1. The month of February is usually one to cherish because it was in this month that our Founders formed
Balmer Lawrie as a partnership firm. We celebrated our Company’s 157th Foundation Day across units /
establishments pan India on 1st February 2023. This year, it was special because after a gap of two
years, all Balmer Lawriens along with their families got together on 5th February to celebrate the
occasion. It was customary to celebrate the Foundation Day with families on the first Sunday of
February in the four regions pan India, but COVID-19 played havoc in the last couple of years and the
festivities were curtailed. In this issue of BLOOM, we will bring you glimpses of the flag hoisting and
pledge ceremony held on 1st February. Details of other employee events will be covered in the April
2023 issue of Balmer Lawrie Organisational Gazette (BLOG), our quarterly house journal.
Our Company announced the third quarter results as per the accounts adopted for the quarter ending
31st December 2022. The results were approved by the Board in its Meeting held in Kolkata on 10th
February 2023. The total net income for the third quarter registered a growth of 1.45% quarter to
quarter and stood at Rs. 514.55 crore as compared to the same period last year. The Profit Before Tax
(PBT) increased by 48.32% and rose to Rs. 37.14 crore for the quarter ended 31st December 2022 as
compared to Rs. 25.04 crore for the same period last year. Correspondingly, the net profit (PAT) during
the quarter increased by 38.98% to Rs. 27.38 crore compared to Rs. 19.70 crore for the corresponding
period last year. The net income for the nine-month period ended 31st December 2022 stood at Rs.
1729.51 crore, an increase of 15.49% over Rs. 1497.52 crore in the corresponding period last year.
PBT for the nine-month period increased and stood at Rs. 126.66 crore as compared to Rs. 85.83 crore
in the same period last year.
During the Meeting two Board level appointments were also announced. Mr. Saurav Dutta has taken
over as Director [Finance] and Chief Financial Officer with effect from 31 January 2023. Mr. Dutta will
be overseeing the Finance and IT functions of the Company. Mr. Abhijit Ghosh has taken over as
Director [HR & Corporate Affairs] with effect from 1st February 2023 and will be overseeing the HR and
Corporate Affairs functions.
The 52nd National Safety Week will be observed from 4th to 10th March 2023. The theme for the
National Safety Week (NSW) this year is ‘हमारा लक्ष्य – शून्य नुकसान / Our Aim – Zero Harm.’ A host of
programs centered on the theme will be organized by the HSE Department. Request all of you to
participate and make the week a success.

2. The Travel vertical of SBU: Travel & Vacations signed MOUs for providing travel portal services with
esteemed Customers in the Public Sector in the month of January 2023.
BL UPDATES
Travel & Vacations – Kolkata participated in ‘Travel India 2023’ on 19th and 20th January 2023, a two-
day Conference and Expo on travel and tourism, organised by the Indian Chamber of Commerce (ICC)
to discuss sustainable tourism for the Future and Developing East & North East as a hub of “MICE
Tourism. Mr. Adhip Nath Palchaudhuri, Director [Service Businesses] was invited as a speaker in a
panel discussion that was very well received. The conference witnessed valuable insights from the Chief
Guest, Mr. Babul Supriyo, Hon’ble Minister, Dept. Of Tourism, Government of West Bengal.

3. Mr. Adika Ratna Sekhar visited Silvassa on 11th January 2023 to inspect the manufacturing facilities
there. In photo are glimpses of his visit to Industrial Packaging – Silvassa.
A training programme for OS deputees was successfully conducted on 7th January 2023 in Delhi. A
total number of 26 participants were present for the training. Ms. Ranju Sandheer from Myndscope
Consulting was the trainer and the training programme was customised to suit the needs of the
business. Feedback received from the participants was very positive.

4. As an engagement activity, a cricket match was organised on 8th January 2022 at the International
Cricket Stadium, Silvassa in which workers and Balmer Lawrie staff of Greases & Lubricants - Silvassa
participated with great enthusiasm. This initiative was a great platform to boost the morale, increase
motivation and togetherness among all.
As part of Foundation Day 2023 pre-events in the Eastern Region an Inter SBU / Function Cricket
Tournament was organised on 8th January 2023 for all Kolkata based employees. A total number of ten
teams participated in the tournament representing different SBUs / Functions. Team HR & Admin
walked away as winners and Greases & Lubricants – Kolkata was the runner up. The event saw
overwhelming participation from employees.

5. An early morning beach cleaning drive, ‘Jallosh 10’ was conducted by Western Region employees
in association with Project Mumbai on 21st January 2023 at Mumbai.

