NoRedInk Lesson Ideas

  1. 1. NoRedInk Lesson Plan Ideas
  2. 2. Idea #1 • Create practice assignments to help your students master a skill such as MLA citation for high schoolers or capitalization for students K-2. Have them work on these assignments at home, and test their skills using the “Quiz” assignment at the beginning of the next class. • Note: Number of questions for practice assignments will vary per student!
  3. 3. Idea #2 •Conduct a mini-lesson on a skill with the whole class and answer some example “Practice” questions together. Then, have students work independently in class on a “Practice” assignments.
  4. 4. Idea #3 • Create a “NoRedInk” station as part of a rotating station activity on writing. Have students in small groups travel to stations including one on peer-to-peer feedback, one on workshopping writing with the instructor, one on workshopping writing without the instructor, and a NoRedInk station to have students complete “Practice” assignments on the skills they need to work on.
  5. 5. Idea #4 • Use the NoRedInk essay companion (available here) as part of your writing workshop. Write the corresponding number next to the grammar error and have students complete “Practice” assignments as a review of the skill. Allow students to revise and resubmit essays.
  6. 6. Idea #5 • To assess student performance long-term, assign a “Planning Diagnostic” assignment at the beginning of the year or marking period. Choose 4-6 categories of skills you think you may want to work on throughout the year.
  7. 7. Idea #6 • Use “Unit Diagnostic” and “Growth Quizzes” to assess your students before and after studying a unit. Unit diagnostics are pre-assessments that look like quizzes, and growth quizzes will test the same concepts but with different questions.
