This slide is made about the introduction of semiconductor. The primary idea about semiconductor will come to the reader by reading this slide. About semiconductor, the types of semiconductor that is written in my slide.
2. Definition of Semiconductor
There are a few substances with specific resistance in between insulator and
conductor the substances are called the semiconductor.
Or
The substances whose valence band is almost full and the conduction band is
empty and forbidden energy gap is small (less than 1.1 eV) are called the
semiconductor.
Examples: Silicon, Germanium.
4. Types of Semiconductor
1.Intrinsic Semiconductor.
A semiconductor is an extremely pure is known as intrinsic semiconductor.
2. Extrinsic Semiconductor.
A semiconductor which is doped by some impurity element that is called
extrinsic semiconductor.
**The process of adding impurities is called doping.
5. Types of Extrinsic Semiconductor.
Depending upon the types adding impurities to a semiconductor extrinsic
semiconductor are classified in to two types.
1. n – type semiconductor.
2. p – type semiconductor.
6. n- type semiconductor
When a small amount of pentavalent impurity is added to a pure
semiconductor is called n – type semiconductor.
9. p – n junction
When a p – type semiconductor and n – type semiconductor joined
together the contact surface is called p – n junction.
10. Forward Biased
In a p – n junction when positive sight is attached with p – type
semiconductor and negative sight is attached with n – type semiconductor is
called a forward biased.
11. Reverse Biased
In a p-n junction when positive sight is attached with n – type
semiconductor and negative sight is attached with p – type semiconductor
is called the reverse biased.
