- Level 1 axial shows the facial nerve (VII) leaving the IAC reaching the genu (red arrow). Note the vestibule, lateral semicircular canal. Attic is at the upper part of the middle ear and the upper ossicles are coming into view.
- Level 2 the facial nerve (arrows) crosses the middle ear. Malleus (M) and Incus (I) in the attic
- Level 3 the facial nerve (arrow) is now seen in cross section as it has turned into the mastoid segment. Stapes (S), note the small septations in the cochlea
