DESIGNER  PROFILE   •  EMBARKA   •          •            •      •  DESIGNER  PROFILE     •      •      •  BRANDY  JACKSON,  CREATIVE  DIRECTOR,  WAS  BORN  IN  DAVENPORT,  IOWA.  AT  A  YOUNG  AGE  SHE  HAD  A  PASSION   FOR  DESIGNING,  CUTTING  OUT  CROQUIS  AND  DRAWING  FANCY  DRESSES  ON  THEM.  YEARS  LATER,  JACKSON   ATTENDED  PARSONS  THE  NEW  SCHOOL  OF  DESIGN  IN  NEW  YORK,  STUDYING  FASHION  DESIGN.  DURING  HER   SENIOR  YEAR  AT  PARSONS  SHE  WORKED  IN  THE  FASHION  CLOSETS  OF  MAJOR  PUBLICATIONS  INCLUDING  TEEN   VOGUE,  AND  ELLE.  AFTER  GRADUATING  FROM  THE  NEW  SCHOOL  SHE  INTERNED  AT  KENNETH  COLE,  MARC  BY   MARC  JACOBS,  AND  THEN  LATER  BECAME  A  DESIGNER  ASSISTANT  AT  ANNA  SUI.  AFTER  LEAVING  ANNA  SUI  IN  2005   JACKSON  WORKED  AS  ASSISTANT  BUYER  OF  SHOES  AT  BERGDORF  GOODMAN  UNTIL  2008,  WHEN  SHE  DECIDED  TO   TEAM  UP  WITH  A  FRIEND  TO  START  HER  OWN  BOUTIQUE.  IN  2010  JACKSON  MOVED  TO  LINCOLN  PARK  IN  A  ONE   BEDROOM  APARTMENT  “LITERALLY,  DESIGNING  DAY  TO  NIGHT  LOCKED  IN  MY  BEDROOM,”  SHE  SAID   …”SOMETIMES  I  WOULD  FORGET  TO  EAT!”  AFTER  THE  LONG  WAIT  JACKSON  FINALLY  RECEIVED  THE  LICENSE  TO   OPEN  HER  FIRST  STORE  IN  THE  LOGAN  SQUARE  NEIGHBORHOOD  OF  CHICAGO.  JACKSON  BELIEVES  THAT  FASHION   IS  ALL  ABOUT  EXPRESSION,  AND  THROUGH  HER  DESIGNS  SHE  WANTS  TO  SHOW  HER  BELIEFS  BY  DONATING  A   PERCENTAGE  OF  EVERY  PURCHASE  TO  ANY  ORGANIZATION  THE  CUSTOMER  CHOOSES.  “I  THINK  THAT  IT  IS  ALWAYS   IMPORTANT  TO  GIVE  BACK,  BECAUSE  WE  ARE  ALL  UNITED  AS  ONE  IN  THE  END,  THE  WAY  WE  TREAT  OTHERS  IS  THE   WAY  WE  TREAT  OURSELVES”-­‐  BRANDY  JACKSON.
