Flywheel energy storage (FES) works by
accelerating a rotor (flywheel)to a very high
speed and maintaining the energy in the
system as rotational energy.
During extraction, principle of conservation
of energy is being followed.
It is designed in which the flywheel device
saves and release energy when necessary.

compact rotor in a low-friction environment.
• Rotors made of high strength carbon fiber
filaments, and spinning at speeds from 20,000 to

• Current flywheels have low specific energy. There
are safety concerns associated with flywheels due
to their high speed rotor and the possibility of it
breaking loose & releasing all of it's energy in an
