 Logan Lerman as Charlie Kelmeckis
 Emma Watson as Sam
 Ezra Miller as Patrick
 Mae Whitman as Mary Elizabeth
 Johnny Simmons as Brad
 Kate Walsh as Charlie's mother
 Dylan McDermott as Charlie's father
 Melanie Lynskey as Aunt Helen
 Nina Dobrev as Candace Kelmeckis
 Paul Rudd as Mr. Anderson
 Based on the novel written by Stephen
Chbosky, this is about 15-year-old Charlie
(Logan Lerman), an endearing and naive
outsider, coping with first love , the suicide of
his best friend, and his own mental illness
while struggling to find a group of people with
whom he belongs.
 The introvert freshman is taken under the
wings of two seniors, Sam (Emma Watson)
and Patrick (Ezra Miller), who welcome him
to the real world.
 The Samples– "Could It Be Another Change"
 Dexys Midnight Runners – "Come On Eileen"
 Galaxie 500 – "Tugboat"
 New Order – "Temptation"
 The Innocence Mission – "Evensong"
 The Smiths – "Asleep"
 Cracker – "Low"
 Sonic Youth – "Teen Age Riot"
 XTC – "Dear God"
 Cocteau Twins – "Pearly Dewdrops' Drops"
 Michael Brook – "Charlie's Last Letter"
 David Bowie – "Heroes"
 Charlie’s a little funnier, a little bolder, and wallows a
little less.
 Charlie’s family is present in the film, but is mostly
streamlined out of the plot for the sake of time and
narrative flow.
 We get to see Charlie’s teacher Bill’s classroom
dynamics.
 In the tunnel scene, Fleetwood Mac’s “Landslide” is
replaced with “Heroes” by David Bowie.
 There are more religious overtones than are present in
the book.
 This is most notable about this funny, touching,
memorable first novel from Stephen Chbosky is the
resounding accuracy with which the author captures the
voice of a boy teetering on the brink of adulthood.
 We learn about Charlie through the letters he writes to
someone of undisclosed name, age, and gender, a stylistic
technique that adds to the heart-wrenching earnestness
saturating this teen's story.