6. Flag hoisting and pledge ceremony on the occasion of 157th Foundation Day
The 157th Foundation Day of the Company was celebrated on 1st February 2023. To mark this occasion
Mr. Adika Ratna Sekhar, C&MD hoisted the Company Flag and addressed the employees at the
Corporate Office in Kolkata. In other locations besides flag hoisting and administering of the pledge,
C&MD’s message was read out. On this day, long service awards were also given away to the
employees in select regions. Foundation Day was celebrated in all the regions across the country.

9. A special Official Language workshop was organised by the Official Language Department in the
Western Region on 27th January at Varanasi.
During the half-yearly meeting of the Town Official Language Implementation Committee (TOLIC),
Undertaking held on 30th January 2023, Balmer Lawrie was felicitated with a shield by President, TOLIC
(Undertaking) - Kolkata, for special contribution in the field of Hindi in the activities of TOLIC in the
year 2022-23.

10. As part of the Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav celebrations (AKAM), Balmer Lawrie organised a painting and
quiz competition for the students of Vidyasagar Sishu Siksha Kendra and Baharu Girls’ High School,
South 24 Parganas, West Bengal. The painting competition for the students of Vidyasagar Sishu Siksha
Kendra was organised on 24th January 2023. A total number of seventy students participated in the
competition. Six community resource persons and family members of the students were invited, and
they were present throughout the event. On 25th January 2023, the quiz competition on AKAM was
organised for the students at Baharu Girls’ High School. Around eighty students participated in the
competition. Apart from the students, four resource persons from the community and the school
faculty members joined the event.
Basic First Aid training program was organised at Industrial Packaging, Silvassa in January 2023

11. Board level appointments
Two new Directors have been inducted to the roles of the Company. Mr. Saurav Dutta has taken over
as Director [Finance] and Chief Financial Officer with effect from 31st January 2023. Mr. Dutta will be
overseeing the Finance and IT functions of the Company. Prior to assuming charge as Director, Mr.
Dutta was heading the Corporate Accounts & Finance including Taxation. Mr. Abhijit Ghosh has taken
over as Director [HR & Corporate Affairs] with effect from 1st February 2023 and will be overseeing the
HR and Corporate Affairs functions. Prior to his appointment as Director [HR&CA], he was leading the
HR function of the Company as Sr. Vice President [HR] since December 2019.
Mr. Saurav Dutta, a qualified Chartered Accountant and Company Secretary,
joined Balmer Lawrie on 16th June 1997. Prior to taking over as Director, he was
holding the position of Vice President [Finance]. A seasoned professional with
nearly 30 years of experience, he has worked in core business areas in both
manufacturing and services, Corporate Finance and taxation function and headed
the Finance function of a Joint Venture during his tenure at Balmer Lawrie.
Mr. Abhijit Ghosh has over 30 years of professional experience in four Public
Sector Undertakings (PSUs) of repute. Mr. Ghosh is a seasoned professional who
has worked in various HR roles spanning Employee Relations, Talent
Management, Organisation Change & Development, Learning & Development, HR
Operations, Performance Management, Employee Engagement etc. Prior to his
appointment as Director [HR&CA], he was leading the HR function of the
Company as Sr. Vice President [HR] since December 2019. He has been holding
leadership positions in the HR function in other PSUs viz. National Fertilisers
Limited, West Bengal Power Development Corporation Limited and Hindustan
Copper Limited. He has a Post Graduate Diploma in Personnel Management from
Xavier Institute of Social Service, Ranchi. Mr. Ghosh has also pursued Master of
Business Administration from Calcutta University and PGCHRM from XLRI,
Jamshedpur.

Mr. Subhasritam Tripathy joined Corporate IT - Kolkata as Asst. Manager [IT
Infrastructure] on 2nd January 2023.
Subhasritam completed his Engineering in 2019. He was placed as an apprentice in
Software Technology Parks of India (STPI), Bhubaneswar for one year from February
2020. After completing his apprenticeship, he joined STPI, Bhubaneswar as Project
Associate (Technical). He has also worked with Indian Institute of Astrophysics,
Bengaluru in the role of Engineer Trainee (IT Support). Post that, he got selected for
Indian Bank’s subsidiary institution i.e. Indbank Merchant Banking Services Ltd. for
the role of Secretarial Officer (System and Networking Engineer) and was associated
with the organisation until joining Balmer Lawrie. He has keen interest in networking,
cloud computing and cyber security and forensics. His hobbies include weight
training, studying nutrition blogs, driving and browsing. His mother, father, sister,
grandfather, 3 parrots and his two bikes are his family.
Mr. J Srinivas joined Industrial Packaging - Manali, Chennai as Asst.
Manager [Accounts & Finance] on 6th January 2023.
Srinivas was born and brought up in Madurai and holds a Bachelor’s degree in
Commerce from Hindustan College of Arts & Science, Coimbatore. He has also
completed the final examination of the Institute of Cost Accountants of India. Having
started his professional career with M/s Apollo Tyres Ltd., Chennai, he has around 5
years of work experience in Finance and Accounts with exposure in plant finance and
accounts, financial planning and analysis, management reporting, corporate finance,
treasury, working capital management and SAP ERP. He was associated with Nippon
Paint India Private Ltd., Chennai, prior to joining Balmer Lawrie. He is a sociable and
decisive person, a dynamic team player, who believes in hard work and divergent
thinking. He is a music enthusiast and loves to play shuttle. He lives with his parents
in Chennai. His father is happily retired and my mother is a homemaker. He is
excited to collaborate with everyone in the coming days.

