3. Endometriosis
 Endometriosis is abnormal growth of
endometrium outside the uterine cavity.
 We can also describr it as ectopic endometrium
means endometrium but at abnormal site.

5. Causes
The main theories for the formation of ectopic
endometrium are retrograde menstruation,
müllerianosis, coelomic metaplasia and
transplantation etc.
 Mainly due to the harmonal imbalance.

6. Common sites of Endometriosis
 In culde-sac
 At ovary
 Uterosacral ligaments
 Sigmoid colon
 Broad ligament

7. Less common sites of Endometriosis
 Crvix
 Round ligament
 Bladder and ureters
 Appendix
 Laprotomy scar
 Large intestine
 Small intestine

8. Symptoms of endometrioisis
 Pain
 Pain with bowel movements
 Pain in urination
 Painful defecation
 Menstrual disturbance
 Infertility
 Dysmnorrhea progressivly

9. Signs of endometriosis
 Enlargement of ovaries
 Fixed reteroversion of uterus
 Tender nodules

10. Sonographicaly
 Abnormaly placed endometrium is complex to
visualized by sonography.

 rounded mass
 homogenous internal echos
 increased through transmission

14.  Endometrioma can be appear multiloculated in
complex conditions.

16.  Endometriosi may be cystic and solid, Solid
masses are due to multiple bleeding
 Endometriomas may be multiple rather than
only one
 Rule more irregular margins more chances of
endometrioma

18. Treatment
 Harmonal therapy is temporarely effective in
controlling abnormal growth but removal by
surgery is more effective

 Growth of endometrium at abnormal place
 Mainly due to harmonal imbalance
 Sites of abnormal endometrial growth
 Sonographicaly
rounded , homogeneous , through transmission
