Job Purpose: The post‐holder is responsible for providing Director‐level
oversight and co‐ordination of all Finance & Resources‐related
operational services in accordance with the goals and objectives
of the organization and adhering to best practice in terms of
financial compliance, legal, and governance requirements.
The post‐holder will play a key role in the strategic development
of relevant resources and service departments, with particular
responsibility for strategic planning and good management,
compliance and controls, operational planning, and risk
management around the Inn’s finances, other assets, and
resources, as well as measures for safe‐guarding the Inn’s tax
status.

Key Responsibilities
STRATEGY
1. Overall control of the Inn’s Finance & Resources functions, leading teams
across four service areas: Finance, Archive, IT, and Library.
2. As a member of the Executive Management Team, playing a key role in the
formulation of future strategic business plans and annual operational
objectives and, in particular, providing the financial and resources framework
for that exercise.
3. Formulating financial targets and budgets in support of the Inn’s strategic
direction with the Under Treasurer and Chair of the Finance & Resources
Committee and taking the lead in formulating the Inn’s rolling five‐year
financial plans;
4. Providing Director‐level oversight of managers in the relevant resource areas
in relation to the development, management, and delivery of services in those
areas. Responsibility for the integration of resource‐area strategies into an
overall Finance & Resources strategy for the Inn.
FINANCE
5. Managing the Inn’s and the Trust Funds’ investment portfolios, working with
the Investment Sub‐committee and its professional advisers in the pursuit of
strategic objectives.
6. Overseeing the development of high‐quality financial reports for strategic and
business planning purposes; managing the production of accurate and timely
financial information to the highest professional standards both internally
(management accounts and forecasts) and externally (statutory accounts).
7. Leading the development, implementation, and operation of a risk
management framework across the Inn; management of the Inn’s asset
register, risk register, and support to the development and maintenance of a
business continuity plan; and ensuring that effective controls operate around

the Inn’s financial transactions and accounting matters, including oversight of
robust financial planning, compliance, good governance, audit, and internal
controls.
8. Managing the Inn’s policies and approaches in regard to capital requirements,
debt, and taxation, paying particular attention to safe‐guard the existing tax
arrangements with HMRC.
9. Acting as the Inn’s executive point of contact with Middle Temple’s external
auditors, investment managers, and pension scheme consultants.
10. Ensuring that the regulatory requirements of all relevant statutory bodies are
met regarding the Inn’s financial affairs.
11. Development of plans and supporting training to promote a cost‐conscious
organizational culture focused on the Inn’s core purposes and value for
money.
GOVERNANCE
12. Providing executive‐level representation of Finance & Resources at the Inn’s
Executive Committee; advising on and preparing papers in relation to agenda
items within this remit.
13. Ensuring high quality management and administration of the various
committees for which the post holder is responsible, currently: ‐