Mr. Rajesh Kumar Baghel joined Travel & Vacations - Delhi as Junior Officer
[Travel] on 23rd January 2023.
Rajesh was born and brought up in Delhi. He studied in Ram Lal Anand College,
University of Delhi. When he was in college, he completed his Diploma in Tourism
and Hospitality. He won different sports competitions during his college days. He also
won inter battalion firing competition. He was part of the Rajpath parade march in
2018. His hobbies include working out, volleyball, treking, mountaineering, and
reading books on war. He also enjoys his free time exploring new challenges.
Mr. Raktim Roy joined Travel & Vacations - Kolkata as Junior Officer
[Travel] on 24th January 2023.
Raktim was born and raised in Howrah. He completed his post-graduation in Masters
of Computer Application last year. While doing his Masters, he joined Balmer Lawrie
as a Travel Consultant apprentice for 1 year. In this period of one year, he gained
significant knowledge on the Travel & Vacations sector. Over this period, he gained
interest in this sector and chose to build a career in the same. Now he is here with
Balmer Lawrie starting a new journey as a Junior Officer in Travel, Kolkata. He loves
to play football and many others sports as well. He also has some attraction towards
photography, and he got a chance to contribute to a magazine released by Google
last year.
Mr. Aman Gupta joined Industrial Packaging - Mumbai as Asst. Manager
[Engineering Projects] on 11th January 2023.
Aman belongs to Shikohabad dist. of Firozabad, Uttar Pradesh. He did his schooling
from his hometown and B.Tech in Mechanical Engineering from Uttar Pradesh
Technical University. He has 3 years of experience in Pre-Engineering Buildings and
2.5 years in Oil & Gas (Refractory). He was responsible for planning, schedule
monitoring of the overall project as well as ensuring quality of work and safety of
colleagues / workers at the site. He is a sincere, self-motivated and hardworking
person with a positive attitude towards his career and life. He is always keen to up-
skill himself by learning new things whenever he gets a chance. In his free time, he
enjoys spending time with his family and friends, listening to music, playing chess
and travelling. There are seven members in his family including him (father, mother,
three sisters and his wife).
Ms. Aarti Vijh joined Travel & Vacations - Delhi as Junior Officer [Travel] on
2nd February 2023.
Aarti is 27 years old. She belongs to Delhi. She completed her post-graduation and
learned the Japanese language. She was always interested in travel. So, she decided
to pursue her career in this sector and completed her IATA. Prior to joining Balmier
Lawrie, she worked as a Process Associate in IGT solutions for the past 1.2 years.
She approaches challenges with a positive and analytical mindset and tries her best
to keep calm and focus on solving problems. Her parents are her biggest strength,
and they always encourage and support her in her decisions. She always looks at
her parents as inspiration. Since her childhood, she saw them working hard for their
family and now she believes that it is her goal to provide them each and everything
they deserve. This is what gives her the motivation to achieve new milestones every
time. In her free time, she likes to listen to music, enjoy craft-making and dance.
Mr. Vidyut Vijh joined Travel & Vacations - Delhi as Junior Officer [Travel]
on 27th January 2023.
Vidyut is 27 years old and is from Delhi. He passed his Senior Secondary level
education from Ryan International School, Delhi and Graduation from Hindu College,
Delhi University in Political Science [Hons.]. Besides academics, he is a die hard
cricket enthusiast and has played National level cricket in U-16 and U-19 levels
representing Delhi and has won Gold medal for his team. Another area of interest for
him has been hospitality & travel. Thus, he did M.A in Tours & Travel Management
from Amity University, Noida. After completing his studies, he pursued his passion in
Tours & Travel and worked as Tours & Travel Executive in some well known
companies. In his free time, he loves to stay connected with his friends, watch
movies and play outdoor games.
