FMP pre proposal

  1. 1. This initial document provides you with an opportunity to reflect on, review and summarise your progress and achievements through the first 7 units of the qualification and what you plan to create in your final project. Think about what you know now, and what it means to you, compared with what you knew and could do before you started the course, and how this has influenced your choice of pathway and your FMP. Tell me in no more than 20 words, what is your FMP idea? To make a film with themes from fight club but in my own twist and focusing on the mental aspects Why have you decided to make it? Because fight club is one of my favourite movies but also to explore the mental aspects a bit more than the film did. I also just want to have my own take on those aspects and inject personal experiences into it. What about your project makes it important to you? Its important to me as I want to expand my filming skills, I’m typically used to fast editing for music videos or fashion edits, I decided to take the challenge of doing a full-fledged story instead to test my skills and see what I’m capable of. It also lets me express personal experiences onto a piece of media that I can be proud of. Outline some of the initial influences on your idea/work and some potential research targets (remember, research isn’t just a paper based activity) Fight club is the overall influence as it sparked the idea of what I’m going for with the split personality and duality of the main characters but with an overarching message of just “letting go”. Also, movies within the same realm such as American psycho, night crawler etc as they deal with personality and mental problems leading to “alter egos” in their own senses. What effect do you want to have on your audience when they see your project? I want them to feel impacted and somewhat confused too making them double take and possibly rewatch to fully understand the story, I’m going for a psychological thriller type of approach. Describe the tone/mood/style of your project [which production techniques/characteristics are you employing?] I’m going for a dark, atmospheric tone and the same type of mood and style of fight club but with my own twist. I’ve been thinking about filming the whole thing on my Sony hi8 to differentiate from fight club itself or I might just do specific scenes with it to add intensity and character. Why have you decided to make your project in this style? Because I feel it adds a lot of character with the old style cameras, I also feel like they have a significant tie to things like horror, thrillers etc and feel like it would be fitting for the tone and mood.
