What do Solomon’s prayers show us about the God we serve?
The events of these two chapters record a 3 year period of drought.
Hezekiah was dealing with not only with a wayward people but an enemy who was coming against him and boasting against the true God of Israel. Sennacherib ( Akkadian : Sîn-ahhī-erība " Sîn has replaced (lost) brothers for me"; Aramaic : ܣܝܼܢ ܐܵܗܝܼ ܐܹܪܝܼܒܵܐ ) was the son of Sargon II , whom he succeeded on the throne of Assyria (704 – 681 BC). Sennacherib was from Nineveh. He was an Assyrian king who reigned about 705-681 BC (see Ancient Empires - Assyria ). The son and successor of Sargon, Sennacherib is known for his massive army of about 200,000 men that came against King Hezekiah of Judah (see Kings of Israel and Judah and Hezekiah's Tunnel ), and made the incredibly foolish mistake of arrogantly challenging and blaspheming God. Fact Finder: What happened to Sennacherib himself after his army was devastated? Isaiah 37:37-38
Verse 29 says they “all joined their noble kinsmen in a binding oath to follow The Revelation of God given through Moses the servant of God, to keep and carry out all the commandments of GOD our Master, all his decisions and standards.” The Israelites were basically pledging to live the way God has commanded them to live. What instructs do we have? Is there anything else we could add to this list?
