Why is PDHPE Important in Primary Education?

  1. Learning in PDHPE K-6 The syllabus aims to develop each students knowledge and understanding, skills and values and attitudes needed to lead a healthy, active and fulfilling life. This syllabus also helps students adopt the role of a responsible and productive individual in society. The syllabus covers skills, strands and subject matter to facilitate this.
  2. Rationale Encourages Physical, Social, Cognitive and Emotional growth and development. Promotes physical activity. Living and learning in a Safe Secure Environment. Encourages development of Fundamental Movements and Coordinated Actions of the Body. Development of Skills that Enable Action for better Health and Movement outcomes.
  3. Making Healthy Lifestyle Choices and Living an Active Lifestyle Understanding the importance of a balanced lifestyle incorporating regular physical activity for fitness and health. Improved quality of life. Learning to work in teams by playing fair and including everyone. Making healthy food choices.
  4. Development and Maintenance of Positive Interpersonal Relationships Encourages understanding, valuing and respect of self and others. Raises concern for the welfare, rights and dignity of all people. Develops understanding of social inclusion. Develops awareness into disadvantages/challenges diverse groups of people have and actions for their amends.
  5. Informed Decision Making leading to Effective and Responsible Action Factors that influence personal health choices. Making appropriate decisions. Commitment to adopting comprehensive community values. Development of strategies to guide behaviour in varying real-life situations. Increases knowledge of options available to them and predict likely consequences.
