and Philip Brown had 16 points apiece to lead UCO, with Brown
adding eight rebounds and four blocked shots.
UCO 73, Missouri Western 72
EDMOND (March 2) – Philip Brown and Seth Heckart combined for 26
second-half points to sparked Central Oklahoma to a a dramatic 73-72 victory
over Missouri Western in the first round of the Mid-America Intercollegiate
Athletics Association Post-season Tournament.
The Bronchos overcame a 17-point deficit, taking the final lead on Brown’s
follow shot with 11 seconds left and then using stout defense to thwart the
Griffons’ last chance. It was the fifth straight win for UCO, which improved to
20-9 in reaching the 20-win plateau for the 22nd time in school history game.
Brown and Heckart finished with 19 points apiece to lead the way, with
Brown adding 10 rebounds. Cal Andrews chipped in 12 points and four steals.
Central Missouri 67, UCO 66
KANSAS CITY, Mo. (March 5) – Mahlon Jones’ heavily contested layup
just ahead of the final buzzer refused to fall and the Bronchos dropped a hard-
fought 67-66 battle to No. 18-ranked Central Missouri in the quarterfinals of
the Mid-America IntercollegiateAthleticsAssociation Post-season Tournament.
UCO had overcome 12-, 13- and 17-point deficits in their last three wins, but
the defending national champion Mules built a 14-point second-half advantage
and were just able to hold on. The Bronchos ended the season 20-10.
Brown, Trai Jordon and Seth Heckart had 11 points apiece to lead UCO,
with Jordan and Heckart also pulling down seven rebounds each.
