™ Goals are stated simply and with expected outcomes.
™ State exactly what you will do.
™ Be clear about what it is you are wanting to achieve.
™ Answer the “W” Questions:
–  Who is involved?
–  What specifically do I want to
accomplish?
–  Why do I want to accomplish
this goal?
–
™ I will enjoy financial success and earn an additional $60K
in new business within the next 6 months.
™ I will be more healthy and honor my body as a temple by
achieving my goal weight of XX lbs in 3 months.
™ I will strengthen my relationship with my partner with
more quality time together each week.
–™ Effective goals have measures and milestones to
indicate you have achieved them.
™ Think “From and To.”
™ A measurement gives feedback and lets you know
when the goal is complete.
™ Goals that contain specific numbers and dates keep
you on track and provide a way to measure success.
–
™ I will meet with 5 additional prospects each week and
secure $10K in sales per month.
™ I will go to the gym 5 days per week for 1 hour minimum.
™ I will take my partner on a fun weekly date.
–
™  Agreed or Attainable Goals are Achievable Goals.
™  Set goals that are agreed upon and accepted by those
responsible for achieving it.
™  Set high, yet reachable, goals for excitement and
challenge.
–™ My 5 team members agreed to meet with one additional
prospect each week. This is attainable!
™ I agree to go to the gym Monday-Friday from 5-6am.
™ My partner, Dwayne, agreed to go on a fun weekly date
with me and to share the responsibility of planning.

™  The goal must be realistic, meaningful and relevant for you.
™  What is the reason you are striving for this goal?
™  The goal must be challenging and yet attainable.
This is important to stay motivated.
™  Goals should have outcomes that are realistic given your
current situation, resources, and available time.

™ NOT Realistic: I will make $1M this year.
™ Realistic: I will make $20K more this year.
™ NOT Realistic: I will lose 10 lbs. per week.
™ Realistic: I will lose 2 lbs. per week.

™  Set a date for when you will achieve each of your goals.
™  Include start points, end points, fixed durations.
™  Timeframe must be aggressive yet realistic.
™  Time periods for achievements and milestones must be
clearly stated.
™  Breakdown bigger goals into smaller goals and assign dates
for each step or milestone.
–
™ I will make an additional $20K by September 1st.
™ I will achieving my goal weight by December 31st.
™ I will start my weekly sweetheart dates this Saturday and
continue weekly for 3 complete months.
™ I will be debt-free by January 1, 2017.

What are goal based ethics?
™  A goal is the sum of many actions to accomplish one overall thing.
™  Do the actions we are taking to achieve this overall goal justify the
end result or our goal?
™  Ethically are we doing what is best for all involved and not just
whatever it takes to reach that goal.
™  Are our actions ethical?
™  Does the end justify the means?

Let’s say your goal is to make partner in your law firm.
Your Ethical Goals may include:
™  Getting to work early and staying late.
™  Doing research on a high profile case.
™  Taking additional college courses to amp up my résumé.
Unethical Goals:
™  Exposing a co-worker for wrong doing (because they are
fighting for the same position)
™  Letting an attorney for the other side in on
some information that would make your
colleague look bad or lose a case.
–™  Record your Goals!
™  Commit to paper the goals you want to achieve.
™  Keep records or a journal to find out where you are.
™  Prioritize your goals. Order goals in terms of importance.
™  Break large goals into sub-goals. Breaking down large goals helps
make them more manageable.
™  Break sub-goals into tasks.
™  Schedule a set of specific tasks to do
that will help you achieve your goal.

™  Example of Goal: increase my compensation at work by $10K
this year.
™  Sub-Goals:
1.  Talk to my boss about taking on extra responsibility
2.  Increase my sales by 5%
3.  Take advantage of overtime opportunities
™  Sub-Goal 1. Talk to Boss Tasks:
–  Monday: Make a list of things I am qualified to do, need to do
and can be added to my responsibilities
–  Tuesday: Set meeting with boss
–  Wednesday: Plan agenda for meeting with boss. Practice talking
points.

