What do you carry in your bag with you everywhere you go? Most people carry their keys, wallet, and phone. And what are the other essential pieces you need to include with you so that you can meet almost any challenge. This is a short list of things, ideas, and strategies I carry with me. #thingsIcarry

What happens when you're on the way to an important meeting with a VP and you get a flat tire? Here's a story of how what could have been "Avis Hates Flat Tires" or "Roadside Assistance Means ... Fix Your Own Damn Tire" became instead "Avis Delivers the Awesome" thanks to Chris Murray and Lauren B. of Waterloo, Canada. It's always better when you #delivertheawesome, and this story shows how doing an ordinary job in an extraordinary way yields results. Every time.

“The Thank You Effect” is an example of a small action that prompts meaningful next steps to measurably improve service in any company. In my experience, there are a number of these small actions that when evangelized through a support team or through the larger company can really make a difference on the customer experience. So I made a list of 50 small things that you can do to improve customer service measurably in your company. I’m not a purist, so some of these things might be “bigger than a bread box” – or need to be broken down into component steps – and aren’t quite ready to be measured on their own. And I do believe that adding only some of these steps will really improve the service culture at your company.
