Detect Fraud Successfully with GrabDefence! | Muqi Li, GrabHostedbyConfluent
Grab’s Trust, Identity and Safety team detects fraud by deploying data science, analytics, and engineering platform to search for anomalous and suspicious transactions, or by identifying high-risk individuals who are likely to commit fraud. The team builds tools for managing data feeds, creates SDK for engineering integration, and builds rules engines and consoles for fraud detection. An example of fraudulent behavior could be that of an individual who pretends to be both the driver and passenger, and makes cashless payments to get promotions.
Recently, the team launched GrabDefence as a SaaS service to start helping external clients in Southeast Asia to combat fraud in their business. Billions of fraud and safety detections are performed daily as there are millions of transactions happening every day and thus storing and querying the data of a database in real-time is not feasible. So come listen to us how we use Apache Kafka to detect fraud successfully!

Observability Concepts EVERY Developer Should Know -- DeveloperWeek Europe.pdfPaige Cruz
Monitoring and observability aren’t traditionally found in software curriculums and many of us cobble this knowledge together from whatever vendor or ecosystem we were first introduced to and whatever is a part of your current company’s observability stack.
While the dev and ops silo continues to crumble….many organizations still relegate monitoring & observability as the purview of ops, infra and SRE teams. This is a mistake - achieving a highly observable system requires collaboration up and down the stack.
I, a former op, would like to extend an invitation to all application developers to join the observability party will share these foundational concepts to build on:

The modern software delivery process (or the CI/CD process) includes many tools, distributed teams, open-source code, and cloud platforms. Constant focus on speed to release software to market, along with the traditional slow and manual security checks has caused gaps in continuous security as an important piece in the software supply chain. Today organizations feel more susceptible to external and internal cyber threats due to the vast attack surface in their applications supply chain and the lack of end-to-end governance and risk management.
The software team must secure its software delivery process to avoid vulnerability and security breaches. This needs to be achieved with existing tool chains and without extensive rework of the delivery processes. This talk will present strategies and techniques for providing visibility into the true risk of the existing vulnerabilities, preventing the introduction of security issues in the software, resolving vulnerabilities in production environments quickly, and capturing the deployment bill of materials (DBOM).

Climate Impact of Software Testing at Nordic Testing DaysKari Kakkonen
My slides at Nordic Testing Days 6.6.2024
Climate impact / sustainability of software testing discussed on the talk. ICT and testing must carry their part of global responsibility to help with the climat warming. We can minimize the carbon footprint but we can also have a carbon handprint, a positive impact on the climate. Quality characteristics can be added with sustainability, and then measured continuously. Test environments can be used less, and in smaller scale and on demand. Test techniques can be used in optimizing or minimizing number of tests. Test automation can be used to speed up testing.

is built to cater to demanding use-cases. It’s a complete,
scalable, reliable and lightning fast backend for realtime
apps - as a fully managed PaaS
4. realtime web is enabling humans and machines to interact in ways never seen before
deepstreamHub is a cloud-platform that enables developers to
build a new generation of realtime apps – applications that
synchronize data within milliseconds of it becoming available.
Catering for use cases from news websites, messaging and
collaboration apps to financial trading, multiplayer gaming and
the industrial IoT, deepstreamHub offers a realtime datastore
that synchronizes updates between browsers, mobile apps and
backend processes faster than the user’s screen can refresh.
Supported by features like publish-subscribe messaging,
request-response workflows or live searches with streaming
result-sets it allows to create unique and interactive user-
experiences across devices.
5. realtime datastore
At the heart of deepstreamHub lies a powerful data-sync engine:
schemaless JSON documents called “records” can be manipulated
and observed by backend-processes or clients. Changes are persisted
and synced across all connected devices in milliseconds.
deepstreamHub’s core features
live queries
Live queries let you execute searches against dynamic realtime
collections. The result-set stays open and new matches will be
streamed to the client as entries match and unmatch the search
criteria.
6. and there’s more…
request response
RPCs (Remote Procedure Calls) allow you to combine classic request-
response workflows with deepstreamHub’s realtime concepts.
Processes can register as providers and clients can issue requests to
them. The platform will smartly route and handle load balancing, fail
over and data-transport.
publish subscribe
deepstreamHub’s “events” provide an efficient way for many-to-many
communication. Clients and backend processes can subscribe to
topics and publish ephemeral messages carrying various types of
data.