  • 16. –™ Stellar goals are SPECIFIC, crystal clear, well defined. ™ Goals are stated simply and with expected outcomes. ™ State exactly what you will do. ™ Be clear about what it is you are wanting to achieve. ™ Answer the “W” Questions: –  Who is involved? –  What specifically do I want to accomplish? –  Why do I want to accomplish this goal?
  • 17. – ™ I will enjoy financial success and earn an additional $60K in new business within the next 6 months. ™ I will be more healthy and honor my body as a temple by achieving my goal weight of XX lbs in 3 months. ™ I will strengthen my relationship with my partner with more quality time together each week.
  • 18. –™ Effective goals have measures and milestones to indicate you have achieved them. ™ Think “From and To.” ™ A measurement gives feedback and lets you know when the goal is complete. ™ Goals that contain specific numbers and dates keep you on track and provide a way to measure success.
  • 19. – ™ I will meet with 5 additional prospects each week and secure $10K in sales per month. ™ I will go to the gym 5 days per week for 1 hour minimum. ™ I will take my partner on a fun weekly date.
  • 20. – ™  Agreed or Attainable Goals are Achievable Goals. ™  Set goals that are agreed upon and accepted by those responsible for achieving it. ™  Set high, yet reachable, goals for excitement and challenge.
  • 21. –™ My 5 team members agreed to meet with one additional prospect each week. This is attainable! ™ I agree to go to the gym Monday-Friday from 5-6am. ™ My partner, Dwayne, agreed to go on a fun weekly date with me and to share the responsibility of planning.
  • 22. – ™  The goal must be realistic, meaningful and relevant for you. ™  What is the reason you are striving for this goal? ™  The goal must be challenging and yet attainable. This is important to stay motivated. ™  Goals should have outcomes that are realistic given your current situation, resources, and available time.
  • 23. – ™ NOT Realistic: I will make $1M this year. ™ Realistic: I will make $20K more this year. ™ NOT Realistic: I will lose 10 lbs. per week. ™ Realistic: I will lose 2 lbs. per week.

  • 25. – ™  Set a date for when you will achieve each of your goals. ™  Include start points, end points, fixed durations. ™  Timeframe must be aggressive yet realistic. ™  Time periods for achievements and milestones must be clearly stated. ™  Breakdown bigger goals into smaller goals and assign dates for each step or milestone.
  • 26. – ™ I will make an additional $20K by September 1st. ™ I will achieving my goal weight by December 31st. ™ I will start my weekly sweetheart dates this Saturday and continue weekly for 3 complete months. ™ I will be debt-free by January 1, 2017.
  • 27. – What are goal based ethics? ™  A goal is the sum of many actions to accomplish one overall thing. ™  Do the actions we are taking to achieve this overall goal justify the end result or our goal? ™  Ethically are we doing what is best for all involved and not just whatever it takes to reach that goal. ™  Are our actions ethical? ™  Does the end justify the means?
  • 28. – Let’s say your goal is to make partner in your law firm. Your Ethical Goals may include: ™  Getting to work early and staying late. ™  Doing research on a high profile case. ™  Taking additional college courses to amp up my résumé. Unethical Goals: ™  Exposing a co-worker for wrong doing (because they are fighting for the same position) ™  Letting an attorney for the other side in on some information that would make your colleague look bad or lose a case.
  • 29. –™  Record your Goals! ™  Commit to paper the goals you want to achieve. ™  Keep records or a journal to find out where you are. ™  Prioritize your goals. Order goals in terms of importance. ™  Break large goals into sub-goals. Breaking down large goals helps make them more manageable. ™  Break sub-goals into tasks. ™  Schedule a set of specific tasks to do that will help you achieve your goal.

  • 31. – ™  Example of Goal: increase my compensation at work by $10K this year. ™  Sub-Goals: 1.  Talk to my boss about taking on extra responsibility 2.  Increase my sales by 5% 3.  Take advantage of overtime opportunities ™  Sub-Goal 1. Talk to Boss Tasks: –  Monday: Make a list of things I am qualified to do, need to do and can be added to my responsibilities –  Tuesday: Set meeting with boss –  Wednesday: Plan agenda for meeting with boss. Practice talking points.
